Good spot it was easy to get a ride, but the driver was pretty suspicious. There are a lot of police checkpoints on the road to Cayenne.

Everyone was asking us where we were going and if everything was okay. People were genuinely concerned but wary. That’s normal because on this stretch of the road in French Guiana, it’s common to have your vehicle pulled over by people who ask you to stop. Please note that the federal police office where you get your exit stamp is located in the city, not at the bridge. I don’t know where it is on the French side (since I’m French, I didn’t need to go there).

Getting to Oiapoque isn't easy. Very few people take this route. People use what are called “piratas” there (a concept very similar to “collectivos”) or buses. The only way we found to get there was to negotiate with a pirata for a free ride until he found people willing to pay to go there. Luckily, there was no one else on the road, which allowed us to go there directly.

Good spot for hitchhiking. Most of the cars are going directly in Cayenne direction
