First person I asked took me to Ljubljana. He bought me a chocolate croissant. Easy.

Pretty great spot for heading East or West. So much traffic and there’s a place where people can pull off into. Got a ride to Wien/Vienna in 20 mins.

Nice spot if you’re trying to get into Munich. I had a local pickup and took me 40 min to the other side of the city. Was very nice. Idk if ppl need a good spot to get inside the city but hope this helps.

Very chill spot. Right by the entrance to the highway and right next to a shopping plaza where people can pull. The locals are very friendly, always smiling and waving at you. Hitchhiked pretty late too, 6 pm on a Thursday. Was heading to Munich.

I think location is generally good, especially going south (I was going East). Lots of traffic on a Wednesday at 4:00 pm. I was standing in the bus lane near traffic. The bus comes infrequently when I was there so it should be fine, just be careful since traffic is going fast. Giving it 3 stars because my experience went a bit rough. First hour had a sign that said “Ost” (East) and looked like a mess, it didn’t work. Changed my sign to “A3 Wurzberg” and cleaned up a bit, had 3 cars stopped and finally had one take me to a service station (better loco for going east).

Got a ride instantly at the Shell and asking the first person. Got a ride to Regensburgs. I got really lucky I think. Pretty normal place for hitchhikers, I met a few. Not much traffic though for a 6 pm on a Wednesday.

Pretty great spot. The average speed of traffic here is a little fast but not so much where it could obstruct the visibility of the drivers. Lot’s of room to pull into. I got a ride within a few minutes with locals that dropped me off at a rest stop near the border. Had a big, big sign saying “Berlin”. I tried the other hh place down the road but there was a bus parked there for some reason so I moved.

Chill spot. Stood right in front of the gas station with a sign saying “Croatia”. Bosnian family was really nice. They gave me honey.

Probably the best spot in Rijeka. Narrow roads with not a lot of room to pull off. Pretty good to get out of the city. Had a sign for “Senj” and I was taken outside to a better spot.

Very good spot. Lot’s of traffic flowing here and there’s a bus stop here where people can pull into. 2 people with a sign going to Rijeka. Had a trucker pick us up and he makes metal music. Pretty cool dude.

Great spot, a lot of traffic. I met a fellow hitchhiker and we both were hitchhiking to Pula with signs. 30 min laters an Italian dude took us to Bale. He was really nice and gave us some devil’s lettuce haha. Lot’s of plates from Germany, and Czech from what I remember.

Not a bad spot. Two hitchhikers and we had one sign. It’s a small town and traffic was decent for a Sunday. Probably not the best destination drop off.

I would say this loco is okay. Not too much traffic. Maybe because it was a Sunday. Funny enough, I got a ride to Frankfurt because someone was going to church. Stood on the sidewalk positioned towards the exit of Frankfurt.

Not a great spot. I guess people who come here are doing short distances. I wanted to get to Frankfurt and had a sign but no luck. I changed it to Ost and after half n hour someone offered to take me towards the direction of Frankfurt because he was dropping his mom off the airport in Luxembourg and returning back home. Then he was nice and took me only about 40 mins outside the city of Frankfurt. If you can find another place to hitchhike avoid this place unless you have no choice.

Pretty good spot lots of traffic coming. Got a ride straight to Luxembourg. Took a long time though which kinda make sense since its far. I started on a Friday afternoon. Also there was construction happening on the curve.

Pretty decent spot. Got a ride within a hour to Brussels with some dudes that work in Ghent but lives there. I recommend a big sign so people can see you since traffic here is fast. Just be patient and you’ll get a ride eventually.

Hitchhiked back in the beginning of August. Honestly I would advise hitchhiking or getting dropped off here unless you really have to. It’s not the worst spot in the world but there’s not too much traffic that flows out of this small town. I wanted to get to Brugge and some German dudes that were traveling to France saw me and went out of their way to take me to Brugge since it’s only about an hour away. I got pretty lucky here. Was holding a sign.

Had a sign that said “Croatia” and got a ride within 5 minutes. Good direction towards the coast of Slovenia and Croatia. There’s a road where people can turn in and everyone is not going that fast. It’s the last part of the road before all the traffic goes on highway.

Hitchhiked back in Aug 1st. I didn’t wait too long but it was extremely sunny so be careful. I was pretty lucky since a Scottish/Polish family was doing a roadtrip from Scotland to Poland. They were able to add me as a passenger onto the Eurotrain very seamlessly, free of charge. So I was able to cross the English channel and make it to Dunkirk. It was a great start to my hitchhiking adventure :D.

My first hitchhike of the journey and I couldn’t ask for a better ride. Had a Scottish/Polish family doing a road trip from Scotland all the way to Poland and was able to take me across the channel. They were able to add me as an additional passenger on the Eurostar when crossing. This was back on Aug. 1st so you see a lot of families taking holidays.

Probably the best spot in all of Kosice. All the traffic is funneled through this single lane road and people are driving slowly. Lots of traffic as well. My piece of advice, DO NOT ACCEPT A RIDE TO THE BORDER. Multiple people will stop and offer you a ride there. I accepted one and was stuck hitchhiking around there for an entire day. There is no traffic around the border town or the rest stops around there. I even tried hitchhiking on the highway and it didn’t work. I eventually had to get a ride back to Kosice by night time, and camped in the fields behind the small town. I was able to charge my batteries in the hotel near this spot, they were super nice. Next morning, I hitchhiked and waited around an hour for then a family offering to take me halfway to Budapest since they were going to Hungary for a little day trip vacay. So yeah moral of the story is just be patient. The locals and everyone around there is super nice and you’ll eventually get picked up. Make sure that you choose a decent rest stop or city as your drop-off point because beginning part of Hungary is pretty rural. Thanks for reading my ted talk and happy hitchhiking y’all :D

Might be the best spot you can get. Not a lot of people going to the gas station but you can stand near the safety lane near entryway of the road and capture the attention of the drivers on the highway. Idk if it’s that effective though since people there are driving relatively fast. I tried for an hour and a half then tried the McDs. I met a fellow hitchhiker there by coincidence and we were just talkin and chillin. He even bought me a cheeseburger. We ended up going back to the gas station and both hitchhiked together (I wanting to go to Balton and he wanted to go to Bratislava). After 20 minutes or so a lady who works in Budapest and lives in Balton offered to take me and host me for a night. Honestly one of the best rides in my life so far. Long story short maybe best to hitchhike during rush hour as it worked for me lol. But just be patient and make sure to have a big, big sign. If you need cardboard ask the gas station, they gave us some.

Honestly, not the worst spot in the world. It serves as good mid-point between Croatia/Slovenia. Hitchhiked there around 11 AM on a Wednesday. Not a lot of traffic but it started picking up a bit in a few hours. Opposite to what everyone on here was saying, most people were going to Croatia and I wanted to go to Slovenia haha. Luckily a truck driver noticed me and told me to come with and took me all the way to Slovenia (my first truck ride heheh). Went an unusual route and went through Croatia then Slovenia instead of going directly through Slovenia (his end destination was Italy). I waited in front of the gas station with my sign saying “Slovenia”.

Pretty easy I got there with a sign “BLED”. I didn’t hitchhike at the bus stop though there was just too much commotion with elementary kids, teenagers, and what have you. So I just hitchhiked before the traffic light and had high visibility. However the sun is so hot and barring so be careful.

Good place to get dropped off here and hitchhiked. Asking ppl may work here but I tried and all their cars were full or I was brushed off. I waited by the exit and after like 20-30 min some dude offered me a ride straight to Budapest. Good spot as a midway point to Budapest.

Stuck my thumb out for 5 seconds and easily got a ride. It’s a nice small town with beautiful nature and I camped on the river the previous night no problem.

Idk I don’t think it’s the best spot but it’s okay. Small gas station, though there is lots of traffic on the road. You can try asking ppl at the gas station but it didn’t help me. There are free bathrooms. A lot seems to be locals or some not heading to far. I wanted to go East to the Tatras and luckily a guy turned back and offered to make since he was on holiday and heading towards there.

Great spot. Lots of traffic. Only waited 5 mins and had a guy signal me to get into his car while stopped at the traffic light. Got all the way to Zilina. We took the backroads too so it was beautiful.

Had a local take me to the rest stop near the Mondsea. An interesting spot, lots of traffic and it’s an intersection so people can pull in easily. Would def recommend heading to the Mondsea if you have no luck at this spot. Also the sun is beaming at you in the summer so just be aware haha.

This spot is decent. Small rest area but plenty of people stopping there. Had a guy take me to Salzburg because he was returning back home. Might not be the best spot though because again it’s kind of small.

Pretty good place to start your hitchhike out of the city. I was trying to head East and local was able to take me to road stop near by. I had 2 locals stop as well.

After reading the comments idk I guess this place is just a hit or miss. Got here around 6 PM and tried asking around a bit, stood by the exit, and stood in front of the gas station for about 3 1/2 hours and had no luck. The place is beautiful though so I camped by the lake and tried again next morning. Next morning I waited another 3 hours until someone offered to take me near Wien/Vienna. There was a good amount of people in the morning but idk they didn’t really care to see or look at me lol. So yeah I think my luck was dwindling and you might have a better experience than me. I think it’s still worth to hitchhike here as one of the primary spots people stop at and head towards east potentially.

Very chill spot with gas station and McDonalds next to the highway towards Eastern Europe. Givin it 4 stars since there wasn’t a lot of people on a Sunday around 9 AM. Lots of local plates but I got very lucky with a family go to swim near Bratislava, where in which I wanted to go. Probably help’s askin around too.

Spot close to the “ Staumauer Sylvensteinspeichersee”. I think it’s as good as you can get being close to the bridge and not having to walk far. I wanted to go towards Karwendel. I tried using my thumb for the first 30 mins and it didn’t work. Used my sign sayin “Karwendel” and 30 mins more someone came and dropped me closer to the direction of it. Hitchhike as early as you can because I believe a lot of people go towards there in the morning since they wanna do whatever weekend/daily activity.

Pretty much the only spot to reach any of the spots in Karwendel. It’s a nice spot, a large area where people can pull into and people aren’t driving that fast. I probably choose the worst time to hitchhike at 4 pm. Some people there told me that usually people come in the morning and do their weekend/day activity and go back home since no one lives there. Hitchhike as early as you can otherwise you will most likely have a rough time. If you get unlucky there’s a guesthouse/restaurant right across and some woods on the other side that looks like you maybe be able to camp (idk though). I got pretty lucky since a couple was siting in the outdoor area at a restaurant and felt bad seeing that I was still stuck hitchhiking. They already paid for the toll but they were so nice that they were willing to go back in just for me. Leads me to my other point, (here’s also a toll fee too so be advised. Hope this helps.

Great place. Right before the Shell so people can pull in easily. Locals are very nice.
