Not a great spot, but there's nothing better nearby. I was standing in front of the traffic lights. It's tricky to get a ride because the light stays red for only about 30 seconds. Usually, you have even less time, and all the communication and getting your stuff into the car needs to happen within that short window, so be prepared to move quickly. About a 10-minute drive north, there's an excellent parking area/gas station where it's easy to get a ride in almost any direction, so just try to get there.

I was trying to get to the UK, and damn, it was hard. In the end, I got stuck here for two days. After day and half when someone offered me a ride just to Calais, I agreed and bought a foot passenger ticket for the ferry. Don't get me wrong, it's possible. But you certainly need to be an experienced hitchhiker and know what you're doing. I wasn't, and I struggled a lot. Also, if you eventually decide to just go to Calais, be aware that the ferries can easily sell out and you might end up stuck in Calais for the night, which I do NOT recommend. Try to get to Dover as quickly as possible (and get some fish and chips).

A car stopped almost instantly, but I felt pretty lucky. I also slept close to this spot and can only recommend it. It's only 2–3 km to a nice area where you can find a place to pitch a tent. There are two ponds to the south; I took a swim in the southern one.
