To Valga-Pärnu road's roundabout, barely any traffic and all of the cars are locals, moreover mostly headed to the bakery down the road, you'll probably end up walking to the roundabout and whilst it's not impossible to find someone to drop you off, it is highly unlikely, wait times of 60+ minutes expected
Towards Kilingi-Nõmme, not ideal but in my opinion the best bet to get out of Kõpu, here you'll catch all the locals and long distance drivers (locals from Soomaa use Tipu road), slightly uncomfy as there's a hill just before but due to low speeds there's enough time for cars to decide and stop, wait times of 15-30 minutes expected
Towards Kilingi-Nõmme, not the greatest bus stops in my idea, as it honestly is very small, would rather wait either by the start of Kõpu by the park or just at the end of the town, little traffic, visibility is great enough and speeds low, but unlikely to get a ride fast, wait times of 30-50 minutes expected
Towards Kilingi-Nõmme, small bus stop with okay visibility, high speeds, but due to it being just wide enough and just middle of nowhere enough you'll stop a car rather fast than later, locals more likely to give u a ride from here, wait times of 5-25 minutes expected
Slightly uncomfortable but surprisingly wide road immediately after the roundabout, great to stop small cars going towards Viljandi, safe enough and relatively fast, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected here
Alternative bus stop towards Viljandi, would use it if the other Märja bus stop has too many people in there, this here will do the job as well, just a tad bit more walking, barely any busses use this bus stop so that's a positive, decent visibility, okay speeds, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected
Towards Kliny/DE, low speeds, okay traffic, has street lights, however a bit awkward to stop cars, a lot of locals going to the next villages over are unlikely to stop for you, better to aim for tourists or the very rare German car you'd see, wait times of 20-50 minutes to be expected
Towards Litvinov, finally away enough from Teplice, to get more friendlier locals, side road with wide enough area for cars to comfortably stop, wait times of 10-15 minutes to be expected
Locals, tried to get to Duchcov but ended up walking, very unfriendly area for hitchers, even if it's just villages and smaller roads, loads of romas around here
Towards Most, looks to be ideal spot with good visibility, cars coming from petrol station etc, however besides middle fingers you will not get a car within couple of hours, in overall Teplice is not the easiest city to get rides from in any direction, loads of suspicious romas around here
Towards Müllrose, Frankfurt, okay spot in the town with slow speeds and has street lights which is great for nighttime hitching, however the traffic density is quite low and most cars are local, wait times of 40-80 minutes expected
Towards Beeskow, low traffic, and not great spot for a car to stop, there's just very small dirt side on the road, but it just does the job, would avoid at dark, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected
Great rest area towards north, decent amount of traffic, few trucks, wait times of 5-25 minutes expected, most cars are doing long distance, easy to find a ride to Berlin
After coming from the castle this here is about the only place you could perhaps hitch a car towards Radeburg, don't go any further as genuinely anything til the next village 3kms or so further is just awful for hitching, wait times of 20-60 minutes expected
Great bus stop towards Moritzburg, loads of locals and tourists, it's wide enough and great visibility, had many ride offers within 5 minutes before getting a car to Moritzburg, amazing road
Towards more inland into Germany, very low traffic, around a car in every 10 minutes, but that car is very likely to stop, especially if it's a german one and the least take you to the nearby other bigger villages that would have a store etc, wouldn't come around here any time late though, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards CZ, uncomfortable uphill awkward spot but does the work just enough space to stop a car by the side, decent traffic, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Low local traffic to either direction (Schmiedeberg or Altenberg), but locals are friendly and most likely one of the first few cars here will stop, doable even at night, village around here have pretty good street lights and low speeds, wait times of 20-40 minutes expected
Towards Dippoldiswalde, nice cobbled bus stop with a traffic light just before it so it's very convenient to stop cars that barely have any speed, not the best visibility and two lanes, but you'll get a car going further within 10-25 minutes
Amazing spot both towards LT or south in Poland, it's a huge truckers base and I will guarantee you will find someone willing to take you the either direction, it takes about 10 minutes for a long distance ride, definitely come here and ignore the Szypliszki hate, when you are fine with talking with the people
After roundabout trying to catch cars coming from Suwalki headed to north, great to get Polish going home but most Lithuanian cars are really full, at first declined local rides, but in all honesty, you should take the first car that takes you further up north, for a ride of 20kms or so you will get a car within 20 minutes, for a ride to Lithuania or further you will have to wait way longer
First, ask around the Shell and Mcdonalds for a ride towards LT, if it doesnt work out and you find noone, come here to find a local going north Suwalki and try there again, great for skipping the city, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected
Towards Orzysz, aim for the cars turning from Szymonka and you'll get yourself a ride to Orzysz, low traffic from the turns but better than gambling with the cars being on the main road, wait times of 20-30 minutes expected
Towards Orzysz. Woznice keeps on disappointing, even though it has okay amount of traffic and wide enough shoulder here to stop, noone even thinks to do so, wiser to just walk to the Szymonka junction, wait times of 80+ minutes guaranteed
Again, really fast ride towards further east, Mikolajki is the only town around here and locals from villages come here to shop etc, wait times of 5 minutes
The road from Ukta to Mikolajki is a real headache, walked all the way and even further into the forest, before actually got a car stopping, but genuinely the traffic is dead on this road, only locals that speed and usually ignore you, would rather recommend going towards Mragowo and then head to Mikolajki, wait times of 50-80 minutes expected, good luck
Bus stop towards Ruciane-Nida, low traffic, bus stop itself is decently wide, slow speeds as 50km/h area, but it's not as attractive for cars to stop here, wait times of 30-50 minutes expected
Probably my favourite MOP on the Via Baltica, loads of traffic, no matter the time and by now most "localish" rides have already gotten off the highway, wait times of 5-15 minutes to be expected if you are fine with smaller distances and around 40-60 minutes if you want to get a longer one, has loads of space and great street lights too
Pretty good spot for going further on S8, however isn't as conventional as most MOPs. Okay amount of truckers but mostly this one here is used for longer night stops so no pausers, best bet is either thumb or use sign by the bus stop just after the bridge, it's pretty wide and that way you can get both cars coming from mcdonalds and cars coming from petrol station, wait times of 20-40 minutes expected
Last huge MOP before Warszawa, if your driver is headed towards southern or central areas of Warszawa or headed east/west of Warszawa. Good to get a lift through Warszawa, may get a huge long distance driver here, wait times of 5-30 minutes expected, definitely rather come here than go to Warszawa
Towards Poznan/Warszawa, great MOP, loads of trucks going long distances, loads of smaller cars too, wait at the end with a sign or thumb after asking the truckers, wait times of 5-30 minutes expected which will bag yourself a long ride
Unpopular opinion, as it looks more people prefer the petrol station a bit earlier, but I would personally always use this spot here, loads of cars, and enough space to pull over, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected, it is indeed sort of illegal, but even when police passes by, they dont care, also possible to get huge long distance rides
I also find this petrol station amazing, been twice, found both times a car to Poland, with last time the first car being asked going all the way to south of Warszawa. Great petrol station definitely, wait times of 5-25 minutes expected to find a ride the least to Polish border
Towards Kaunas, loads of truckers in the petrol station to ask around, a lot of truckers use this for the night and longer stops tho, if you don't find one going fast enough in the petrol station, you can try your luck and get a personal car from highway, however it is very uncomfortable for cars to stop (still managed to stop a car with a trailer), wait times of 10-40 minutes expected
Towards Kaunas, uncomfortable spot, but doable, cars on highway are less likely to stop, so best bet is to aim for local cars joining the highway, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected
Towards Paobelys, no luck around here tho, didn't get a car anywhere along the road, quite uncomfortable for cars to stop also and the bridge in Kedainiai being under construction at 2026, doesn't make life easier, would probably give it better chance after the bridge is up again, for now avoid
A great spot going further south, ask for a driver to let out you on the highway shoulder if they are going to Vilnius and you are headed towards Kaunas, good visibility and okay speeds, wait times of 5-15 minutes
Ask around from the truckers stopping here to take you further, if you get lucky you can find a direct ride to Estonia, all of the lorries here go distance, but you have to be lucky in timing because this parking next to the petrol station only can have about 2-3 trucks at once stopping.

Towards well Adaži, thought I'd try this bus stop/driveway for once for the honor of the Baltezers cyclist, however it does not work really and if you are here, agree with any car that goes further, even if it's just to Adaži, you'll be stuck here otherwise, wait times of 30-100 minutes expected
Towards north, sort of Latvian middle of nowhere magic applies to this spot also, uncomfortable for cars to stop, but you'll still get a car within 15 minutes
Added this here too, since the other spot I had was only for the traffic coming from southbound, don't get the other negative review, as both a bit further south or here, I have always caught a car relatively fast, the most I have ever waited here was 25 minutes, more likely to get a car within 5-15 minutes, just use common sense and dont even think about stopping lorries
Towards LT, been here quite some times, always conflicting, this spot is ideal for long distance cars, but you have to get here in the first half of the day when those cars come by, in the evening or in the dark it really is long long wait, if you even get a car. The spot itself is great, huge roadside where you can stop anything, also behind top! there are few lorries parked for the nights, but most of the companies are at the most going to southern Lithuania. If you get here early you'll get a ride within 5-10 minutes, if you come here in the evening expect 60+ minutes of waiting
Towards Bauska, not really a great spot, and you'd normally go further up the road, but when it's going to get dark, you'll have to stay here due to this here being the last area with street lights (which is the only reason I'll give it 3 stars), very uncomfortable for cars to stop here, most of the petrol station cars will head back to Iecava, you can ask around in the station, in the end the best bet is to get a local feeling sorry for you, wait times of 50-70 minutes to be expected, not impossible but will take a lot of time
Towards Jelgava, there's a small bus stop, but due to the cars turning and great visibility, you'll catch a car even at dark within 20 minutes, loads of cars go half or all the way to Jelgava
Towards Iecava, middle of nowhere magic, wide road, amazing visibility and due to average speed cameras, cars are likely to stop to be able to drive faster afterwards. Definitely avoid at night tho, you'd get stuck here, but during the daytime, wait times of on average 5 minutes are literally to be expected
2026 spring update, amazing spot right now, road works have taken down the speeds, instead of two lanes there's only one very slow, due to the redirections of bus lines (no people besides you) and huge bus stop, its amazingly comfortable for cars to stop here, which means for the time the roadworks are in affect (most likely til the end of the year or til next spring) you will have a literal cheatcode to get out of Riga to Kekava, wait times 5-15 minutes expected right now, good luck and use it while you can!
Instead of being on highway or using very uncomfortable Circle K spot, just walk here from Adaži and here in this 50km/h area with huge safe shoulder for cars to stop and loads of traffic which most of is going to Riga, where you most likely would want to go, you'll get a car within 5-15 minutes to Riga, doable all year long any time
Towards Adaži, if u get lucky you can catch a car going to Riga too, quite some traffic, but speeds are high and not the greatest side of the road to stop a car, avoid at dark, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected
Towards Tartu, amazing spot, probably won't catch a car coming from Saula, however now most cars head quite a distance on the highway and due to great visibility and the obscurity of this spot, you'll get a car within 5-10 minutes going long distance
Towards Aruvalla or Jägala, okay amount of cars, speeds are still slow and here you can catch cars coming from either direction from Vaida, wouldnt try around here during the dark, but otherwise great spot, wait times of couple minutes up to 15 minutes expected mainly due to the lack of cars
Towards Vaida, pros of this road and spot is that 100% of the cars taking this road will go to the least to Vaida, its low speeds and lovely road, however it barely gets any traffic as most of the cars that take the Patika exit on highway go to the Golf's road. Still due to the road being so clearly understandable and no other roads til Vaida, everyone knows where you are going and locals are friendly so therefore most likely first car will stop for you, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Towards Patika, Vaida, local smaller road, but decent enough traffic to hitch quite succesfully, 50 km/h and good visibility, okay roadside for stopping, nothing spectacular, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Patika, Vaida, small local road next to the highway, decent amount of traffic, you can hitch anywhere alongside the road in Jüri, just the further you go the less Jüri cars and more cars going to the further villages, would avoid at dark, wait times of 5-20 minutes
Wide roadside, basically a gamblers spot as you can catch a car coing towards Lasnamäe, Maardu or to the Tallinn roundabout direction- Narva/Tartu/Pärnu, or even to Muuga (less likely due to the next turn being of the cars for that). Would recommend taking any car that takes you further. Seems like a spot where noone would stop and you will have loads of cars go by you, but never say never, as somehow I have managed to get always a car here before the rarely seen busses, if you feel lucky, definitely try this here, just make sure to be not too close to the bus stops as there's almost always someone waiting for a bus, ruining your chances of getting a car, wait times of 5-30 minutes expected
To Tallinn, aim for the cars coming from Jüri, basically everyone that uses Viadukti road heads at the least to Mõigu, where you can catch the Tallinn's city bus, though most cars head even further in to the city. Loads of traffic, and small but good enough space to stop a car, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Roadside towards Puurmani, not the most of the space, but due to low traffic on the road you can stop a car or a lorry anywhere along the road, in Koogi the speeds are a bit lower, i believe 70km/h so a bit better, possible to get long distance cars, avoid this road at dark, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Puurmani, very low traffic, but locals are friendly, you can hitch basically anywhere along the road, walk along the road, wouldn't recommend being here very late or very early, otherwise good road with chance of getting cars or lorries going all the way to Tallinn for example, due to factories around Tabivere, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Towards Pärnu, great spot, good visibility in 50 km/h area, wouldnt go any closer to the junction tho, uncomfortable bollards further up, low traffic, but those who drive here are most likely long distance drivers, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Towards Vatla, amazing spot, all the cars have to turn from the main road and therefore barely have any speed, mainly locals, wait times of 5-10 minutes expected
For 2026 update, less trucks as it used to be, but there's still quite some of them, almost all of them will be going to Russia, usually to Zilupe border so try to talk with the drivers and most likely they'll get you to Daugavpils or Rezekne ringroads or if u head further east (Ludza or Russia) you can go with them all the way
Towards Zarasai, loads of traffic but mostly locals, small bus stop and poorly plowed at winter, okay speeds but cars tend to speed and come in line due to traffic lights, wait times of 30-90 minutes expected
Towards Moletai/Utena, last great spot before the horrors of roadworks that the road currently has (probably will be better in a years time or so) meanwhile here you have a decent speeding lane, great visibility and loads of traffic, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected
Towards Karvys/Pikeliškes, very wide shoulder, okay amount of traffic, low speeds and everythings fine besides the fact that its mostly locals, going to the nearby villages, nevertheless wait times of 10-20 minutes will be expected
Towards Naujoji Akmene, low traffic, high speeds and poorly maintained road, best bet is to get someone from Vegeriai, wait times of 20-60 minutes expected, during the winter very poorly plowed also
Towards Valka, there's a bus stop here not marked on the map, but honestly it's not worth it, everyone speeds and it's kind of hidden behind the bollards so therefore just stay in Strenci or at least the other side of Staklupite river, wait times of 100+ minutes here
If headed to Strenci, this is a deadpoint in the road, most cars turn to Plani or Trikata, walk at least to Vijciems roads, here you'd wait 40+ minutes, very low traffic
Towards Strenci, nice long part of a road, you can also try in Brutuli, but there's cars turning from both sideroads as well, so you have to keep that in mind, wait times of 20-30 minutes expected
Towards Gulbene/Balvi, mostly long distance drivers past this point, wait times of 5-20 minutes, low traffic and will be able to stop only personal cars
Towards Gulbene/Balvi, nice little bus stop and lowered speeds, but lacks lights so therefore you can only hitch here during the day, wait times of 10-20 minutes, not too much traffic
Towards Lithuania, first somewhat okay spot, even though as there are loads of good places for cars to stop along the way from Auce, noone will cuz about 95% of the cars are locals headed to any of the border villages as well as this road being generally little used, try to aim for Lithuanian passenger cars, wait times of 30-50 minutes here, anywhere before probably 60+ minutes
Towards Auce, low traffic but great town for hitching, low speeds, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected, everyone heads to Auce here so you have guaranteed to get a car at least to there
Towards Auri, you can hitch anywhere in the city limits of Dobele as the road has wide enough shoulders for cars and the speeds are slow, good traffic, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected, enough light for hitching at dark as well
Great bus stop towards Saldus/Liepaja/Dobele, whilst you don't get all of the traffic it is very convenient for cars to stop, lower speeds and great street lights, loads of cars etc etc, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Saldus, Dobele etc, will disagree with previous comments, at least during the winter I would recommend using against the side of the road, poorly plowed, speeding cars and virtually nowhere to stop, also no street lights noticed, would expect here to be for more than a hour waiting for the golden ticket of car
Towards Kilingi-Nõmme/Pärnu, amazing spot, low speeds, good traffic, wide enough to fit a lorry if needed, almost everyone goes that direction so you don't need to worry about the roundabout, wait times of 5-10 minutes expected
The hitcher's deadpoint, even though almost everywhere else in Estonia a straight road on a rather decently driven road would mean easy stops, this place seems to be cursed, so far I have yet to meet a person who has been picked up on the Karksi straight including me, best bet is to walk til the curves come by in in couple of kms, best of luck
Most okayish spot around Karksi-Nuia, the town in general sucks for heading towards west towards Pärnu, no good place really, but after the valley there's a small entrance here and cars can stop here, wait times of 20-40 minutes expected
Towards Karksi-Nuia, decent traffic, and locals turning towards there will have 0 speed here so great for them, okay amount of wideness on turns, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected here
Towards Karksi-Nuia, good visibility and wide paved side but for some reason cars just dont stop here no matter what, would rather walk to the other Linna spot, wait times of 60+ minutes to be expected here
A bit of an uncomfy bus stop, not the best visibility and there's turning just after this so make sure the car stops goes the correct direction, still does the job and wait times should be no longer than 20 minutes
Towards Tõrva, local cars coming from Hummuli or Soe use this road, so low speeds before the turn and kinda okayish amount of cars, bus stop is wide, people friendly, wait times of 20-40 minutes expected mainly due to the lack of the cars, you can try to catch cars on main road also, but there's uncomfortable hill just before and high speeds with no real side of the road there
Towards Tartu, great visibility, very wide and long speeding ramp and loads of traffic, what else could you wish for? wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Tartu, only use during winter with loads of snow cuz the main Valga spot by then is covered by snow and for some reason they dont plow it well enough, however more towards the little river the sides are done wide and you can stop personal cars there way better, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected, low traffic as usual for Valga.
Towards Laiküla, rather poor spot, noone from Haeska turns towards east, okayish amount of cars, but generally due to it being on the end of a straight road before bends as well as the speeding lane being barely there, the spot is as good as any other place among the road, personally don't see any point in staying here but rather walking towards Martna cross, wait times of 30-80 minutes expected
Update: there are lights, however they turn them off way too early, also there have been improvements to the road, but still it's rather uncomfortable spot, much luck is needed here, revised wait times of 20-60 minutes expected
Towards Rakvere, ideal spot during the winter, as they plow it very wide due to the turning lorries, great visibility, during the summer also does the job, with a bit less room to play with, loads of traffic, wait times of 5-10 minutes expected, nowadays my go-to spot from leaving Jõhvi
Towards Jõhvi, decent amount of traffic, the spot itself is not the greatest, poorly plowed during the winter. There is a fish stall next to it, not used during winter but during the fishing season, cars stop here frequently, also the side of the road is very wide then, could chat with people by the stall buying fish or hitching by the side of the road, wait times of 20-80 minutes depending on the season.
Towards Pärnu, old runaway, during the summer perfect for stopping cars even as the speeds are rather high, during winter depends on the plowing, wait times of 20-40 minutes mostly due to the lack of cars
Towards Pärnu, little traffic, barely any, most cars are locals, speeds are low, but staying here or walking along the road doesnt matter much around here, wait times of 40-80 minutes expected
Towards Laiküla, Lihula-Risti highway, little traffic but most cars passing by are long distance ones, not the most comfortable and not the best visibility around here but you'll be picked up within 20 or so minutes
Towards Ahli or Pärnu road, low speeds due to turn, outside of ferry times has low but decent local traffic mainly to Ahli, possible long rides, wait times of 10-15 minutes expected
Barely used road coming from the side, but during the autumn/spring season you do get workers from forest or railroad fixers who use this small road, and if u happen to come by when they finish their shifts you are guaranteed to get a ride to either to Sillamäe or Narva as the speeds here are so slow, other than that I'd avoid this spot. Wait times of 40-60 minutes
Will disagree with the previous review, i find this to be the best spot near Rakvere towards east direction, the speed limit here is lowered to 70 and the speeding up lane just before the bus stop is rather wide enough. Would recommend being just before the bus stop and mainly aim for the cars coming from Rakvere, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Towards Muuga/Viimsi/Pirita, nice bus stop which truth be told isn't the largest but does the job, place has streetlights and due to it being basically in Tallinn would have 24/7 traffic, try to make sure the car stopping goes the direction you want, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected
Towards Aovere, but a lot of the cars taking this exit actually usually go quite some long distance (Mustvee/Jõhvi/Jõgeva/Tallinn etc). The turn itself isn't the best, not the most amount of room but you will be able to stop anything due to the low speeds, don't be hesitated about most cars staying on Tartu-Räpina highway, try to aim cars coming from Räpina direction - those are the long distance ones, wait times of 15-45 minutes expected
Towards Narva, people coming from datchas head almost certainly to Narva, good enough density of cars and friendly people which almost guarantees you a ride, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Very crappy dirtroad(!) with very low traffic, but people do visit their datchas at the end of the road and if you happen to walk back when they happen to drive by, since their speed is at around 20km/h it is almost guaranteed they would stop and pick you up so therefore you would have a guaranteed ride to either towards Sillamäe or towards Narva, wait times of 20-40 minutes
Towards Auvere, there is a wide shoulder here after turn where cars can easily stop, but the road doesn't get the most amount of traffic so you can also try to walk and thumb the cars, half of the traffic here is made by lorries as well which are unlikely to stop, that head to Auvere, wait times of 30-40 minutes expected
Towards Jõhvi, very good spot with long speeding up lane for the cars from Sillamäe, lots of traffic and 70km/h area, try to aim for the cars turning, has street lights, wait times of 5-10 minutes expected
Towards Narva, bus stop with decent size, cars go also in average motorway speeds, no cars from Toila turn here so concentrate on cars from highway, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected
Towards Tartu, great spot, low speeds due to roundabout, a lot of cars headed towards Tartu especially in the mornings, has street lights and the bus stop is huge, you can stop anything there, wait times of 5-30 minutes expected depending on the time of the day
Towards Tartu, quite uncomfy for the cars to stop but there's not much options around here, try to aim for those rare cars turning from Jõgeva, locals though usually go the other directions, good visibility and does have street lights as positives, wait times of 20-45 minutes expected
Towards Jõhvi, rather poor bus stop, pretty small and cars tend to speed on this straight part of the road, road itself has annoyingly little sides before the ditch so your best bet is to just get lucky, I would recommend staying a bit before the bus stop so people can see you hitch and then see the bus stop and go there, would recommend not coming to here, wait times of 30-70 minutes expected
Towards Jõhvi, not the most amount of space but speeds are low enough for cars to stop, can try both - cars on highway and cars turning, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Indeed a pretty good spot for going any of the directions past Aovere (Jõhvi/Kallaste), loads of traffic and good visibility, the bus stop is pretty wide also, place has street lights but during low traffic hours might take some time, wait times of 10-40 minutes expected
Towards Kõrveküla/Aovere, okay amount of traffic, has street lights and wide bus stop, a good way to skip Tartu and try to get a car further on the Jõhvi highway, wait times of 10-30 minutes
Towards Rõngu, not the ideal bus stop but 70km/h area and wide enough for cars to stop, as well as good visibility, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected
Convenient speeding up lane and bus stop for Tõrva direction, decent traffic, try to aim for the cars coming from Kuigatsi road, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Towards Rõngu/Valga, loads of traffic but due to the build of this road you have to hitch on the turning lane before the actual turn so you can't hitch local cars, but as a positive there is very good visibility for the cars that are already on the highway and as the lane is very long it's comfortable for them to stop, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Elva or Pangodi road or Kintsli road, most cars from Peedu go to Elva and if you can't be bothered to walk there you can just thumb the cars here, low speeds and people will understand you most likely just want to go to Elva, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Elva/Valga, during lower traffic hours, you can use this area where two lanes go into one, and the following old driveway which is now blocked off, wouldn't have much hope on rush hours here but otherwise wait times of 10-30 minutes expected
Towards Vastse-Kuuste, local traffic only headed towards there, you could also try hitching anywhere in Lootvina, this is the first area on the road where you'll actually have some traffic however still wouldnt expect a car faster than 20 minutes, realistic wait time of 20-40 minutes
Either direction this dirt road barely gets any traffic til Uniküla-Vastse-Kuuste road or til Tartu-Räpina highway , had a single car pass on this section and they turned away to the villages before, about a car maximum in a hour, unless you get extremely lucky be prepared to walk all the way towards your destination, wait times of 100+ minutes
Towards Haaslava/Roiu, decent amount of traffic, not the best place to stop as no wide shoulder, but cars coming from roundabout have low speeds, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Tartu, uncomfortable spot as its on the turn but cars on the highway don't speed as it still is 70km/h area or just about ended as well as some cars from Sangla would turn, with no speed, so all in all you'll get a car within 10-30 minutes, wouldn't recommend at night time
Big truck parking area with cafe, free toilets (for truckers but nobody really cares, use the doors with truck signs) and I was told there is a shower for truckers, so perfect spot for you to get freshened up before asking all the truckers for their destinations, more trucks towards south than north, would recommend asking around here early in the morning or in the evening, during the daytime probably not the best spot, but you will get a long distance ride for sure here
Truck parking for lorries headed towards Estonia, would recommend coming here early in the morning from Riga and talk with the drivers, other times probably not so great
Towards Biržai, ideal spot, loads of low speed cars all going to there the least, wait times of 5-10 minutes, you could even go Biržai-Germaniškis/Skaistkalne-Riga if you want to go around the via baltica
Towards the ring road and Strenci/Valka direction, good for dark times as this spot has great street lights, got offers for any of the Rujiena and Mazsalaca directions as well as cars going towards Valka but definitely lesser of them than the other two. Still the wait times are not so bad as people will understand you want to skip Valmiera, wait times of 20-40 minutes to be expected
Great towards Ragana or Inciems direction, loads of cars with not so high speeds, decent visibility as well as actual bus stop so good for cars to stop, wouldnt try during the dark tho, as didnt seem to have much street lights around here, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Would agree, awful spot, wouldn't even try this unless during some low traffic hours, got some locals pissed off rather soon here, would recommend a bus stop a bit further which is safer for both, you and the driver, but can see this spot working also
Towards Malpils/Sigulda, made the mistake (?) of walking from Suntaži, awful road as noone even seem to be willing to stop, okay amount of traffic, wait times of 60+ minutes to be expected anywhere along the road
Towards Glažškunis, fine bus stop, good visibility, loads of locals so don't expect a long distance ride, speeds are high but people willing to stop, wait times of 15-30 minutes expected
Towards Glažškunis, decent amount of traffic, around here city limits end so cars would speed up after that, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected, a lot of locals
Towards Kegums, dirtroad (!) so beware, as well as very crap internet around these forests, but some traffic from Vecumnieki take this shortcut road towards Kegums/Ogre etc, has more cars than you would imagine, but this road is definitely to be avoided during the dark, wait times of 20-40 minutes expected
Towards Kegums/Linde, beware dirtroad(!), but still gets a bit of traffic, wouldn't advise trying it, but you can get a ride within 20 minutes from Vecumnieki to further, would avoid anytime it is getting darker, but locals and others do take this shortcut road towards Kegums so you can get lucky
Indeed ideal spot for going basically anywhere towards Riga or major cities in Latvia, as well as even further south, wide enough bus stop to have a lorry stop, decent street lights for the darker times, okay amount of traffic, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected
Towards Haapsalu, you can try to hitch cars turning from Kooli tee, Hansuküla tee etc when you are walking towards the Linnamäe bus station spot , as most locals around here are very friendly as well as they would anyways head to Haapsalu, uncomfortable for cars to stop but the town has speeds of 50km/h all through it and not that much traffic so cars could end up stopping anywhere, wait times of 5-30 minutes
Towards Linnamäe/Haapsalu, very low traffic as well as most cars already on the Keila-Haapsalu road would speed, but there's some traffic turning from Risti road headed towards Linnamäe or Nõva which you should aim for, bus stop is okay, not the largest but will fit a lorry if needed, wait times of 20-50 minutes
Towards Viljandi, kinda okay spot, but has a bit annoying stone bollards before the bus stop that are rather annoying for drivers, not the best visibility as well as cars tend to speed through here, bus stop itself is very wide, try to aim for cars turning either from Tusti or from Uusna, wait times of 30-70 minutes expected
Towards Väimela/Võru, rather uncomfortable area as speeds are at 90km/h and there is no real spot around here to stop but due to just about the right amount of density of the traffic, cars are likely to stop, loads of locals going between Põlva and Võru, wait times of 10-25 minutes expected
Towards Värska or Võru, if you have a ride that only takes you to the trainstation area etc, you can try your luck at catching a car on the Põlva roundway, ask for Rosma, if the car is headed to other direction than you, as you would skip Põlva then, decent amount of traffic, a bit uncomfortable for drivers to stop, you can just walk along the road, beware a lot of cars turn to Põlva or to the factories so don't be hesitated by that, i'd only try this at daytime, wait times of 20-60 minutes expected
Towards Põlva, quite some traffic and due to the turn the speeds are very low, wouldnt recommend at dark but otherwise a very good spot, loads of locals take this road to Põlva, wait times of 5-20 minutes
Towards Rasina (but the same goes to Ahja direction also), barely any traffic, very little cars, you can just hitch anywhere along the road, you'll have a car pass you once in half a hour etc, wait times of 20-60 minutes
Towards Tartu, don't know why, since the spot looks ideal (low speeds, speeding up lane, as well as good visibility) but for some reason can't ever get cars here, my Estonian antirecord of wait times has been here, even has great street lights for the darker times, but seems like mission impossible, genuinely wait times are 100-250 minutes in here, would probably recommend going to Tartu through Ahja or Mooste road, good luck
Towards Rõngu/Valga, very good speeding up lane, loads of room and good visibility, would rather be here than in the bus stop, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Wide shoulder and two lanes with the latter being a speeding up lane, in theory should be ideal, but in reality noone wants to stop, the bus stop a bit further is way better, here you'd get 60+ minutes of waiting
This bus stop is doable for pretty much any direction going out from Viljandi; Holstre/Mustla; Karksi/Karksi-Nuia; Kilingi-Nõmme/Pärnu. Quite some long distance drivers try to avoid Viljandi and thus will go around it, so pretty good odds of getting a car longer distance, if you head towards Pärnu or Karksi, ask for Laidu tee and hitch from there if they go towards Holstre. Bus stop itself has pretty decent visibility, and wide enough, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Towards Puhja/Viljandi, been here in Märja bus stop quite some times, usually you'll get a rather local going car but there's quite some long distance drivers here as well. Bus stop itself is decent, large enough for cars to stop, you can get here with the bus nr 11(Õssu). Wait times of 10-30 minutes expected
Towards Puhja/Tartu, more likely to stop a car going to Tartu, an alternative and a good spot for my liking when it's already very dark outside, as Elva has very good street lighting, as well as cars go in slow speeds, before turning to the highway, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected, most cars here go to Tartu so ideal for that
Towards Elva/Tartu. Like said before, the spot itself is very small, just barely enough to have a car stop there, but due to just the right amount of traffic and very slow speeds, you will catch a car within 20 minutes, as well as it has good street lights for the dark
In theory both sides have good bus stops, and you should be able to get a car with decent traffic either towards Rõngu or Rannu, but I ended up staying here for 100+ minutes, before ending up walking to Rõngu, low speeds and good visibility, wide bus stops, yet noone stopped, at some point tried either direction wherever a car was coming from and nothing seemed to work, at darker times there's even good street lights, but that did not help, wait times of 100+ minutes to be expected, in general seems to be surprisingly hard road to hitch
Towards Rõngu, okayish amount of traffic, but this road really seems to be very hard to hitch, started walking from Rannu church and here I finally got a ride, mostly locals, wait times of 30-100 minutes expected, good luck
Very little traffic on this road, especially to Vallapalu/Rannu direction, ended up walking all the way to the main road, with just one car passing in a hour. Outside of the summer or weekends this road gets very little usage, will be all down to the luck but generally a road where if u don't move yourself might end up without a ride for the whole day, wait times of 100+ minutes
Towards Puhja/Viljandi, a very nice turning lane for cars coming from Rõhu as well as very good visibility for the cars already on the main road, a lot of space and good amount of traffic, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
The road between Ilmatsalu and Rõhu gets very little traffic, and most of it is agricultural lorries or gasoline trucks, which do not really pick you up. So your only bet is trying to catch some smaller cars, which there are very little of, it's one of these roads where u can hitch anywhere along the road no matter which direction you are headed, usually you'll end up walking quite some distance (hence why the marker's here) before someone stops, wait times of 40-80 minutes expected
Towards Ilmatsalu, good spot, comfortable enough to stop cars fast, loads of traffic turn away nearby but a ride to Ilmatsalu should be doable within 5-15 minutes
Very good spot towards Risti/Haapsalu/Tallinn. Not a lot of traffic and loads of cars turn the other directions, but the odds of a car picking you up here are pretty good, as well as loads of long distance cars, every time i have been here the driver has been going to Tallinn, which is very nice, as well as two good options on the way for Haapsalu, so all in all a really nice wide stop with good visibility, wait times of 5-25 minutes to be expected
Towards Keila/Tallinn, Madise, after the army camp, you can hitch just anywhere on the road, good odds of getting picked up by drivers and quite some long distance cars as well, friendly people, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Kloogaranna, you can use either the entrance of this road or the bus stop, both look good. Good visibility and not the highest of speeds around here, as well as more traffic than earlier parts of this road, wait times of 5-20 minutes
Towards Keila-Joa, pretty uncomfy spot, but due to the build of the road drivers slow down here and since you are basically in the middle of nowhere, they are more likely to help, very low traffic, wait times of 20-60 minutes expected, try to aim the cars to the Rannasüdame bus stop
Towards Keila-Joa, in theory perfect spot, wide bus stop, 50km/h, turns from either side, but in reality 75% of the traffic turns to Vääna-Jõesuu so almost noone continues driving further, as well as those that do, half of them go only as far as Naage, as I got an offer from a local lady to there, u might get lucky as the spot is amazing but wait times of 30-80 minutes are more realistic
Towards Vääna-Jõesuu, low to medium traffic, very uncomfy for both you and the drivers but a car did finally stop on this patch of the straight road, huge canals on the side of the road, generally pretty awful part of the road to hitch
Towards Vääna-Jõesuu, in theory should be a good spot, good visiblity, nice bus stop and even cars turning from Kolmiku road towards you but in reality noone really wants to stop here, nor the other direction (some local lad missed his bus and tried to hitch towards Tallinn and failed to do so also, during midday very low traffic also for such populated area, wait times of 50-80 minutes expected, I ended up walking to find a better spot (not really much of options coming for the next few kms)
Towards Muraste, I'd use this patch of sideroad as there's a really wide asphalted side on the road for the houses by the side of the road, which is very comfortable for drivers to stop to, as well as u have good view from cars coming from Tallinn direction, the bus stop a bit further up is frequented with local busses, has usually lots of people in them as well as foilage is skewing the view, this here is a rather ideal spot, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Perfect spot for going towards Tabasalu/Muraste/Vääna-Jõesuu etc, wide enough bus stop that is not used by the busses after a roundabout, what else to wish, wait times of 5-10 minutes expected
Towards Rõngu/Tartu, in theory a very good spot, good enough visiblity, cars coming from Võru road have nice ramp for them, bus stop with roof etc etc, however this part of the road is pretty desolated with very little traffic, furthermore, noone uses this turn to go towards Rõngu, as the traffic from sideroads literally always goes from Tõrva road to Võru road, speeds are high on the main road and wait times of 100+ minutes to be expected, i ended up walking towards Puka on the highway and about a kilometer in managed to stop a car on the highway, so might be worth a shot, good luck
Towards Abja-Paluoja/Karksi-Nuia/Valga. Low to medium traffic, but it's 70km/h area, I'd advise against hitching further west as the bus stop is in a rather bad spot and before that the 50km/h area is on the hill with curbs, so I'd walk over here where there is clear view, probably wont stop a lorry here, but loads of longer distance smaller cars, wait times of 5-15 minutes
Towards Ikla, awful spot, poor visibility, annoying guardrails, walls obscuring the view for both you and the drivers, everyone just speeds up immediately to beat the lorries etc, so wait times of 2+ hours to be expected, just take the bus nr 17 to get to the city and change to 14 or 40 to get to the end of the city
Towards Ikla/Kilingi-Nõmme, in idea the spot looks good, bus stop after the new highway turn, loads of cars in slow speeds, but in reality noone wants to stop here, wait times of over 1 hour definitely to be expected, also local drunks may be fooling around the Ülejõe Selver area. Alternative idea is the Scania service center just behind you, I did manage to find a lorry going a long distance in couple hours time, so might be worth the shot, as asking around there may be way better than just staying here.
Tested my luck trying to go around Pärnu, quite a long speeding up lane from the Maksimarket, good visibility and speeds are low, tho a loads of cars around here will just enter Pärnu, within 30 minutes someone will feel bad and stop for you, but the odds of that car going to Tallinn are small and for Ikla even smaller. Might be worth to have a sign, I would rather recommend taking the city busses
Towards Lihula, 70km/h area and decent enough visibility, I'd advise staying here rather than the bus stop which is awkwardly just after the hill, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected, low traffic
Small bus stop towards Latvian border, little traffic and the bus stop does get local busses, whose driver was nice enough to get me a bit closer to the border, generally doable, main factor is just little traffic and quite some lithuanian cars still go to the nearby villages, wait times of 10-40 minutes expected
Towards Zarasai, very good spot as after the roundabout there's huge shoulder, possible to stop a lorry, very low traffic though, so be prepared to wait a bit, wait times of 5-35 minutes expected
The roundabout seemed very awkward for me, so I walked to this bus stop, direction Ukmerge, got a car within a minute, I'd honestly rather be here than on the roundabout, nowadays there are very awkwardly placed guardrails all over the place and no real room for cars to stop
Towards Jonava, very low traffic, but first or second car will most likely stop, decent road, due to low traffic you can stop car anywhere, wait times of 5-30 minutes expected
Towards Vandžiogala, low traffic but high likelyhood to stop a car, anywhere around here will work, you can take the bus nr 23 to Domeikava and walk here, wide shoulders, wait time of 10-20 minutes expected
Towards Strenci, perfect spot, very wide shoulder, one of the first cars will stop, be aware of very low traffic though, always works for me, I'd recommend going to Strenci and then head to Valka if you are going to Estonia, wait times of 5-25 minutes
Towards Smiltene, the map is incorrect as they moved the bus stop further and put there a speed camera, so it's 50km/h and a speed camera, therefore high likelyhood of getting a car. Also the sideroads from either direction get cars going to Smiltene/Riga etc so good chance to stop them also, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected
During low traffic times of the day you can just stand by the exit to the road to get probably one of the first cars to stop towards Smiltene, wait times of 5-15 minutes
Towards Smiltene, perfect spot, low speeds, good visibility and loads of long distance cars, a bus stop with shelter from the rain and streetlights etc, ideal. When you see Tramprennen 2024 stickers you know you are at the right spot, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Litene/Gulbene/Aluksne. Amazing bus stop in city limits, after this there are roadworks (which take forever so you'll most likely still have them by the 26 so cars are even more willing to take a hitcher to avoid boredom, wait times of couple minutes to 10 minutes expected, can't get any better than that
In theory this is the best possible spot for hitching towards Balvi, but in reality almost noone drives there, most cars around here head to Vilaka, waited here for 100 minutes and then just started walking and about a kilometer later a car stopped. One of the main reasons for cars being unwilling to stop may be the tensions between Russians/Latvians as Latvians may fear you might be Russian and wiseversa. Also I was told by a local they have had issues with illegal borderhoppers earlier so people may be reluctant to take you, wait times of 100+ minutes expected, good luck
Towards Baltinava, medium to little traffic, best bet is to try to catch cars turning from Tilža road, good visibility, not suitable for the dark, wait times of 30-60 minutes expected
Towards Karsava/Ostrov(RUS), a very long and wide bus stop, however a lot of cars speed like crazy around here, not suitable for the dark, wait times of 20-50 minutes, not the highest amount of traffic
Towards Karsava/Ostrov(RUS), amazing spot, just after the roundabout. There's enough space to stop a car with no worries, decent amount of traffic, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Towards Rezekne, even though the sideroad seems to be used just by locals, the cars turning will most likely due to 0 speed just stop for you and take you further, so far the only good spot near Daugavpils, here you'd get a car within 30 minutes
First decent spot going towards Rezekne from Daugavpils, but still no luck, even if there is a speed camera, 50km/h zone and a very good bus stop for stopping, it just didnt work out, ended up going for the Mazie Stropi side road, where I got a direct ride immediately, hitching out from anywhere in Daugavpils is quite difficult, wait times of 60+ minutes to be expected for sure, good luck out here
Towards LV, Daugavpils, the border is amazing. Due to the current events most of the lorries are headed on A13 to one of the Russian border points, which means that every lorry gets inspected by the border guards. Due to that all the normal cars that do use this crossing drive super slow, get stuck behind manouvering lorries etc, therefore they have super good visibility on you when u stand on the border, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected, most likely first personal car with any space will give you a lift to Daugavpils the least
Towards Koluvere/ Risti-Virtsu highway. You can either stay in Laukna with lower speeds or walk a bit further outside to catch cars mostly going to Virtsu direction, low traffic, but most likely one of the first cars will pick you up, wait times of 5-30 minutes around here depending on traffic density
Towards Pärnu, loads of traffic, very good visibility, quite a wide bus stop with a shelter for the rain. Wait times of 20-60 minutes expected, but due to the high likelyhood of getting a long distance ride it's worth the wait, also with cars turning from Varbola, you'll most likely pick one of the first of them (usually they head to Märjamaa, where you can continue further south)
Towards Riisipere (or Pärnu highway), either way almost noone would stop here, your best shot is to walk to Haiba, and try from there if you head to Riisipere and go to the highway for Pärnu, here almost all of the cars drive just ca 2 kms to Haiba, people from Haiba, Riisipere etc use usually Pärnu highway exits to go either direction (Pärnu/Tallinn) so no point in staying here.
Towards Kernu, one of these roads with no point in staying in particular spot due to how little cars use this road, loads of truckers headed to the nearby quarry who can't stop. So your only shot is to catch some locals, which can be quite hard depending on the time of the day, wait times of 20-80 minutes expected
Bus stop towards Hageri/Kohila, it's inside the city limits so 50km/h, quite some traffic and wide bus stop, loads of people go just to Aespa, but you'll likely catch a car going to either direction within first 25 minutes.
Towards Kiisa, Kohila. There's a small driveway after the roundabout but it is rather uncomfy, not a lot of space, also the tree foilage is quite near the road. Lots of short distance drivers and people generally seem to not want to take you here cuz there's loads of busses around here. Wait times of 40-80 minutes expected, not suitable for the dark time
Towards Saku, there's a small pocket for cars to stop to, you can also just hitch next to the road, most cars here will go to Saku, perfect for going there, just right amount of traffic, speeds are 70km/h and good visibility, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
Towards Jõgeva, a little convenient bus stop, however the visibility is rather poor due to guardrails and road bends, speeds are fast and cars deem this bus stop too little to stop, in the end you can try your luck walking further towards Kaarepere and hitch on the way, here waiting time estimates at 40-80 minutes
Towards Lihula, Pärnu. During the ferry times (when cars come off from the Hiiumaa ferry), you can try to catch cars going to Pärnu direction on this road, as they all take the Valgevälja road to skip Haapsalu, during that time it is perfect, you can stand anywhere on the road, but outside of that the road has no real usage so quite useless outside of the "golden rush". Wait times of 5-minutes when ferry cars come, otherwise I'd recommend walking to the bus stop a bit further
Towards LV, very uncomfortable spot both for hitching and for cars to stop, just a small patch of gravel by the side of the road, speeds are decent, traffic density could be better but doable, wait times of 40-80 minutes to be expected
Very good spot for going further north, lots of cars, decent visibility, here the road goes from 2+2 to 1+1, enough room to stop a car comfortably, try to find a car going the least to LV, lots of locals, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Palanga, amazing spot, loads of traffic, decent visibility, quite some of the cars drive pretty fast but cars coming from Klaipeda are still pretty slow, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected
The gravel road entrance after the traintracks is quite big, you'll get a car the least going to Skaudvile here, lots of lorries around here, the gravelside here is wide enough to stop them, low traffic, wait times of 10-40 minutes expected
Low traffic towards Jurbarkas-Skaudvile road, you can wait by the side of the small town or just walk on the road, wait times of 15-30 minutes expected
If you find yourself on this road and want to go towards north direction, it is quite useless, just go south to Jurbarkas and go there wherever you plan to, the only few cars you'd see would go to the summercottages just a shy km north from here from there on there were no cars passing me til all the way to Vertimai
Towards Jurbarkas/Taurage, amazing spot, cars go slow from the highway or from the Kryškalnis roundabout, just right amount of traffic, wait times of 5-10 minutes expected
Towards Kuršenai, Šiauliai, small bus stop, but there's speed bump just after it so cars go all very slow, wait times of 5-20 minutes expected, decent amount of long distance drivers
Towards Venta, decent enough traffic flow, straight road, no specific spot needed, the turns from Akmene seemed very uncomfortable for drivers to stop so I'd recommend you to just walk next to the road and thumb the cars, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected
Decent bus stop towards Akmene, Venta, fair enough traffic, the stop is a bit small, but the cars don't drive that fast there either, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected
Towards Naujoji Akmene, very low density of cars around here, you can hitch anywhere on the road, just straight good road, wait times of 20-40 minutes expected
Towards Riga, but on a pretty big corner so cars are cautious and during evening no lights, the spot at the railroad crossing is probably way better, as well as using the crossroad to go to Dobele, but here I'd estimate you'd need to wait at least a hour.
Amazing spot towards Riga direction, speed camera in 50km/h area just before the bus stop as well as the stop being itself very wide and comfortable for drivers to stop, wait times of 5-15 minutes expected
Towards Durbe, Skrunda, decent enough speeding lane from gas station, the gas station also had lots of foreign lorries, so you might want to try your luck there in the early mornings, otherwise just hitch the cars from the road, wait times of 20-50 minutes expected depending on the time of the day
Small but good bus stop for getting out of Liepaja towards Grobina, good traffic flow, a traffic light before the bus stop, so cars go slow, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected
Very good wide bus stop towards Liepaja, good visibility, traffic is quite low, a lot of tourists with full cars, wait times of 10-40 minutes expected, wouldn't agree with the other reviewers, not that much traffic in the evenings
Small road towards Zagare, little traffic but cars are likely to stop, you can also stand anywhere on this road, doesn't really matter, wait times of 5-30 minutes expected depending on the time of the day
Towards Jelgava, great spot on the highway, just walk a bit further north from the bus station, seemed to be quite used one (people waiting there all the time for the local busses) but you can be before that, where a lane goes for the cars turning towards Medemciems, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected
Towards Haapsalu, little traffic but cars have barely any speed due to turn, sooner or later a car going towards there will pick you up, wait times of 5-35 minutes expected
To Rakvere/ south further, good road, you can thumb anywhere, not too much traffic but one of the first cars would pick you up, wait time of 5-20 minutes expected
Good for heading towards Tallinn - wait of 10 minutes, quite some cars take this road, not that much traffic headed towards Jõelähtme for that direction you definitely need to walk to the roundabout
Small bus stop towards Maardu, if you come from Tallinn you can also try the roundabout but a lot of cars turn to Muuga so I'd recommend just walking here if you are headed towards Maardu as a lot of locals use Kaldase road to come from Muuga, wait times of around 10 minutes to be expected
Perfect for heading towards Kohila/Tallinn, all the traffic from Rapla uses this road and due to roundabout the speeds are very low, works at nighttime too, wait times of 5-15 minutes to be expected
A deadspot on this road if headed to Rapla, most locals head til here, but people living in Rapla county usually don't go to Türi area much, the bus stop itself is fine but you are only visible from that much of a distance and cars slowing down usually turn to Käru as for cars going further just speed through and for them it's hard to stop, another problem is Käru locals who would turn towards Rapla use the road just 200 or so meters further so your best bet is to get a car from there, what I have done is i have just started walking along the road, it's a nice straight road for quite some time, low traffic, wait times to be expected over 100+ minutes unless you get very lucky
Not much of a traffic going towards Rapla, you still might get lucky with odd long distance drivers but mostly locals around here, wait times of 5-25 minutes expected depending of the time
Towards Türi, good spot, just stay after the roundabout, most likely you'll get a ride immediately, Paide-Türi is used constantly no matter whats the season, time of the day etc, wait time of around 5 minutes to be expected
Towards Roosna-Alliku, Ahula is lowkey a dead spot on this road, not much traffic anywhere, speeds are okay, 70 area i believe but people tend to speed through, good visibility but main problem is the lack of cars going any distance, wait time to be expected around 30-40 minutes
Fine spot going towards Roosna-Alliku, okay traffic but that's about it, the cars on road have high speeds and there isnt really a speeding lane or anything here, but locals from Aravete tend to go to Ahula/Kaalepi area the least, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected
There isn't really any roadside but since low traffic cars can just stop after the roundabout, perfect for going towards Käravete/Aravete, wait time of 5-10 minutes to be expected
Pretty fine spot towards Tapa, locals mainly, okay traffic, you can also use the turn to go south towards Assamalla/Väike-Maarja, good visibility for cars, wait time to be expected in 10-30 minutes
Very good spot towards Tapa, decent traffic, speeds are slow due to roundabout and very wide road here, wait time to be expected 5-10 minutes, mostly locals, some people use Viitna exit from highway to head towards further south to Väike-Maarja etc so also doable for that direction, or use the turn in a kilometer or so
Towards Czyzew, a bit more traffic here but still lots of locals, no shoulders or anything but cars can stop on the road due to low traffic, wait time of 10-20 minutes expected
By the side of the road there's some wide asphalted entrance, stayed here for about 60 minutes before walking and finally getting a car further up by the river, very low traffic, high speeds, mainly locals using this road, direction Czyzew, expect waits of 100+ minutes here
Another one of these villages where u have sidewalk and you can stop cars on road due to how low the traffic is, mainly locals, direction Czyzew, wait time of 5-25 minutes
Towards Ceranow, very low traffic, mostly locals, one of these Polish smaller towns and villages where u can just walk next to the road on sidewalk and stop the cars coming, wide road, wait time expected to be 5-20 minutes
Low traffic towards Ceranow, really there isn't much space for cars to stop, walked on a sidewalk next to the road but you'll catch a car within 20-30 minutes, mainly locals
Towards Wegrow, pretty hard to hitchhike here, low traffic and noone seemed to care when i tried to get them to bus stop, however when I started to walk next to the road I got a car stopping pretty fast, so might be that, might be luck, wait time of 20-35 minutes expected
There's a wide bus stop towards Wegrow direction but not that much traffic, a lot of locals and drivers didn't really want to pick up, mostly showing that they turn away soon, wait time of 20-50 minutes expected
Towards Serock, as of June 2025 there are construction works going on so the speeds are slow, the workers advised me to stay on this side focusing on cars coming from Nieporet as it would be hard to stop cars already on the road due to the nature of the road works, and it did work, a ride within 5-10 minutes, but no real shoulder for them to stop so just be fast to jump into the car
The bus L-9 takes you here, as of now (June 2025) the road is under construction and this bus stop is ideal since the construction starts around here, the cars slow down and it's a nice bus stop to stop to go towards Serock, a lot of local traffic tho, expected wait time of 5-10 minutes if you are not picky with rides
Towards Serock, pretty bad spot, cars drive fast and no real good visiblity, locals mainly turn away anyways, got here with 723, just waited til 731 took from Sobieskiego 04 a bit further on the road, the busses are nice, use common sense when riding them for free
Amazing MOP for north direction, used a lot and most traffic goes serious long distance, a ride to Warszawa the least, you can ask around or thumb or use sign, I imagine everything would work here, wait times of 10-20 minutes expected
Towards Kielce, there's actually busses here that you can just walk in and get free to Kielce but if you want to go further you can stand here, the bus stops were full of people but cars turning from Brzeziny will most likely stop with 5-10 minutes of waiting, where you can control more where you wanna go than with the bus
Towards Morawica/Kielce, there's a small side on the road where cars can stop, not the comfiest but speeds are slow so you will probably get a car within 10-15 minutes
Towards Chmielnik, there was a crossroad with a sign pointing that this is the road to Chmielnik and whilst it's true it is mostly just locals going to their homes in the nearby villages, so perhaps better option is to walk to 73, not sure. However within 30 minutes you might convince some local to take you to Chmielnik so its doable, or just take the walk to there
Barely any traffic, but locals are very friendly, most likely first car will pick you up and get you closer to Chmielnik, the question only would be when is the first car gonna come, you can hitch anywhere on this road, wait time of 5-30 minutes expected
To get out of Staszow towards west, not too much traffic as well as there isn't really a good spot for cars to stop but it will do the job, wait time of 10-30 minutes expected
Good bus stop towards Staszow, decent amount of traffic, might get a ride to Kielce, speeds are slow due to roundabout earlier, wait time of 5-20 minutes expected
Same story, wide entrances for houses, good traffic with speeds not that high, for short rides to get out of Mielec this is a very good road, direction Gawluszowice, wait time of 5 minutes
Wide entrances to the houses, since there is traffic light before the speeds are low, quite some cars, good for going northbound and getting out of Mielec, ask for Gawluszowice, don't expect a long distance ride here tho, wait times of 5-10 minutes expected
There's a shoulder where cars stop here, but seems quite uncomfy for drivers and they need to make a decision within a second, to get out of Mielec I imagine there are better spots, everything here is quite a walkable distance, here i'd imagine wait times of 40-120 minutes
Not much of a shoulder after the roundabout but the speeds are slow and you can catch a car going towards Tarnobrzeg within 10 minutes, just don't go too far away from the roundabout since they tend to speed up there quite fast
Towards Stalowa Wola, great spot, you can just hitchhike in Zaklikow, wide sidewalks and speeds are slow, long straight part with good visibility, nice amount of traffic and locals are friendly, wait time of 5 minutes to be expected
A wide shoulder for standing but not too much space for cars to stop, for the cars turning south to S19. I was here at the evening and asked for Krasnik, however even though a car stopped like every 10 minutes they always went off at the next exit (Strzeszkowice Duze), after like 7 offers to there but no cars going any long distance i just called it a quits for the evening, might be better luck or for short rides seems like an ideal spot, for longer rides you might need to wait 90+ minutes, otherwise 10 minutes for a short ride
Excellent bus stop for going towards Lublin, nice big building where u can hitch in rain as the roof covers you pretty well, speeds are very low, a lot of traffic and most cars go to Lublin the least, expected wait time of 5 minutes here (side note: probably will be outdated once the new road S19 has been built but for now this is amazing spot)
Wide entrance to those buildings, direction Siemiatycze, decent traffic, after this the speeds go up and I wouldnt recommend walking any further, expected wait time of 5-20 minutes
Not on this map, but actually there's a bus stop towards Bocki, decent traffic, quite high speeds but literally the only hitchable location around here, wait time around 20 minutes
Going south don't even think hitching from Knorydy or anywhere nearby, tried all of the area and a bus stop a kilometer or two southbound is the first real place for hitchhiking, very bad road shoulders, deep from asphalt and canal just next to it, hopeless
Towards south, decent village to hitchhike from, but this is about the last good spot around here, so try to accept only rides that go at least to Bocki, wait time of 5-15 minutes
Towards Augustow, low traffic, but literally first cars pick you up around here, expected wait time of 5-15 minutes, barely any villages on the road so most likely you will get a direct ride to Augustow, if you go to LT direction avoid Gruszki road and still use this and hitch further from Augustow
To Lipsk, just after roundabout, low traffic but first car usually stops since basically everyone here goes to Lipsk, expected wait time of 5-15 minutes
Dirction Dabrowa Bialostocka, just after guardrails it is very good road for hitching, first or second car will stop, low traffic, but friendly people. Wait time of 5-15 minutes
Towards Augustow/LT, lots of locals, usually i get quite some offers nearby, which can be tiring, wait times of 30-40 minutes til I get a ride with decent distance, it's still probably best spot around here
Instead of going as far as other reviewers suggest you can just come by here, it has some entryroad on right to some parking that nobody uses and you can just stand before that to signal cars to turn over there, it's wide enough for them to stop, wait time of 5-15 minutes expected for the least Zabludow, but quite some cars go to Bielsk Podlaski all the way also
Towards Sejny/LT, good visibility, decent traffic, be aware that some cars use the road to go Lipsk road so stay a bit further towards Augustow on the side of the road, don't block anyone, wait time of 5-20 minutes
It's pretty hard to hitchhike to Augustow if you come from Studzieniczna Sanktuarium and the island, especially on the marketdays, cars are full of families enjoying the sundays, walked along the road, never saw a good enough spot to actually stay for, got a ride within 40 minutes
If you want to get a ride outside of Sejny in south direction, just walk along the road and one of the first few cars will pick you up, but beware, it's mostly locals and not too much traffic, wait time of 10-25 minutes expected
Whilst I think this is a very nice alternative road this border post itself is quite awful for hitchhiking, I guess cars get carried away by border guards, who don't mind you hitching at all, wait times towards further Poland are 30+ minutes and if you are picky with your rides you may end up with hours before a car going further in would stop, if any
Direction north, if you got stuck around Akademija area and can't be bothered to take busses you can get way faster out around here, the side of the road is already wide and used for stopping cars, if you get a local car going somewhere in Kaunas, ask for Mega, it is very easy from Mega store to walk to a hitchhiking spots to out of Kaunas, give it a try, wait time of 5-20 minutes
Incredibly wide bus stops either direction, (like seriously, you can easily stop lorries to them as well), good visibility, cars do drive fast but wait times of 10-25 minutes are expected.
Towards Prienai, Kaunas, during daytime use this area where cars turn out from the petrol station, low speeds either way, good visibility and convenient for cars to stop, during nighttime, you have to stay around the entrance of the petrol station as about there the street lights end, wait time of 5-30 minutes to be expected
No speeding up lane for south towards Jieznas so honestly better idea to walk a bit where you are on the straight part of the road, decent traffic, but might be a bit hard to catch a car, wait time of 10-40 minutes expected
Towards Kruonis, Jieznas, Alytus, okay amount of traffic that all have slow speeds, but it's mainly locals, wait time of 5-60 minutes depending how choosing you are with your rides
Amazing gas station for either direction, try to find PL cars for going Poland and EST,LV for Latvia/Estonia, a lot of international cars around here, ask around, you'll most likely find someone going your way sooner or later, usually sooner, within 10-20 minutes. You can also hitchhike next to the gas station towards Panevežys if you find no cars going your way (north), still a very good bus stop also
This is a very good spot to get out towards north from Kaunas, use thumb instead of a sign, at least I recommend doing so, lots of traffic, trick is to stay a bit further past bus stop so drivers can see you way earlier, never waited longer than 20 minutes here
A small bus stop towards Telšiai, speeds are up here, but by now most locals have turned away with the exception of Balenos residents, good visibility, wait time of 5-30 minutes expected
Towards Telšiai, stood here after the speedbump, but maybe the speeds were too slow(?) since nobody picked me up within 40 or so minutes, so I started to walk down the road and about 400 meters later got picked up, lots of locals, but this is the short way from Mažeikiai to Telšiai
A bit awkward spot for going southbound, small side of the road, but speeds are low due to roundabout so you'll get a car within 20 minutes, but beware, its mostly local traffic around here
Towards Mažeikiai, decent traffic, slow speeds after the border crossing, wide enough road where the toll exits, wait time of 5-20 minutes to be expected
Towards Ezere, pretty fine bus stop, also almost nonused road before it, you can stand there and try to get cars to stop to bus stop, okay to low traffic density so beware, wait time of 10-30 minutes expected, you can check out what's left of the old Kursiši school meanwhile
Towards Ezere, not really a real spot but just a good road since low traffic, you can stand by the road, just walk past guardrails if you come from Kursiši, wait time of 5-20 minutes
Towards Kekava, south etc, great spot, don't bother walking til roundabout, there's virtually no place for cars to stop but instead use the bridge, it is very wide at where the other road goes under from it, you will get a car within 5-20 minutes
Towards Plavinas, fine traffic, during dark times you gotta be awkwardly close to roundabout due to poor lighting, otherwise there is very wide side just after roundabout where cars stop, better at daytime, wait time of 10-30 minutes during daytime, at evening probably expect around a hour of wait
Towards Vecpiebalga, Madona. Good traffic, slow speeds due to turn, no cars in parking lot so might not be as used anymore. The bus stop is wide enough for car to stop comfortably, wait time to be expected 10-25 minutes
Very wide bus stops and pitstop area for cars on both sides, very good visibility, decent traffic, with a lot of cars going quite some distance, wait time of 5-20 minutes
Towards Vireši, very low traffic out of Gaujiena and those who go tend to have full cars or speed a lot, ended up walking a km or a bit more before got a car, wait time of 20-50 minutes expected
Towards Gaujiena, mostly locals from nearby villages that use this, since speeds are slow on this dirtroad and good visibility you will be probably picked up very fast by first or second car, wait time of 5-25 minutes expected
There's actually a bus stop around here, you can sit or lay there on the bench waiting for that one car going towards Gaujiena or Valka, good visibility, dirt road and barely used, I'd say it has about a car in every 30-40 minutes, but that one car probably will pick you up also, definitely avoid this road if you are not up for a challenge and avoid (late) evenings
Long straight stretch southbound, most locals will have turned to the villages nearby so now you are just hoping to catch that one car going any further, very low traffic, wait times of 10-50 minutes
Towards Gaujiena, but there's barely any traffic here, most likely one of the first cars will pick you up but a lot of them are just local traffic, this road is rather dead, try to avoid or use Estonian side, good luck here, wait time of 20-50 minutes
Okay bus stop towards Tsirguliina or Tartu-Valga highway, cars come from around the corner tho and traffic density is low, wait times of 10-40 minutes expected
Towards Kobela, don't go too far from center since locals tend to speed out from Antsla, here the speeds will be still low, decent visibility, okay traffic, wait time of 5-20 minutes
Towards Antsla and Võru-Tõrva road, very good visibility, low traffic but most likely one of the first cars will pick you up, wait time of 5-20 minutes expected
Great spot towards Urvaste, okay amount of traffic, still town area so speeds are slow, cars might also turn from Kanepi teepiirkonna tee, wait time of 5-20 minutes expected
Bus stop towards Kanepi, locals from Põlgaste will most likely go there so try to aim for them, but most likely one of the first cars will anyways stop, low traffic, wait time of 5-20 minutes expected
Best spot for going out of Viljandi towards Tartu, cars come slow from turn, just be between the roundabout and Valuste road turn since if you go too up, you'll start bothering cars turning. Wait time of 5-20 minutes expected.
Wide roadside, decent amount of traffic, you can be here with just a thumb but sign makes life easier, directions for Võhma/Viljandi, wait time of 20 minutes
Very awkward road for either direction, Palamuse or Kaarepere, steep climbs and curves, bad visibility, high speeds, you might get lucky but most likely you have to walk between these two settlements, wait time of 40-60 minutes expected
Since Siimusti turn doesn't really work nor inside Jõgeva I have started to use this inbetween area, which usually works within 30 minutes if headed to Tartu direction
Towards Jõgeva, you can be either in the Koeru crossroad or walk a bit further, either way there's barely any traffic, wait time of 30-40 minutes on average
To get out of Koeru, most likely one of the first cars will stop, a lot of cars from here go straight towards Rakke, Tamsalu, Väike-Maarja so very good for that, but also just to get to Piibe highway(39), wait time of 5-10 minutes
Towards Koeru, very good bus stop, speeds are super slow which means that one of the first few cars will stop, however the road doesn't get too much traffic so you might need to wait some 10-20 minutes depending on the time.
Towards Virtsu, good visibility, try to aim for the cars coming on the road 10 tho, since most cars use different road when going there than 60. Wait time of 10-15 minutes
Very good spot either direction for rainy days also, you can stand under the bridge and try to hitch cars from highway and those entering also (if direction Tallinn), wait time of 10-20 minutes
Great bus stop for Keila/Tallinn direction, if the local bus is about to come might have people there so you can walk along the road, it's 70km/h area so cars are slower, expected wait time of 5 minutes
Nice spot for going out of Swinoujscie, got 3 offers within 15 minutes, a lot of locals, you could try to get with them past the newbuilt tunnel to the port roundabout, seemed like a very good spot also, but I just waited here for a longer ride, ( you could get a car to all the way to Gdansk and surely to Szczecin)
Perhaps the only viable spot on this road since Wolgast, but even then it is very uncomfortable for cars to stop, from here onwards all the roadside is full of trees basically next to the road with no space and there are silly bollards due to that all along the road, your best chance is the first bus stop in Zinnowitz but even that is a very iffy, I'd try to avoid getting stuck between the middle of these villages, wait times of 120+ minutes for sure
Last good spot in Germany in my opinion, try to catch a car for the border (more easier during workday evenings as a lot of Poles work around here but live in Poland), I was here during weekend tho, wait times of 5-10 minutes for shorter rides, locals will be offering nearby rides, but seriously reconsider them.
Walked from Gross Schönwalde, direction south, not that good of a spot, no shoulders on road, but people tend to pick up around here, just try to aim cars coming alone and not for a pack of them since they wont stop due to road conditions, wait times of 10-30 minutes expected
Walked along the road since Netto (in hindsight just go through Brandshagen town), first proper looking spot and got a car within 5 minutes, still not the best road for hitchhiking as barely any shoulders (there's an old road entrance here where the car can stop by)
Awful rest station, my longest wait ever(so far), tried talking, signs, thumbs, anything.., this rest area is barely used, not that many lorry drivers also, no chance of trying to hitchhike anywhere nearby so you just stay stuck there hoping for a car, during the time no polish cars, all germans, cars were full, people avoid you, wait time of over 360+(!) minutes, try to avoid it at all costs
Almost noone uses this exit to go east direction, most cars go towards west, wait times of over 100+ minutes expected, no street lights, people didnt seem nice, I'd probably ask to get out to the road towards Tessin and try to go that direction to highway
Since I was here during rush hour there was no point staying at highway a19 entrance and took this alternative route, lots of cars and after the villages, this patch of road is very nice, good visibility, a bit awkward for cars to stop since it's grass shoulder but got a ride within 5 minutes to Sanitz
During offseason the tickets per person is 15 euros, otherwise 30 euros, to my surprise the ferry was quite empty and not that many cars passed by (early spring) so ended up paying for the ticket, but if you have time seemed like a good spot to try to get a car to Germany further, good luck
Good visibility for cars, on top of a hill okayish bus stop, got a ride within couple minutes towards south, but i'd expect wait times of 20-30 minutes
If you come from the city you can already hitch along the road since osterbrogade street, got a ride before getting to the other marked spots, wait times of 10 minutes
Quite a bendy and uncomfortable road for hitchhiking, I'd recommend staying at Vindbyholt in bus stop if you are headed south, along the road very awkward places for cars to stop, little traffic, wait times of 40-70 minutes expected
Very little traffic, tried to hitchhike in Ladeplads but feels like cars didn't want to stop inside the town limits, but as I got here got a car to Vindbyholt, expected wait time of 20-60 minutes
I feel like this gas station can be a hit and a miss, friendly staff and options to stay for night, but car/lorrywise it took forever to get a ride, had few offers nearby to west, but for Gedser direction I had to wait for 200+ minutes, abysmal, used sign, talked, also thumb at some point, just wanted to get out from here, for me personally awful spot and if u do take the train or something from Copenhagen I'd just go further south to Koge
It is a good spot, but in the evenings there isn't that much traffic and most of it seems to be fairly local, wait times of 20-30 minutes, probably way better at daytime, would recommend more
Decent gas station with lots of lorries, but got here too late so most were already resting, you can ask around, you'll see quite some DK and PL cars (usually PLs are going to Ystad for ferry so if you are headed there this is probably perfect spot for you)
Not sure how the staff act in 2025 but since there was a lot of truckers didn't need to as I found a ride south within 30 minutes, a lot of trucks go all the way to Helsingborg here, you can also try the ramp but people seemed to speed there since most traffic came from Mantorp
Little traffic, if you come from exploring Djulö just walk along the road, no point in waiting here, I walked almost all the way to the mainroad before I got a car, it's a nice walk and most of the time cars have decent visibility, wait times of 100+ minutes tho
There's a small bus stop here, locals recommended this spot and said it works well for going south, I got here too late as past 10pm there's basically no traffic and next day already started more south but I'd give it a go if you are in Katrineholm
Towards Katrineholm, decent crossroads but not that much used, at evening the streetlights work so that's a plus, wait time of 30-60 minutes, try to aim for the cars turning from Äsköping
Towards Katrineholm, no point in staying at Alberga, right now (april 2025) there are still roadworks going on and there was a traffic light since only one side is opened at the time, with a sign you can get a car with decent speed, however if the road is fixed I don't see this part of this road being the best for hitchhiking, okayish amount of traffic, wait times of 20-60 minutes
Very nice countryside road with friendly people, the only problem is that there isn't that many cars here, but you'll get a ride to Alberga within 20 or so minutes
Tried this spot as an alternative to get south towards E4, a lot of people do go towards Iggesund, but no luck here either, and after 40 or so minutes went to another spot, the road itself is very wide here, it's the old highway, speeds are slow but didn't work out
First major service station in north, but I still decided to just hitchhike at entrance and it worked very well, just about the right amount of traffic and cars go very slow, good shoulder for them to stop, possibility to get real long rides towards south, wait time of 10 minutes, and almost every car reacted friendly that didn't pick up
Seems uncomfy for drivers but got a ride towards south within 20 minutes, got some good reactions from drivers as well, seems like the only right spot if headed south from Hudiksvall
Towards south this is abysmal place, you can seriously get stuck here, for north it may be fine as a lot of lorries staying overnight here were headed there but noone going south uses it, asking around the other cars seemed to not work also, on E4 there isn't a good spot, didnt work by asking or with sign, ended up walking myself to a better location after 140 or so minutes, try to avoid this at all costs, the reviews say it all
For direction south this is a very good lorry drivers spot if you get here early in the morning, truckers recommend this spot, since there isn't any big service stations etc around here, they use this lot for sleeping, but beware if you dont make it here early morning you might not have any lorries here, you can also ask at evening and arrange something for the next day, either way pretty nice alternative spot
Great spot, both by the road as well as asking around in this parking lot, lots of trucks and mainly getting fuel or food, got a ride offer to Finland within 10 minutes and within 40 minutes got truck going a long distance to south, probably best spot for long distance rides anywhere around here
Tried both the famous "truck stopping" that was empty at midday as well as the roundabout here, which is just not gonna work, high speeds, very uncomfortable, early april was snow/mud splattered across the side, just ended up taking a farmersroad to a better spot, here i doubt you can get a ride to south
I tried all of the options around here if going south, bus stop mentioned early, this area of road that had extra wide area for cars to pull over as well as immediately after the roundabout, but nothing within 180+ minutes, little traffic, absolutely horrible to get a ride, there's truck parking nearby here but mostly used by those headed north, might get better luck, by the end i just ended up walking along the highway til a car finally stopped when i was around 2kms or so further down the road
Towards south, good spot, very good visibility from highway, and the local road drivers go slow that turn from the port, got a car within couple minutes -probably more likely of 20 minutes wait times, decent place to pull over even at winter, and by now all the local cars are gone, so most likely will get a ride to Skelleftea the least
Both E4 and the ramp have little traffic towards south, so it's advisable to try to catch cars from both, long speeding lane and pretty comfortable place for drivers to stop, but due to traffic density expect 20-40 minutes of wait time
Very difficult spot towards south direction, cars enter already fast and more down near the roundabout there was no space at all (during winter at least), lot's of traffic but nobody seemed to stop (also a lot of traffic just turns off anyways at the next junction) wait times of 100+ minutes to be expected if you dare to be here, but I'd rather just walk a bit more south
Amazing spot for going southbound, very wide shoulder that is asphalted, speeds are slow and decent visibility, lots of cars from here go the least to Pitea, wait time of 5 minutes
The road is wide and well plowed during winter, better than staying in Kalix if headed towards Lulea, got a ride within 15 minutes, be aware that the bus stop a bit further up is hidden and people wont have enough time to react so no point walking further along the road from here, ( also turns into 2 lanes after the bus stop)
Direction Kalix, there's a small parking area by the road, but not really used, little traffic, on a contrary the road nearby that turns towards Övertornea seemed great with nice turn and wide shoulder even with snow, here tho you may end up waiting around 60-80 minutes
Superb spot, got picked up immediately, very nice bus stop with slow speeds, wide enough for lorries to stop, you may get super lucky here, if you wish to get a long distance drive i'd recommend having a sign and waiting and not accepting the shorter ones, but superb spot, wait time of under a minute
Towards north, decent amount of traffic, got a car here immediately, however spot seemed uncomfortable for drivers, so wouldn't recommend it fully, wait time more likely of 30+ minutes otherwise
An alternative to the Shell, seemed better to my eyes, as well as better plowed during winter. Cars go slow here but didn't get a ride within 30 or so minutes so just walked further north
As of March 2025 the spot seemed quite bad, little room for cars to stop, badly plowed bus stop, as well as wait time of 100 or so minutes before a local gave me a ride to " a better" spot, I'd honestly go with a bus a stop further and walk out of Ii for a ride north
Spot looked good, but noone stopped within 180 or so minutes so I ended up taking a bus to Ii, which I'd recommend to do always here, very few people use this exit, during winter the road conditions get pretty bad also.
At evening time there are lights, good visibility for cars and by now most locals have turned to sideroads, direction Oulu, wait times of 20-30 minutes
Used this bus stop for about 50 minutes before walking further up the road, not that good of a spot, speeds are high and at winter the conditions were very poor in the bus stop
I was told by the locals that this bus stop is apparently good for going north, but i'd argue against that, after waiting for 30+ minutes i just started walking along the road, about 700 meters or so onwards there is a nice straight stretch with no side roads or anything to make visibility very good with quite decent shoulders, i'd recommend walking there
Horrible stretch of road for going north, walked along the road and even though it was good visibility and not that much traffic, noone stopped for ages, wait times of 120+ minutes, around here I finally got a car
Seemed okay spot, but didnt get many cars, after some time (around 5pm cars start to drive out from nearby workplaces to go south so gets hard to use around that time, all-in-all pretty poor spot, wait times of 60+ minutes for sure
Yet another poor looking bus stop that got a ride within 20-30 minutes, little traffic for an E-road, a lot of cars will turn left just after this bus stop so be aware of that
Decent spot for going north, low speeds on cars coming to the highway, u can hitch both, but not that much space for cars from already on the highway to stop, wait time of 30-40 minutes
When it was hard to get to here, the swedes in the villages are likely to stop by and ask where are u headed (even if they are going the different direction) -completely different vibe to few kilometers more south, seems like a nice small community around here, got stopped thrice within 20 minutes for getting a car towards Jeppo
Tried all three of the bus stops coming from Oravais, this here looking like the best one, but honestly no point waiting in them, just walk along the road, little traffic and wait times of 100+ minutes
I was here already in dark, not the best visibility and got quite some middle fingers, however got a ride also within 20-30 minutes, so I'd say this is indeed a really good spot for going north, definitely the best on this road
Possible spot to talk with some people by the info table, but most of them are headed to west, otherwise useless spot, cars wont stop from road to here
Which seemed like an okay spot, turned out to be almost impossible to get a car towards east, wait times of 120+ minutes, just start walking and have a thumb up, no point in waiting anywhere around here, even the local cars coming from the villages don't pick up
Tried both bus stops, stayed here longer, but nobody still picked up within 120+ minutes towards Ekenäs/Tammisaari, awful road, people seemed rude, by the end just gave up and started walking by the road and finally like 20 minutes later got picked up
First okayish spot since Tammisaari for north direction, not that much traffic as well as hilly road with nowhere safe to spot, try to stay here by the entrance of the road so that cars could pull up to the bus stop after this, wait times of 40-60 minutes
Towards north, avoid this spot, nowhere near a safe place for cars to stop, if you end up here just start walking, I'll mark the first semi-decent spot
First spot for a car to stop after a long time, try to get a car for a longer distance as there's not gonna be many safe and good spots coming if headed to north
First kinda okayish spot, but the lightposts get on the way unless you dare to be in the middle of the road, very small bus stop, very poor area in general if direction is towards Perniö, I just started to walk along the road after 60 or so minutes
Pretty good bus stop towards Hanko, nice spot for cars to stop, also helped by the traffic light which keeps the speeds down, wait time of 20-30 minutes
Wait time of 20-40 minutes, not too many cars are using this entrance for Inkoo direction, but it's a really nice spot accessable with trains from Helsinki (to Masala or Jorvas depending on which line you take and walk here-- on side note, be careful of ticket inspections and don't take lines further than Kirkkonummi.
Indeed a very good spot for going towards Inkoo or Lohja, nice crossroad and wide bus stop (which is plowed well at winter too), wait time of 5-10 minutes
Another in theory good spot, but in reality a spot where you'll wait for a ride towards Kisko for 60+ minutes, wide bus stop with speeding lane for cars coming from Perniön as. road, high speeds for cars already on Kiskontie
Towards Salo, this is the area where the national park ends and most cars take this road to go back to Salo or further, slower speeds and touristy area which makes easier for cars to pick you up. Wait time of 5-15 minutes
Towards Förby, seems decent road for hitching, but little traffic, especially in the evenings, Finby has street lights which makes it better, wait times of 30-50 minutes
Perfect spot for going towards west direction, there's street lights for the darker times, wide and not that much used road so cars are likely to pick you up, got a car within 5 minutes
The old road towards Turku, but no use of hitching here, most cars go to the next villages, even tho the spot is decent the cars seem to avoid you, just get to highway entrance, wait time of 100+ minutes expected
Another awful spot towards Kisko, not that much traffic, tried both- the bus stop just a bit after (but with very little space) and this area after the turn, whilst speeds were slow noone seemed to stop, wait time of 60-120 minutes
Around here the road widens for bus stop, still quite a bad spot but by the evening I did manage to catch a ride with total time of 2+ hours alongside the road for going south from Salo
In theory good spot but in reality nobody stops, decent traffic flow for south direction, but had absolutely no luck and just started walking along the road
Small bus stop towards Turku, seems uncomfy for cars to stop but still found a car within 30 minutes, decent amount of traffic but the speeds may be quite fast
Okayish bus stop towards Turku, there's a restaurant the other side of the road where lots of longer distance vans etc stop by, on this side just a mere bus stop, which is a bit uncomfy as there's gonna be another lane after this for cars turning right, wait time of 40-60 minutes
Centre of Hanhisuo (a small village) is very curvy road, barely any traffic and for some reason the cars that did pass weren't keen to pick you up, just kept walking, wait time of a hour at least is expected
Probably not the best way, but alternative route taken by trailers, slow trucks etc to go towards north to Hämeenlinna, very nice for cars to stop, especially for the ones coming from Hyvinkää, wait time of 10-30 minutes
Not that commonly used road but people are likely to pick you up, most cars go at least to Nurmijärvi, during wintertime the road was quite snowy (the bus stop area wasn't plowed through) but the road itself is wide, wait time of 10-30 minutes
Pretty decent bus stop towards Vihti, lots of cars, speeds are not that fast cuz of the roundabout earlier, got a car within couple minutes, but would expect 10-20 minutes wait time otherwise
For a rather central Helsinki this is the only good spot for going outside, lots of cars with low speeds as they need to turn, nice area for cars to stop, always got a ride within 30 minutes, try to catch cars coming from ferries
Towards Keila, very rarely used road, with about 5-7 cars passing within a hour, various wait times but you'll find a car to Kloogaranna the least sooner or later, speeds are slow due to train crossing, but you can hitchhike anywhere along the road, wait times of 20-80 minutes
Towards Koeru, good visibility for cars to stop, the road has little traffic so the cars stop more likely, but wait times can be 5-20 minutes depending on the time of the day
Quite a bad spot in Lähte, towards Jõgeva, try to go a bit further north, lots of cars turning away, as well as small bus stop next to high school (so usually on weekdays lots of people around here), wait time of 40+ minutes to be expected the least
Towards Tartu, even though it's 50km/h and it has lights it may take quite some time to get a car, most cars are locals since more of Ahja people go towards Räpina or Põlva, wait time of 20-50 minutes, bus stop isnt that big, but decent enough for a car to stop more conveniently
Towards Tartu, not a lot of traffic around here, especially after dark, mediocre lighting, there's cars coming from Mooste, but half of them go the other direction or towards Põlva, wait time of 10-30 minutes
You can hitchhike anywhere in Värska, it's all 50 km/h and the side of the road is pretty nice, direction to Saatse, wait time of 10-40 minutes since very low traffic, mainly locals, beware to take id-card or passport since the border guards might check you
Towards Põlva, you can get here by going through Poldrijärve hikeway which is a bit more nicer than just walking on the road if coming from Ülenurme, decent traffic, wait time of 5-15 minutes, you don't need a specifc spot honestly in this road
Decent spot for going towards Feldkirch, next to the roundabout is a McDonald's where you can get free newspaper for sign making, I probably wouldnt hitch here without it, little space for cars to stop, but they are very slow, got a ride within 2 or 3 minutes, good traffic
Very wide turn towards Dengertstrasse, but busses and cars going to the hotels use it as well, the road was there wide and lots of traffic for west direction, got a car within 15 minutes
Direction towards west, I was here under the bridge where I could hitch both, ones going to the highway, as well as ones going on the B171, got a ride within couple minutes, pretty decent spot, but may be a bit uncomfortable when there'd be lots of traffic, (i was here at evening just before sunset)
There is no real traffic light here as the map suggests, but okay spot for west direction, not that used roundabout but there's some width for car to stop before entering the highway, mostly locals use this ramp, wait time of 40 minutes
Asked around in this rest station but all of the cars have east direction as well as mostly jampacked holiday enjoyers, was here for a hour asking til moved, potentially good for going towards Innsbruck but not for Bregenz
Very poor location towards west, no matter are you up here or try your luck down on autobahn (which is illegal), but either way no good spot for cars to stop, as well as mostly cars turn towards Innsbruck from here, wait time of over 40 minutes definitely, try to get to some other junction if possible
The road turns to two, but almost all cars went towards Germany, later on police came by, had a quick chat but didn't tell me off, waited for 50 or so minutes before walking further up the road, had like 3 cars pass me, with two having Imst numberplates
Decent long stretch on this otherwise curvy and dangerous road (for hitching at least), direction to highway, most cars turn towards Germany and not very used road
Tried to get south from Biberwier all along the road, no real place for cars to stop, as well as most traffic uses Lermoos to get to highway, waited for a hour before going further south out from Biberwier (I was here at winter)
Avoid this rest area, talked with people, at some point also hitched but in 4 hours I managed to get noone, and it's not like there wasnt any cars, lots of danes here, but noone gave me a lift even to Hamburg, just try rest areas more south , didnt work out for me
Pretty fine parking spot which doesn't get too many cars or lorries to have pauses, but you'll sooner or later find a car going most likely a long distance here
Towards direction north, don't try this ramp, had literally 2 cars go by in 30 minutes with either taking me on, rather take the tram and go to Kronberg, you'll wait here for hours
Very difficult spot for going north, also the lights are quite poor there, waited about a 40 minutes before got lucky, but I advise trying to hitch somewhere else (had a sing for Niedernhausen)
In front of the road into the parking places, lots of traffic, but hard to stop, had a sign for Mainz and finally in 30 minutes a car picked up, but honestly a really poor area for hitching
Tried both this and the Jet petrol station south but neither had any cars going any distance north, the road is pretty unhitchable at least during the day towards north here, lots of traffic, but hopeless, just kept on walking for a hope for a better spot
Quite an awkward spot for cars to stop, but got a ride for north direction in 15 minutes, 1lane for a direction, as well as lots of lorries taking the speed down in this 50 area
After checking the castle pretty decent spot for going to the north direction, quite some cars might go to the either b9 to Mainz or autobahn to west, wait time of 5 minutes
Wide exit ramp with almost no cars turning from there so good to hitch, ahead is traffic light, good for direction north, but almost all cars are local, wait time of 20 minutes
Decent amount of cars turning to the highway, mostly locals, direction north, there's 2 lanes that merge into 1 so the road is wide, but not the best spot for going a long distance, wait time of 30 minutes
Long lane towards highway, not sure if this falls for legal or not, I was behind the guardrail and got a car within couple minutes towards north as well as a police car passed me before when I was walking there and didnt stop, so yeah, would probably still recommend some other spots to be safe
Technically illegal, I was behind the bollards with a sign to Karlsruhe in a deep rain with traffic jam making the speed there to be like max 20km/h, got a car with 5 minutes, but probably wiser to stay somewhere else( unless huge traffic jams would happen)
Very wide shoulder where cars frequently stop just after the roundabout where the cars are anyways really slow, lots of cars, direction Freiburg, wait time of couple minutes
Not a lot of space for cars to stop, but literally as I walked a car stopped and asked if I want a ride to Bad Krozingen, lots of traffic, mostly seemed locals but that was really great
Decent shoulder for heading north, but almost all of the traffic here is local, as well as density of the traffic was little, got a lift within 25 minutes
Seems like a decent gas station as well as LKW where the lorries were at, didn't find any active lorries (was late at night so didn't want to disturb them), gas station had lots of cars but mostly locals or going to France/Switzerland (I myself tried to go to north)
All along this road from Waldshut towards west direction didnt find any good spots, but this was where I got picked up after waiting for hours on anywhere on this road, I was here late in the evening tho, around 10pm-11pm so thats why perhaps, good luck
In theory it should be a good spot for heading towards west, you have traffic lights and decent traffic with low speeds, but I guess the fact it's next to mental hospital or some hospital like that makes people not stop, waited here for 40 or so minutes before walked to another location
Uncomfortable for cars to stop but since it's very little traffic coming on to this ramp it's very likely you'll get a car going south immediately, wait time of 1 minute for me
Pretty decent spot going towards south, nice traffic, but not too much to be bothering the traffic if the car doesnt stop on a bit muddy side of the road, small speeds from roundabout, in walking distance from Landsberg, wait time of 20-30 minutes
Very awkward spot for cars to stop, but got a ride within a minute, direction towards Augsburg, but I honestly think I got very lucky here, okay amount of traffic, mostly locals, there's a traffic light before so cars see you
Okay spot for going south, still not that many cars and uncomfy for them to stop here, there's a traffic light which makes it a bit better, wait time of 45 minutes
Poor service station, little cars, and more of them headed towards north than south, people seemed reluctant to listen to you, waited for a hour asking around til decided to go towards highway exit
Good spot for heading west towards Konradsreuth, lots of local cars but willing to give a lift, cars coming from Hof have to stop here, as well as good visibility for the ones already on the road, wait time of 15 minutes
Decent place for getting a ride towards Plauen, Hof, not too many longer distance cars, but still a lot going towards south, wait time of 30-40 minutes, but it was really early in the morning, no trucks here (just about 2), you can get here from the village of Neuwürschnitz, walk across the football field and up you go, there's unlocked gate (on top of the hill)
Very nice spot, even at late evening quite some cars were stopping here, very good for going west (cars going to Dortmund, Bielefeld, Düsseldorf were frequent), but little traffic towards south, wait time of 50 minutes towards south direction, could have gotten a ride to west before that
Great spot towards Mohelnice, there's a side on the road where cars can easily stop, it's pretty large, speeds are slow cuz of the roundabout, got a ride within couple minutes
Very wide turn, comfortable for cars to stop, around here the settlements get smaller and less traffic, but good chance of a car going at least towards Moravsky Beroun, wait time of 5 minutes
Quite a long walk to here, before not many places to hitchhike, lots of cars turning towards Otice, direction towards Olomouc, mostly locals, wait time of 30 minutes
A small street towards right side is okayish spot for car to turn, lots of locals, medium traffic, direction Opava, waited for 40 minutes but not the best road for hitchhiking
Awful road for hitchhiking, waited for 70 minutes on this pretty busy but full of locals road, the only half decent spot, but seemed like cars weren't really friendly
Very poor road for hitchhiking, all along Petrkovice there is no real spot for cars to stop, mainly locals, waited in different spots for couple hours and just kept walking, I'd recommend taking a bus to Hlucin the least
There's a police station just down the road, and within minutes they were telling me to get off, not very friendly, I wouldn't recommend this spot and as seems from other reviews you should try alternative ones, no matter if your direction is towards PL or deeper into CZ
Not a lot of traffic towards north, so I just walked along the road, touristic area, got a ride with 20 minutes, but no nice shoulder for cars anywhere (there were roadworks in Parnica so I couldnt really hitchhike there) still pretty nice road
Pretty good spot, cars see you for quite some time for slow speed area, as well as a wide bus stop, got a car towards Parnica direction within couple minutes
Towards Dolny Kubin, medium traffic, lots of locals, anywhere in this village seems okayish, but not the best place for cars to stop, still got a ride within 20 minutes
Towards Dolny Kubin, lots of traffic, but a lot of them are locals, waited for a 70 or so minutes for a ride, seems like bus connection isnt the best since in the end hitchhiked with local grandma whose bus didnt arrive
Small little gas station next to the road, mostly local traffic, in 40-50 minutes of waiting saw only twice numberplates from further from this area, medium traffic, direction Tvrdošin
Probably the best spot in Hladovka, or in the centre by the main bus stop, but here I got a ride with 5 minutes, however in general a road thats barely used and locals, takes time
Very little traffic, direction Trstena, not much of a space for cars to stop, small bus stop, almost no traffic after 8pm, waited for a hour then gave up
Not sure if it's legal, but got here around 1am, and got a ride towards Lithuania at 1.30 am in deep winter, I'd say try this when in time where there's not many cars, good lights
Around bus station towards Elk, there's also streetlights (not the best) very little traffic around 8-9pm but got a ride with 35 minutes, speeds are low
Late in the evening towards Mikolajki, very little traffic and at winter not well plowed, but still first car picked up after 15 minutes (most traffic wintertimes goes either two of the other directions) this area is better during summer, pretty touristic :)
Pretty awkward spot, tbh whole Towarowa road seemed not really nice, but managed to get a guy from Mcdonalds to get a lift towards Mragowo, wait time of 40 minutes
Doable, but pretty poor part of the road towards Ostroda, little traffic, speeds are up and not many nice spots for cars to stop, got a ride within 40 minutes
Amazing spot for going towards east, 1st car stopped, not too much traffic as morningtime, but seems like a great spot, you can get both cars from Slubice or from highway, wait time of 1 minute
Hitched a bit further up on the ramp, but came here, took about 30 minutes to get a van towards Germany, but might not be as good as the gas station on A4 east 7kms from here
Towards Zgorzelec, a lot of traffic at slow speeds, as well as small parking lot next to cemetary and wide opening to that, got a car with first minute out here
Towards Dabie, good location, especially when trains stop the traffic, waited here, there was sort of a shoulder, took me 30 minutes but it was early in the morning, not too many cars
Don't try hitchhiking towards Dabie from here after 8 o clock, barely any traffic and most is very local, speed here is still low but that doesn't help you, might be better at daytime
All along these houses and in the bus stop, I waited for hours, it was dark and very little traffic, streetlights luckily existed but not much of a help, direction Klodawa
Small road with decent traffic, direction of Parzeczew, got a car within 5 minutes, you can honestly stand anywhere before or after the curve south from my location, everything will work
Not too much of lights, neither it isn't the most used MOP, however I was here quite late in the evening, lots of cars going all over Poland, no foreign ones, also lots of truckers, got a ride within 30 minutes
Decent spot to get towards Lodz, I was there late in the evening so not a lot of traffic, speeds are down but be sure to walk down here as up cars cant tell which direction you want to go to, also got recommended parking lot at the other side of the road, but at that time there was only 1 car there, waiting time of 30-35 minutes
Nice straight part, last place to get a ride before Blonie if headed to west, also traffic light does slow cars down, got a car here immediately but lots of local traffic
There's a bus stop here, you can get with city bus from Warszawa to Koprki Agricoop bus stop and then walk a little here, waited for 10 minutes, not the best spot at dark tho, lots of locals
Towards south, pretty okay location, but your better bet is for the cars coming from the junction, note: when walking here, go by the road 763, the area has high fence and nasty vegetation if you go next to the highway. waited 40 minutes
Towards Checiny, but honestly really bad spot and most people still live very nearby that drive by, mainly the traffic to Checiny uses the highway, just wait til the bus comes and it can take you all the way to Brzeziny petla or the Radkowice trainstation and walk from there onwards
Not the best but decent spot towards south, note that most cars here are local, bust stop with decent width, speeds arent that bad, wait time of 10 minutes
Small roundabout but better than any locations I saw in Szepietowo, direction Zambrow, little traffic, mostly locals, no space for trucks to stop anyways, but might get lucky, wait time of 30-40 minutes
Decent bus stop towards the direction of Szepietowo, not the best but will do the job, little traffic with mostly locals, but got a ride within 20 minutes
Very poor spot, most cars go to factories or villages here, no long distance traffic whatsoever, had to wait for 90 minutes, when managed to convince a bit drunk guys to give me a lift to Bransk
Towards Suwalki, great spot, just walk til the bollards by sidewalk end so drivers can see you, straight road, first car stopped and picked me up, I also tried Krasnopol's turnway but it's way worse than here
Towards Suwalki, wide old trucks weigh station or some sort of parking by side of the road, really easy for cars to stop, lots of locals but quite a busy road, got a ride within 10 minutes
Not the most of traffic, but good to catch cars coming from Leipalingis direction, but it's very wide so you can also have cars from Seirijai stopping here, in all honesty great spot yet again on this road, wait time of 10 minutes
There was a speed bump and low speeds, also a bit of a space for cars to stop, got a ride within 10 minutes, also have seen hitchhikers here before so I presume it's quite a used spot
Great spot towards west, wide straight road, with nice bus stop, beware that road goes soon to two so ask the driver which direction are they going to take, got a car within 5 minutes
Direction of west, bit of an awkward spot, bus station on top of a hill, speeds are high, mostly locals on the roads south and north, gas station had only local cars. Got a car within 30 minutes, but I feel like I was a bit lucky
Towards Alytus direction, the gas station is barely used, but at nighttime gotta stay closer to it, lights arent the best but it's good spot nevertheless, safe for cars to pull over, wait time of 10-15 minutes
Nice wide bus stop, direction west, once in position got a ride within first minute, be aware that the road splits ahead so make sure you know which direction the driver is gonna take
Poor gas station to ask around, it gets fair share of lorries but most were of weird nationalities (LT trucks) going not far from here, cars were mostly local, took me more than 60 minutes of asking til decided to go for the a4, at least it's a shelter from the rain
Very good spot for going towards west, cars go slow on this bendy part and long good driveway to stop, not the best lighting for dark times, but always got a ride within 10 minutes
Great spot towards Moletai, lots of cars go actually to Vilnius, at night it has lights which is another bonus however no the most traffic by then anymore, wait time of 5-10 minutes
Not a lot of cars going towards north, those who go mostly live nearby, a lot of local traffic and not any really good spots in anywhere here, you might get lucky but that wasn't the case for me
Main problem on this patch of road is that on direction north there's no streetlights so had to stay nearby this roundabout which was hard to get a car as two lanes soon go to 1 and lots of local traffic, took about 50 minutes to get a car, during daytime it'd be better
Gas station is mostly used by locals, but there's a small dirtroad with wide opening where cars can go, otherwise this part of the road is very difficult to get towards north
Towards north, uncomfortable for cars to stop, poorly plowed during winter, especially on mornings most cars go either to Pasvalys or Ažuolyne, i gave up on this spot after a hour and started to walk along the road
Very good spot for the Šiauliai direction, decent traffic, wait time of couple minutes and during the winter, there's also Kryžkalnis bus stop just down this road, so if you would get stuck you can go there
Pretty poor spot for me, direction of Joniškis, most cars signaled turning away from the road, twice cars almost stopped but kept driving before finally got a ride after wait of 100 minutes, perhaps a18 junction would have been better, but it was snowy winter and roads were badly plowed all thorough the road
Nice bus stop, during winters the roads are poorly maintained, so it's about only wider spot in the direction of Žagare, mainly locals and little traffic, oddly all the cars from Kemsiai turned to left so good to hunt them down as well, wait time of 10 minutes but not the best road for doing this
Towards Tervete, very rarely used border crossing, had 1 car in 1o minutes if lucky, by evening its more of 1 car in 30 minutes, it's doable but it'd take you a long long hours most likely
Towards Aleknos and LV, very little traffic, but there are latvian cars that pass by here, 1 car per 5-10 minutes, wait time of 10 minutes, you can just walk all along the road if bored
Towards north, no point in hitchhiking here, road quality on sides is diabolical, speeds high, and you are pretty close to Juodupe so you can just walk instead, i hitched all along the way there, but never got a ride
Very good spot for north direction, cars coming from turn are actually on mainway, but its sharp so everyone drives very slow, it's 50km/h area, but most were at 20km/h 30km/h, side of the road is wide and easily stoppable for a car, wait time of 5 minutes
Towards north, small dirtroad where cars can pull, since there's turn on road speed's a bit slower, very little cars, locals, be aware a lot of them can turn towards Cedasai, wait time of 30 minutes
No point standing here, just walk along the road, really little traffic past Panemunis headed towards north, a car in 10 minutes or so, surprisingly a lot of cars turned towards Konstantinava so you might get even luckier going there, if you are headed east
Just walked on the road, third or so car stopped, direction Panemunis, lots of locals, did see one LV car coming from north but thats it, not that used road, wait time of 10-15 minutes
Poor bus station, small, but at least there's bench, direction Pandelys, waited here almost for a hour, then just started walking along the road, little traffic, mostly locals
Towards Pandelys, not that great spot, but should be doable, main problem is very small traffic density, cars from Papilys tend to use other road since most just go to Biržai, you'll stay here for a hour
Always a good spot for heading towards Biržai, trafficwise not the most popular road, but there's speed bump just before and very wide bus stop, plus a cool statue to look at when there's no cars, waiting times of 5-15 minutes
The only decent spot when headed north from Skriveri is here, long bus stop, there's a curve before tho so beware that drivers don't have longest of time to make decision, but speeds are slow, some cars use this road to get from a6 to p80, so you can still catch rides to Riga, wait time of 15 minutes
Towards Skaistkalne, there's also a bus stop a bit earlier, if you feel lucky and risky you can stay there, Palejas, the village south is where first cars start coming from to head to Skaistkalne to store, eventually you'll get a ride, but it can take a lot of time, as this road is barely used
The road is actually paved til here nowadays, but very uncomfy for cars to stop here, if you have any cars, I'd say there was a car in every 15-30 minutes, but just keep walking along the road, no good spots anywhere here
Towards Kurmene, but really little traffic, 1 car in 20 minutes, you can try hitchhiking anywhere on the road, but didn't work out for me and just slowly walked to Kurmene, there's nice small sitting area down next to Nemunelis
Lots of traffic, but very poorly maintained bus stop at winter, you might get better luck from the cafe and petrol station across the road than here, cars were slow, but to get a ride prepare 40+ minutes
Nice straight road towards Tukums, not too much traffic but also not too little, so you can stop cars just fine without worrying about the shoulders too much, got a ride within 5 minutes, you can take a bus to Tuški and just walk a bit, it's a cityline from Jelgava, and follows Dobele's road for quite some time
A bit uncomfy to get here, direction to north, but outside of rush hour there's not too many cars coming off here, so they can stop here easily, wait times of 5-10 minutes
Poor spot for going south, head to the roundabout south for better ones, here most is local and no lights at dark times, wait times can be here for more than a hour
Lots of traffic, but a lot of them still go to Riga or nearby, also very inconvenient for cars to stop, but the rides are coming pretty decently 10-30 minutes
To north, spot is good since you can catch both ways of cars coming from A6, poorly maintained during winter and not doable at night, during daytime wait time of 20-30 minutes
Towards north, busy road but a lot of locals, hard for cars to stop, i'd rather get more up the road after the highway junction, also uphill and river if you gonna walk, here wait time would be over a hour
Pretty poor spot for northbound, lots of cars already thinking of junction, also at winter poorly maintained sides, wait time of more than a hour can easily happen
Good spot for direction north considering the road and intensity of it, i stand usually just before the bus stop and the storeway, also good at night time, nice lights, usual wait time of 5-30 minutes
Small little spot to catch cars coming from Adaži, direction north, most likely locals, but will help you get to a better place, wait times of 30-70 minutes
Cars go fast, haven't had much luck here myself compared to other reviews, it's definitely not a spot to be when its dark, otherwise i have gotten a ride here usually within 50-90 minutes
Saulkrasti in general is pretty poor for hitchhiking, lots of tourists at summer, medium local traffic otherwise, more easier to go a bit further north where forest is by the side of the road, here uncomfortable for cars to stop, wait time of 50-90 minutes
Awkward spot towards south, most cars on highway just speed away, only the cars coming from Limbaži usually stop, wait time of 20-40 minutes, well cleaned at winters tho
Anywhere south of Salacgriva, direction south, is good, don't be afraid to get local cars, as for now the construction of Salacgriva bridge makes traffic come in convoys, wait time 5-30 minutes
Another difficult spot, little traffic, at night time here the last lights nearby road are located here, so you probably should gamble here or walk a kilometer more north before Kamaldina road, wait time of 50-120 minutes
Very difficult spot to go towards Valka, also after that uphill and new bollards they have installed make it very inconvenient, also most cars here are local traffic, wait time can be for hours in here
Towards Lejasciems, little traffic, but people pick you up fast, south of here is old soviet nuclearbase, very cool spot to explore, during summertime might meet some tourists in there too, wait time of 5-15 minutes
Going towards Zeltini, the town's main bus stop, speeds are slow and the stop is of decent length, traffic is low, but 1st to 3rd car will pick you up, wait time of 5-15 minutes
Good visibility, nice straight part of the road, good for going towards Alsviki or Strautini, lots of local cars, a bit uncomfortable for drivers but they pick you up here fast, wait time of 5-20 minutes
Nice little road joining the main road, since in the middle of nowhere drivers pick you up more easily, great for southbound but traffic is low, wait time of 5-20 minutes
Okay spot towards south, but still a bit too close to the city, not too much traffic, has lights so doable at nighttime as well, waiting time here's 20-60 minutes
Very nice spot for going to Aluksne, not too much traffic (I am not sure if they have finished roadwork yet- it feels the road has been in construction for at least a year by now) but still people take it, slow speeds, wait time of 5-15 minutes
Pretty nice spot going north, cars take this route to Tartu sometimes as an alternative to the Viljandi one so decent amount of long distance cars, as well as locals, speeds here still 50km/h, wait time of 10-20 minutes
Great for going to Lauka or nearby villages, but don't get fooled by the road name, if you are interested going to Käina or anywhere south, go to Kärdla and from there to Käina, as almost noone uses this road to get there, if going to Lauka, 5-20 minutes to get a car
Very little traffic, but people do take this road as a shortcut towards Kõpu, but try this road only during summer and daylight time, waiting time of 10-40 minutes
It's a bit uncomfortable as uphill and not the biggest bus stop as well as speeds getting up already, but people tend to stop here still and wait times not usually more than 15 minutes
Pretty nice long straight road in 70km/h area, but little traffic besides summertime, try to not get here at dark, wait time of 5-20 minutes otherwise usually
If your destination isn't Lepiku village then go this road (if you don't want to walk to Emmaste), most cars even going to Emmaste will go north following 12132, rather than take the shorter Lepiku road, wait time 20-30 minutes, not a lot of traffic
Great spot towards Männamaa, it has wide shoulder and parkinglot and low speeds from turn, first or second car will most likely pick you up, wait time of 5-15 minutes
Good straight road to hitchhike to Vaemla, lots of cars at summer, during winter it has medium share of cars, touristic area, wait time of 5-20 minutes
Shortcut road to Kõpu, but only take it during the daytime, as its sparsely driven, 1st or 2nd car will tho most likely pick you up, wait time of 10-20 minutes
Decent spot just after the roundabout, but I'd recommend walking a bit more out from Käina, it's uncomfy for cars to stop here, however the wait times usually 5-15 minutes unless deep into the nighttimes
Great spot for going towards Kärdla, this road in general is good anywhere, also the most used road in the island so you will have quite some cars almost all the time, wait time of 5-15 minutes
Alternative for when no ferry, there's still locals sometimes around this carpark or near the smaller boat port, also there's storebus that comes by here, where locals might be at, you might not get a ride far, but you can get a car to a place that has traffic outside of the ferrytimes
Welcome to Hiiumaa, the best area for hitching in the whole Estonia in my experience, here go a bit further down from the bus stops, there's 2 lanes for a long time and just wait until a ferry comes, you'll most likely get a ride but be specific where you wanna go, wait time; whenever the next ferry comes
A bit worse bus stop but in case of a rain it will do the job, otherwise i'd walk a bit further, there's still cars turning away from here or towards Hirve, wait time of 40-70 minutes
Towards Narva, pretty nice bus stop where speeds arent that high but also away from houses, good visibility, lights at crossroad at nighttime make it easier for you as well, just be aware that borderpolice might check you (you are allowed to hitchhike so no worries)
There's a small road going to the riverport here, speeds are down, good for going towards Narva-Jõesuu, wait time of 10-20 minutes, lots of traffic, but be aware of borderpolice, they might check you (you are allowed to hitchhike so don't worry, it just goes about all this general area in Narva)
Good place for going out from Narva, the only viable in my opinion, it has decent lights but roadside is quite muddy as well as there's gonna be turnlane for right, waiting times gonna be depending on season and time from 10-50 minutes
Towards east, nice visibility and speeds are still at 70km/h i believe, there's traffic coming from both the sideroad from Sillamäe and also from highway, waiting times around 5-15 minutes
Pretty good bus stop, long speeding up lane earlier, you probably should stand somewhere in middle, (unless on rain), not many cars coming from Oru so keep your eyes on highway, but since it's nice straight part drivers seem to speed a lot in this part, waiting time of 5-25 minutes
Towards west, decent spot, but bollards make it annoying, also I wouldnt recommend staying here during rushhours, it's pretty uncomfortable spot for cars to stop, but you'll get a ride at least to Kohtla-Järve within 5-20 minutes when traffic density is a bit slower
Good spot, I always try to catch cars coming from Jõhvi instead of the ones on highway, stay on ramp, there's driveways to the houses and decent amount of width, wait times of 5-20 minutes
Towards south, wide bus stop, good visibility and since there's settlement here there isnt too much of a speeding going on here, low traffic in the evenings, wait time of 5-30 minutes
There's actually a bus stop in here, really wide and speeds are slow here, great for going southbound, a lot of local traffic, you might even catch someone just going to their datcha turning couple hundred meters south away from road, so be aware of that, otherwise it's good spot, waiting times of 5-20 minutes
Very good spot if headed towards Vasknarva, lots of cars and small speeds, however most cars go somewhere between, lots of locals, wait times of 5-20 minutes
Towards Narva, it is decent spot, but a lot of traffic goes to Jõhvi, also Kohtla-Järve and Jõhvi has frequent busses, so people don't really understand what you are doing, in all honesty, just get a bus to Jõhvi and go from there if headed to east, here you'd be for 60 minutes for sure for a place with relatively good traffic
Decent spot to catch cars coming from Kohtla-Järve, however a lot of local traffic, and absolutely 0 lights at nighttime, during winters usually poorly plowed, wait time can be 10-80 minutes
Towards Tallinn, not the greatest, they added bollards to the middle not so long ago, which makes it more uncomfortable for cars to stop, sideroad doesnt get much traffic, lights at nighttime tho so good for that, wait time of 20-80 minutes
Towards Kohtla-Järve, it is actually a decent spot, nice wide bus stop but mainly very local traffic and seems most cars go somewhere around Lüganuse, wait times of 10-30 minutes
Towards Aravete, but either direction really great spot, long straight actual former runway for soviet airplanes so the widest road possible, nice visibility, at winter very slippery area, otherwise great, waiting times of 5-35 minutes
Pretty nice spot for Põltsamaa direction, little cars but usually they will pick you up pretty fast, bus stop is wide but at winter gets muddy and ugly, wait time of 5-60 minutes
Towards Jõgeva, try to aim for the cars coming from Tartu since noone will turn on this junction, doable both summer and wintertime, waiting 5-50 minutes
Just start walking from Kärkna and keep your thumb up for all the cars, there's not much traffic but quite some from northern Tartu headed to Tallinn this road, waiting time will be 10-40 minutes
Very awkward spot towards Jõgeva, hard for cars to stop and on a curve, try to avoid this junction if direction is north, waiting time here would be 90 minutes
It may look like a good spot but highway is so close that just walk there, Ape doesn't get much traffic going out from there, here you'd wait for a hour
Finally first somewhat decent spot on a road since the last estonian cars usually turn from this junction leaving you only with LV, however really little traffic, waiting time of 20- 40 minutes here but anywhere else on the road more than 60 minutes for sure
Not a single good spot in Misso to go towards Latvia, I just kept walking on the road since really little traffic, you'll be better off at the straight parts of the road than here
Very difficult road, no cars passed me in 2 hours, I walked all the way from here to Luhamaa-Misso highway, it's a really nice walk tho (did it early in the morning so maybe that's why so little cars)
Better, only minus since there's very little amount of traffic, good for going south towards southern villages, waiting time of 20 minutes, also doable in winter
Uphill really poor location towards Kirikumäe, just keep walking south til you are at least on top of the hill, very little cars, waiting time here would be definitely over a hour
Very little traffic, mainly just people who visit Piusa ( you can just go and ask there in parking lot as well) but usually 1st or 2nd car picks you up and gets you further south, waiting time of 10-20 minutes
You can hitchhike anywhere on the road towards Võmmorski, since the border being shut for most traffic, there's barely any cars, 1 in every 10 minutes to be lucky, someone will eventually stop but enjoy the nice walk around, wait time of 30-80 minutes
Great spot if headed to Põlva or southbound, cars are very slow and lots of bigger villages around this road, don't be scared by its small roadstatus, it still gets decent amount of traffic by estonian standards. (if a car goes to Ahja try to convince them to drop you here), wait time 5-15 minutes
Not a lot of traffic headed toward Räpina, might take a long wait if hitching here on not so popular hours, bus stop itself is small and not the most comfiest but over the time you'll get ride
Bus stop towards Räpina, lots of local traffic, but the cars stop pretty nice here, better than on the roundabout, sometimes the stop isnt plowed the best at wintertimes but will still do the trick, wait time of 5-20 minutes
Long straight road towards Värska, not a lot of traffic, but the cars pick you up, also hitchhikable at winter but not in dark, waiting time of 5-20 minutes
Pretty nice spot if headed towards Tartu, especially cars coming from Vastse-Kuuste, its wide enough there to stop and will work both at summer and winter, wait time of 5-25 minutes
Side of the road is pretty wide and as all cars turned towards here, speeds are slow, cars towards Luhamaa or southbound stop pretty nicely here, waiting time of 5-20 minutes
Good roundabout for either direction, north or south, not too many but also not too little cars, so just perfect to stop cars here, waiting times of 10-20 minutes
Very good gas station, almost all of the refillers are headed to north or farther away from Võru, great odds of finding a right car or lorry within 10-30 minutes
Great area to go to Otepää, most likely first or second car will pick you up, lots of local traffic and the density of traffic is quite sparse, waiting time of 5-15 minutes
A bit harder towards Tartu, either the bus stop or immediately after Kambja but its pretty difficult place to stop for cars either way, I'd recommend just walking to Otepää junction, here you can still get a car but within 20-50 minutes
Been here many times going towards Tartu, cars slow down before turning and 90% of them will turn left, will do even at nighttime or at winter, once even locals from house next to the spot gave me a ride to Tartu, waiting time of 5-30 minutes
Really great spot if headed to Tartu or Tallinn (lots of summer enjoyers from north estonia in here during that time), not the widest, but reasonable bus stop, waiting time 5-20 minutes
Used to be better, nowadays rarely cars stop here, speeds are fast and a lot of traffic turns towards Põlva, if headed to Võru, waiting time of 30-40 minutes
Decent spot tpwards Tartu, but all the cars from Sooru will turn towards Tsirguliina so keep your eyes for cars coming from south. Also at nightime there's zero lights, so be prepared for that, wait time 20-60 minutes
As always, at winter almost impossible, but fine spot at summertime, wait time 10-120 minutes (winter), you can also take a bus to Puhja from here. Not a lot of cars and those cars are all local
Towards Tartu, great spot, not the longest of ramps but well visible, no streetlights for nighttime tho, but lots of local traffic to Tartu to combat that, wait time 5-20 minutes
Even though it doesn't look that promising the spot just keeps delivering, lots of traffic to Latvia and Lithuania and somehow they always stop here within 10-20 minutes, in itself it's just a bus stop and not many cars turning from Linnavere road
Small parking southbound but only advisable to briefly stop if some car actually is there to try to chat, otherwise I'd go to Lemmatsi junction, not really cleaned nor used during winter
If headed towards Haapsalu or Risti, don't hitchhike inside the town, but walk further past the park of the manor, there are way better odds of getting a car, here it'd take up to 2 hours, also not much of traffic here after 7pm
Best spot if headed to north from Viljandi, cars coming from the 49 will have very slow speeds, and so will the ones coming from viljandi, harder at winter or at dark times as minimum lightning but in overall 10-60 minutes of a wait
Towards Imavere, but poor spot, honestly all of that road up til the junction with 49 is pretty hard to hitchhike, waiting times will be 40-120 minutes
Towards Viljandi, quite difficult spot, if its getting darker, go and talk with people going to the store on the other side, higher chance of someone picking you up from there than from that bus stop, wait time 60-120 minutes
To Tartu, pretty easy to get a ride from here, 50km/h area, cars being slower cuz of junction to right on a hill, as well as wide bus stop, (most cars will head to Tartu from here) time 5-20 minutes
Tallinn direction, amazing spot, even at dark you'll get a car within a hour usually, you can get here by Tartu city bus that goes to Kannikese stop and then walk, waiting time 5-50 minutes
Direction Tallinn, even tho the speeds ain't that fast here, it's very uncomfortable for cars to stop here, try to just walk a bit further along the road, here you'd wait for 2 hours for a car
For some reason there's a bit muddy but wide roadside nearby this river when headed towards Tallinn, and cars have good visibility, no lights at dark, waiting time 20-30 minutes
To Tallinn, ramp but speeds already high and it's gonna get to 2+1 with really bad borders, try to get to bus stop i mention in the review nearby, you'll thank me later
Towards Tallinn, if the car is going to Puurmani ask to get out in this bus stop, trust me, you don't want to get stuck at Puurmani junction,
here however there's straight road and speeding camera just after the bus stop, waiting time 10-20 minutes usually
The ultimate best spot on Tallinn-Tartu highway if headed to Tallinn, nice bus station, as well as speeding up lane however there is speed camera at 50km/h area so everyone is extra slow, never have i waited here for more than 10 minutes, with average ride coming within 2-3 minutes
to Tartu, not the best after the addition of safety island, but walk a bit further and it's pretty decent place, or you could also try gas station nearby, both would get you wait time of around 30-60 minutes
There's a bus stop here, direction Tartu, it's fine, better than the stops at Mäeküla imo, there's speeding camera downhill before that so drivers are quite aware of the surroundings, waiting time 15-40 minutes
There's bus stop and also parking nearby, not the best area on the road, hard for cars to stop but usually you'll get a ride within 60 minutes (towards Tartu
Towards Tallinn, not as long speeding up lane as in other direction, but still very good, most cars from Paide will head to Tallinn, wait time 10-20 minutes
Good spot if headed south, unless you will go at night, quite some traffic coming from Paide as well as cars from highway, long shoulder, wait time 10-30 minutes
Towards Tartu, fair spot, but not as good as the earlier ones, also at nighttime no lights, so beware of that, waiting time 10-30 minutes, at night can be up to couple hours
Lots of local traffic but most cars will go to Kose or Kehra, which are both good places to go to, speeds lower cuz of the corner on the road before and then straight way, wait time 5-20 minutes
Good spot if headed towards Ojasoo (also the 2nd roundabout is really good for that), if headed towards Tartu or Tallinn, walk to the highway, wait time to Ojasoo 10-20 minutes
The other spots here are from older times, but just to clarify, this spot isnt that good anymore, as the new highway goes further south, you'll still find cars here during summertime, but odds of getting a ride far from here aren't that good
towards Tallinn, good spot, but you gotta walk here, there's not many cars joining from here so your best bet is the cars from highway, decently long speeding up lane and fair visibility, wait time 10-40 minutes
Around here onwards good to hitchhike towards Kernu, low traffic, but cars will pick you up within 10-20 minutes, you can just keep walking on this road if u wish to, here it's still 50km/h though
Decent bus stop, direction south, but you want to walk a bit further up from the bus station since it gets secluded from highway, slower traffic can stop from right lane, have gotten lorries from here, wait times around 10-30 minutes
Actual spot here, towards south, pretty good location, hard to get here tho, cars coming from roundabout will sooner or later stop, the lights here are old style so not the best visibility at nighttime, wait times around 10-5o minutes
If headed towards Saue/Saku, decent spot, otherwise 1/5 if headed south, right lane goes down to Jüri roundabout, speeds go down to 70 or less, wait time around 20-60 minutes
towards Tallinn, very poor bus station, or viadukti tee that is a bit more south from here, highspeed traffic that is just itching to get to Tallinn, just try to take a countybus or just walk to Tallinn on foot
Probably worst speedup ramp here, very short with walls next to it, also most cars from Assaku go just til Jüri circle anyways, traffic from highway really unlikely to stop, poor location, just walk south to gas stations or Jüri if you are already here
Decent spot during daytime, more of at mornings, when not that much of a traffic is going southbound, long speeding up lane, however as per usual for this part of the highway still long wait times, 40-80 minutes
Pretty poor spot, this one and the other bus stop 100-200 meters south, neither will have almost any cars stopping by, wait times may be up to couple hours
The best spot if headed towards Tartu, traffic light before and you can get here with bus nr 2, however it still takes tons of time to get a car, usually wait time 30-120 minutes, on plus side, it's pretty good lightning at nighttime here, and road is clean of snow at winter
Towards Rakvere, very hard spot, cars merging from several lanes and speeds are quite high already, right lane mostly goes to Loo circle so honestly I'd recommend taking a bus and going a bit further, wait time 60+ minutes
At nighttime have hitched here many times, towards Viimsi, all along Pirita tee, especially the area before Rummu tee, is pretty good, all but one time I have gotten a ride, usually within 20-30 minutes, ( i use buslane for standing since no busses at night (unless friday-saturday)
Have tried numerous times here, whilst waiting for bus, never got a car take me on even tho there's traffic light before and nice bus stop, however a lot of city traffic and rightlaners tend to turn to Nõmme anyways
If you somehow end up in here, walk to Saku and try there on the roundabouts, very hard location as no car from highway will stop and barely any traffic turning, wait time would be 120 minutes for sure
Towards south, no luck in this or the other Sillaotsa bus stations, too much traffic and a lot of the right laners will turn to Laagri, would advice seeking further south, just take 18A, it will take you to Urda stop and then walk from there a bit, wait time 60 minutes +
Nice shoulder towards south but no cars really coming from it so gotta try to get a car from highway (it's 100 or 110 km/h on there) so it may take some time, 20-70 minutes
Decent spot on highway, if headed towards Märjamaa, walk a 100 meters away from the point, to Märjamaa 10-30 minutes, to Risti or to Lihula depending on the day 10-50 minutes
Direction Koluvere, not a lot of traffic, but still quite some, I'd recommend just hitchhiking on the road, the roundabout isnt the best imo in Märjamaa, wait time 10-20 minutes
Don't get fooled by the name, but actually it's a mainhub with cars going both directions to Riga or to Estonia, more likely towards Estonia since all the locals from Pärnu county buy their alcohol from here, wait time 20 minutes, good til 10pm
Best gas station on the road especially if headed to south, lots of long distance traffic, trucks (mainly tho Latvians themselves) and all kinds of people, in both the gas station and hesburger, wait time 20 minutes (knowing russian helps)
Old Pärnu road, nowadays quite touristic area, really nice for hitchhiking anywhere along the road both directions, you'll get a car to Ikla or to Häädemeeste pretty fast, not too much traffic outside of the summer, wait time 10 minutes (anywhere on this road)
If headed towards east, you'll get a ride, but it will be mostly local traffic, not good road for nighttime as not many good spots for cars to stop or lights, wait time 30 minutes
Used to be good spot for going south, right now it still has a bus stop, but now it goes a bit off from the road, you can try hitchhiking on shoulder before that, will take before 10 minutes, now probably around a hour to get a ride
Good spot for Lihula direction, not the best visibility at nighttime but it's 70 km/h area, wait time 15-40 minutes depending on the time of the year and day/darktime
If headed towards Audru school or Lihula, just walk down the road couple kms til the school or take the bus, all the traffic here is local, will most likely go about 200 meters to the houses
Good spot towards Pärnu, you'll have cars coming on the road already sped up but first or second car from Lihula will take you most likely to Pärnu, wait time 10-15 minutes
For those who enjoy gas stations, the best one in the area, decent amount of cars going any of the three directions of Pärnu/Saaremaa/Tallinn, might take some time tho if you are not speaking Estonian (or Russian), wait time 30 minutes
Towards Haapsalu, really nice spot, you can stay here or in the bus stop a bit further down the road, little traffic but I have always gotten literally 1st car to pick me up and get me to Haapsalu/Rohuküla, wait time 5 minutes
Good bus stop, direction Haapsalu, since besides Padise there's not many places left on the road, you'll have lots of longer distance traffic, (well not lots of, it's smaller road) but you'll pick up a ride rather fast, 10 minutes, also convenient store nearby
Pretty nice spot on direction Haapsalu, since Padise is the last bigger settlement before Linnamäe, most cars will head far, not much traffic, but you'll get one of the first cars, 10-20 minutes
Decent bus stop, not much traffic, but the cars pick you up good, honestly really nice road towards Keila/Tallinn, my recommendations as alternative to the Haapsalu highway, way prettier, and takes as long as the other road ;D, wait time 10-20 minutes
If you get a car to Linnamäe and are headed towards Keila/Tallinn, then just walk along the road, not much traffic so no worries, there isnt any particular place that stands out as the best spot, the 2nd or 3rd car will pick you up anyways and get you at least to Keila, wait time 20 minutes
If you make it here just before Hiiumaa ferry, it's the best spot, (in the port bus station the busses stop so I wouldnt recommend there too much), during ferry time you'll get a car definitely but otherwise try to walk towards Eigla bus stop
Best spot on the road for heading towards Haapsalu, short walk from the port, always local traffic headed to Haapsalu picking me up, may take long since not much traffic but never had to wait for more than 5 cars to pass, doable even in rain
Decent spot, but cars tend to not stop here when there's tourists checking out the remains of the castle, without any other cars parked nearby you'll get a ride to Haapsalu within 20 minutes
This or anywhere on the following straight part of the road is pretty good when headed towards Rohuküla, most cars are going there on this road by this point, 10-20 minutes of wait time usually, unless late in the evening
Good bus station, nice for cars coming from Männiku road, but also you can hitchhike anywhere after the Haapsalu central bus station towards Rohuküla, not that much traffic and friendly people, usually 10 minutes
There's infotable and speed 50 km/h after sharp turn, pretty good place to hitchhike towards Rohuküla, a car within 10 minutes when you are going on the popular ferry times
At nighttime a bit better to stay closer to the road and roadlights, otherwise try a bit further down the road, I only use this spot when it's dark or really late with not much of traffic, will get a car within 30 minutes usually
Probably best spot headed to Tallinn from Haapsalu, but even then it takes 10-30 minutes to get a car usually, still in city limits but no shoulder, don't get fooled by cars turning to Tennise :D
Not the best spot for going towards Tallinn, takes usually 40 minutes, here there's still quite a lot of local traffic (most headed towards Linnamäe or Taebla)
Decent bus stop towards Tallinn, i'd walk tho a bit further down the road towards Taebla (before speedcamera where its long straight road), wait time in bus stop around 40 minutes, on the straight road 20 minutes
Direction Tallinn, pretty hard spot, not much lighting after Taebla and speeds go up to 90km/h again, can work at daytime but waittime is around a hour, when its nighttime stay more towards taebla center, between the safety island and the house
Great little bus stop, helps against rain as well, good for getting towards Haapsalu, wait time 10 minutes, (people will generally think you just missed your bus and are willing to help)
Long speed up way but not much cars coming Tallinn direction from Palivere, usually need to get a car from the mainroad, however that takes a lot of time, 30-100 minutes, also the road doesnt get cleaned that long during wintertime so prepare for that
Best spot imo headed towards Haapsalu from Risti, tho a lot of the cars coming from Risti don't go far, you'll get a car already on the main road to stop within 10-15 minutes, not hitchhikable at nighttime sadly
direction Haapsalu, not that good of a spot, as most already have gotten up their speeds and most cars from either roads, Lihula highway and Risti itself turn towards Tallinn, I usually walk to the next road from Lihula which has way longer speedup way, here it's 30 minutes at least
It's good spot towards Tallinn during the daytime, at dark you'll need to wait for cars coming from Lihula which may take some time, pretty nice tho even deep in the winter, wait time depending on the season 10 minutes to 90 minutes
Usually I walk here from Risti, it's a good long straight part of road, cars will stop within 10 minutes, there's also Rehemäe bus stop a bit further down the road, which is decent but its just before a corner as well as fast downhill before so I'd recommend this spot better (direction Tallinn), wait time 10 minutes
Last decent bus stop before Risti (others are quite pointless ones) still may take quite some time to get a ride towards Haapsalu, not much light after dark here so you might want to get yourself a bus after the dark (it has connection with Haapsalu) wait time 30min to 2 hours
Decent spot for heading towards Tallinn, usually you'll get a car within 30 minutes, you could also try the Jaama tee turn but there'll be lots of local traffic headed towards Riisipere or similar areas, now there's also a gas station next to it, but mainly used by locals or people coming from Tallinn
Great spot for Haapsalu direction, good visibility during daytime as you are down in valley, if possible try to get here instead of Riisipere crossroad (from my experience) wait time 5-10 minutes
70 km/h area, headed towards Tallinn, it's decent but may take up to hour to get a ride, for a plus it has a hut in bus stop so good for rainy days, as well as hitchhikable at dark (which cant be said that much about the stop on the other direction)
Not the best spot (direction Haapsalu), after bus stop there's also way turning to gas station but gas station is mainly used by locals from Riisipere area, speeds are down at 70km/h but still I'd personally try to walk further towards Riisipere manor bus stop, you'll get a ride still within a hour so not the worst either
Nice little bus stop, behind the curve towards Haapsalu is a speedcamera so drivers are usually already down at 90 km/h, gotten ride always within 10 minutes
Bit awkward area, but a lot of longer distance traffic, you can just walk by the side of the road thumb up and will likely get a car within 10 minutes, (direction towards Haapsalu)
Best spot on the Haapsalu highway (headed towards Haapsalu), always got a ride within 20 minutes, usually just couple minutes, speeds are low, 50km/h area, good visibility and most traffic is headed at least some distance
Kanama bus stop, it's decent, better likelihood to get a car from here as the cars headed towards Saue have left, still usually takes 20 minutes at least for a ride
The best spot going Pärnu/Haapsalu direction nearby Tallinn, usually I get a ride within 30 minutes, however can take up to 2 hours, decent spot in all weathers and times, however a lot of cars will pass by really fast, try to aim for the ones coming from Laagri stores
