This intersection is in the middle of nowhere, but I got pretty lucky and got a ride up to Yakima. There is good visibility and room to pull off. Most of the traffic is going west and south.
This spot is Ok. Pretty typical. With a bunch of Cartel activity in the area.Yakima is a pretty rough city, so if you're passing through and heading north, try to get dropped off here.
Obviously, try not to get dropped off here. There is a surprising amount of traffic coming off of 21. You'll get a ride at some point.The bridge on I-90 doesn't have a walkway, so you won't be able to walk back to Vantage if you do end up getting dropped here.
Hitching right off of the highway might be your best bet if you get dropped off at this ramp. The road is pretty fast here, but the shoulder is wide, and the visibility is good.
It was pretty late in the day but people were pretty reluctant to pick me up. One guy even pulled off onto the shoulder and tried to shoot rocks at me.
I ended up taking the city bus out to the truckstops out at Troutdale.
Portland seems like a bit of a mess. I'm glad I'm just passing through.
This spot is ok. There isn't a whole lot of traffic, but there is plenty of room to pull off. There is a good place to sit here. The other northbound ramp gets more traffic, but this ramp has better visibility, and a place to sit.
A few folks stopped, but they were pretty short rides. I got a few kick downs. Smokes and donuts. The ramp has a curb, but there is a wide shoulder on the highway. Although traffic is moving pretty quickly, and no one seemed to want to stop.
I left the spot because of construction. I agree, it seems like the other ramp in town may be better for both north and south bound traffic. Although if someone offers a ride out to Pleasant Valley (north), you could ask to get dropped off at the Manzanita rest stop, and try hitching from there. It's not far, but I wouldn't want to walk there.
This spot isn't bad. All the other north bound ramps in town were closed when I came through so there was plenty of traffic. There is a lot of room for traffic to pull off.
I got dropped off here by a Sheriff's deputy that was surprisingly nice. He even bought me lunch.
There wasn't as much traffic as I was expecting, but I was still able to get a ride in a reasonable amount of time.

Avoid getting dropped in Weed if you can. This town doesn't live up to it's namesake.
The locals aren't likely to offer a ride and most through traffic is going up hwy 97. You're still in for a long wait, but this ramp is slightly more likely to see through traffic than the other one.

The people here suck too. There wasn't as much hostility, but there were a bunch of hotrods that rolled past revving their engines. On top of that there isn't a lot of traffic on the ramp and most of it was teslas and BMWs.
It sounds like there is a bus that heads out to the town of woodland. That's probably your best bet heading north on I-5.

This exit is all Jersey barrier. There is a little bit of a "shoulder" but it doesn't offer any room to pull off. You may have luck at the nearby Petro truck stop, but if you're on foot don't bother coming out this far.
Apparently the cops don't even like you hitching from the ramps in Carson City *rolls eyes*.
I was prodded along after only 15 minutes. The ramp was admittedly, a little tricky but there was tons of room for traffic to pull off.
This isn't the perfect spot, but if you're stuck out here in Melissa, then it's probably your best bet. I find that the type of person that stops at Buccie's, isn't the type of person that stops for hitchhikers.
That said, people that live in Melissa are even less likely to stop for you. I got picked up by a California transplant, that does a lot of backpacking. He was a really cool guy. He was on his way out to Texoma lake to test out some new gear.
Hitching north out of DFW on US-75 is tough. This spot really isn't the greatest, but I got picked up surprisingly fast.
The issue is that there really isn't a good spot for vehicles to pull off. And well also, there is no transit in the area so it's a long walk to get to this spot.
The Costco near Parker rd. would probably be a better option. It's a substantialy shorter walk, and The truck entrance seems like it would offer a good place for vehicles to pull off.
This ramp has a few different truck stops to choose from. I hitched from the ramp here. I may have been better off to hitch off of the highway.

I was hitching Southbound, directly from the highway. There is a huge gravel pad for traffic to pull off. There is a truck stop (Petro) near by.
I got picked up by a big rig and got a ride all the way to Dallas, TX.
This area might be ok on a weekday, but when I was there, there was no traffic.
There is tons of room for vehicles to pull off, and a few restaurants near by. I was able to find wifi at the Denny's.
I walked here from Fife. It was well worth the walk.
There is a ton of room for cars to pull off. A retaining wall partially blocks the view for some of the oncoming traffic, but they still have plenty of time and room to stop. I got picked up really quickly by a guy that ended up buying a bus ticket for me to portland, so I'd call it a win.
This is a horrible spot. There's no place for cars to pull over and jersey barrier everywhere. It's seemed like a bad part of town. I passed broken crack pipes and spent 9mm brass on my way to this spot. I recommend avoiding the area.
Hitching east out of Creston sucks. 99% of the traffic you'll see is local. This spot isn't great but it's kind of your best option.
There is a set of lights to slow traffic down, and a parking lot for cars to pull off the road. Local traffic usually turns off at this intersection.
They are upgrading the highway in this area. Hitching west out of Salmon Arm is next to impossible at this point. After I gave up, I notced that there is a city bus that takes you to the top of the hill and it looks like there is a hitchable spot up there, but I haven't tried it.
There is a park and ride, just past the end of the on ramp. If you're hitching in the winter don't accept a ride to the ski hill unless you're going up there. In the past, I did and I spent the night in the middle of nowhere.
I think it was the second car that picked me up. Hitchhiking is generally viewed as a form of public transit in the area, and people are pretty friendly.
