signed for dublin and got lucky with a lift quickly. seems like a good spot at first because drivers can see you from across the crossroads but cars are driving too fast here from the dual carriage way to slow safely, and cars turning from the perpendicular roads are mostly locals. try after the roundabout on the motorway or at the traffic lights before the clinic to the south.

if youre leaving tuam (direction galway) from this roundabout then hitch on the N83 exit instead of the motorway entrance. cars are more likely to stop for you along this road than the motorway, and its generally safer and youre more likely to get a lift quicker. i got a ride here in two minutes in the middle of november even though it was almost dark.

walked north west along the ennis road with my thumb out and a sign for Galway. i got a lift just before the roundabout all the way to Tuam. most people driving to galway or ennis will leave limerick along this road and theres plenty of space along this road for cars to pull over with the bike lane and cars are going slow.

there is not a lot of long distance traffic except for people leaving the airport after their flights. most of the drivers are locals or airport staff. i think immediately after a flight comes in is good, but you might have better luck talking to people on your flight or outside the terminal. still its definetly doable, i got a lift nearly to mainz early in the morning not long after the first or second flight arrived. if your flight is late and you dont want to hitch at night there are plenty of good spots for camping nearby as well.

Few cars passing by frequently, but I think you have to be really lucky to get a lift to Brno here. Most drivers are maybe not going the whole way, it felt like a lot of rural traffic, so maybe more success without a sign. On the bright side, plenty of space for drivers to pull in, and very visible all along this road. Can also hitch from the on slip before the motorway sign - legal and visble and space to pull over. Also worth talking to drivers at the mcdonalds or the bagetterie or filling station across the road.

We got a lift to Prague an hour after being dropped here on a Sunday. Talking to drivers or truckers is necessary, there was at least 11 when we passed through. Traffic driving by is going too fast so unless they're already pulling over to the truck stop you wont have luck signing them to slow. Would avoid getting dropped here in future though, felt like we got lucky after an hour and could have been there all night.

during the daytime carrick usually has about a kilometre of traffic going into it from the west. you should ask your driver to let you out and then walk alongside the queue of cars into town with yr thumb, a sign and a big smile and see if anybody waves you over. handy way to pass the stroll into town and better than sitting in traffic

i hitched in here yesterday evening to camp at a nearby beach. got my lift out walking down the road with a sign for the n25. its the kind of town youll be stuck hours in, i wouldnt hitch here unless youve got a way back guaranteed, but there is the lovely Goat Island beach nearby for wildcamping, about 45 minutes walk from town.

drivers going to galway rarely pull into kinnegad rest stop so dont bother asking there or at this roundabout for lifts - if u end up here otw to galway better to find a ride on the m4 to mullingar or edgeworthstown and then go to athlone, see more of the nice countryside and usually fast getting a ride to galway from athlone

Good spot but not a lot of drivers going to Brno, talk to truckers or drivers outside the McDonalds or sign just after the drive thru so you get people in a good mood after eating :) Everyone we talked to was very friendly, it helps if you speak in czech to them, but yeah, not a lot of traffic to Brno on a weekday. We thumbed here with a sign for Leipzig for ~2hrs and didn't a lift. Its 's a difficult place for cars to stop and also on a wednesday there was pretty much only local drivers. Maybe on a nicer day or in the summer its a better but we had no luck. Later we went to the rasthof near nikolassee and got a hitch in 30 minutes!
