Hitchhiker

The first person I asked was going to Erfurt and took me all the way to Bad Hersfeld. It was evening so there wasn't much traffic, maybe that's also why the traffic was more long distance. I think the deserted vibe of the gas station made people take pity on me which greatly helped me haha.

Yeah exactly what the other comment said. I walked 30mins to this spot from the highway and it was worth it. The next gas station was small but it is the last one in a long time so many people going towards Giessen stop there apparently.

Good stuff. Got picked up by two people who fed me the absolute best Syrian food. 10/10 would recommend.

There's not really space to stop which is a little dangerous. But you'll always find some brave people willing to block off the motorway for you :)

It's not fantastic, but it's fairly easy to stop and people go slowly. Many city people who aren't going long distances. But they smile and wave kindly. I wanted to go north and had A5 on my sign. In the 20 minutes I was standing there 4 people stopped who were all going south on the A5. In the end I took a ride just to get out of the city and onto a A5 highway entrance.

I was on my way to Oslo. I tried three different spots here. First I was standing at the exit of the gas station. There's very little traffic there. Then I walked a bit to right before the highway sign. There it's hard to stop for cars, cause they're going quite fast. Also, to get there you have to walk past a camera. I thought ah who cares it's just a camera. ... They care. I ended up camping in the woods next to the road there and for about half an hour there was like a surveillance drone circling above my tent. Probably because that camera spotted me or saw me cross the highway or something. Just don't go near there. The next day, I stood by the main road right in front of the entrance to the gas station. Asked for some cardboard at the gas station and made a big OSLO sign. The second car that came by stopped on the entrance lane and took me to Oslo.

First car stopped. Slow cars, plenty of space, kind people. It's a climbers paradise here, so many open-minded people.

People drive slowly, many tourists around here in summer. First car drove by, second one stopped but was only going 2km, third one took me all the way to Lom. This was all within two minutes in the early afternoon.

Cars come from around a corner, they still have time to see you and plenty of time to stop, but not ideal. There's a little fish shop though, you could ask the people who stop there.

Theoretically a fantastic spot- cars see you from far away, long bus lane to stop, they go a little slower because of the intersection. Still took a long time to get a ride. Anyway, there are raspberry bushes sooo.

Slow cars, space to stops, it's about 50/50 which way of the E16 the cars go. Mainly people from the town I think, so I'm not sure how good it is for long distances. Has a sign with E16 and an arrow to the north west.

Good spot for going to the E16. It's legal and there's space to stop, and you know that everyone driving there will take the E16. You can ask any driver going West to drop you off there. I got a ride to Hønefoss there. Didn't use a sign.

I was here on a summer Sunday around 7 in the morning and there was maybe one car every 5 minutes. I had a sign with Hønefoss and later with E16, but in the end I was lucky to get a ride to Sandvika. I feel like there should be more traffic at other times of the day though? Might be worth trying. And the gas station there gave me cardboard and has a free toilet :).

Was going to Copenhagen, had a sign with CPH. (KBH would have been smarter I think) Stood at the exit of the parking lot and got picked up quickly by a Finnish family on holiday. There's also free toilet here and maybe even free shower, I didn't check if it cost anything but it looked pretty free to me. On a Friday morning in summer there was lots of traffic, also Germans.

Favourite spot for leaving Holstebro going east. Many cars don't go so far, but it's easy to stop and you're very visible. If you want to travel far, I'd be critical with taking rides that go just to Herning, getting stuck in the north west side of Herning is kind of a pain in the ass. Same goes for Gølstrup where the hospital is, hard to get out of there.

Cars drive slow, countryside vibes with pretty much everyone going to Holstebro. I've never waited more than five minutes along this road.

I mean it's just a countryside road. I just walked it and stuck out my thumb when a car passed by. I feel like pretty much 100% of the cars would stop there.

I stood there trying to get towards Ulfborg/Ringkøbing. There's not really good space to stop, but there is some. On the ring around Holstebro people drive really fast, so I always try at one of the three bigger intersections. This one might be the hardest since it's so big and urban. Anyway, people are nice and they'll wave at you. One car applauded?

Good spot for going towards Holstebro. Plenty of space to stop at the bus stop. Multiple people stopped for me quickly. You're very visible and the drivers slow down at the traffic lights.

I got picked up by the first car that passed by, was going towards Herning. I was worried that there wouldn't be so much traffic, but I think most people from Give pass by there to go to the highway. Not so much space to stop, but that doesn't stop the Danes in my experience.

Many Danes on their shopping trips, saw a lot of campervans and I think especially in summer many Germans going on holiday to Scandinavia. The car wash station here gave me an energy drink. Got offered a ride to Vejle. Asking at the shopping mall parking lot would probably be faster but if you don't feel social this works.

The shoulder is definitely still there, good space to stand and plenty of space for cars to stop. Both for going towards Herning and towards Aarhus works. I don't think I've ever waited here more than 10 minutes. If you see the sticker with Change the System bottom up I put it there :P

Got a lift to Scandipark by the highway where many Danes shop. The spot seemed okay, easy to stop, but very urban. It's an actual hitchhikers bench! The idea of it got me very excited. Pedestrians will definitely look at you confused for actually using it. The bench has an option for putting up a sign with the direction you want to go, which is funny but I think it's broken. Anyway, if no people to Denmark pick you up, Scandipark is a very good second option :)

Lots of space to stop, cars driving slowly, but I think it's too deep in the city for many cars to stop. Many are probably going short distances. Lots of people looked at me weird. Eventually a trucker stopped for me and we had a great ride to Sarajevo.

I think I lucked out with finding a young Bosnian who has travelled and speaks English. He went out of his way to bring me to a good spot.

Lots of cars going by, for the gas station and the bakery. I might have gotten a ride quicker if I had asked around, but I wasn't feeling social. Got a ride from a truck all the way to Graz, Austria. There's a lot of space to stop, you're visible, and there's a truckers rest stop on the other side of the road.

All roads going to highway, slow drivers, easy to go north. Towards Sarajevo might be more difficult for cars to stop
