Canberra is quite tricky to hitch from since right beside the road you have cyclist path (on which cars cannot stop) and wooden poles that block the potential pull up spots. I hitched from this bus bay next to the tram stop to Sydney.―CarlitosPL

Going south, this is your best spot. Public transpot will get you within a kilometer of here, though with Canberra's odd layout, it can be a bit confusing. (Having a map will help.)―Anonymous

I left here on a Sunday morning with the intention to bypass Sydney. I stood with a sign that said 'Syd' on it just to get going. There is a turning lane just after this spot that cars can pull in to, but the traffic starts to speed up after the lights.I waited here for over 30min until someone stopped. I'd suggest waiting before the lights, or asking people at the Caltex Service Station.
