From Rio de Janeiro (the capital) you should take a bus to Petrópolis and just from here try to hitch a ride.. coz as everybody can imagine, do it on the border of the capital is not a good idea. it sounds like impossible and.. dangerous.the people from Petrópolis told me they use to see people hitchhiking here sometimes.. and the road is really good and as it's up in a mountain, they pass by here slowly..
and there's a police station near.
i got a ride easily.

Every time I hitch back to Juiz de Fora from Rio I take the bus to Petropólis. But, some people told me that exists a good point near a pike, just outside of Rio―Anonymous

I followed this instructions on november 2013 and got a ride to Juiz de Fora in less than 10 minutes. Got off the bus just after the Fragoso toll, and walked some meters until I found a good spot next to the road. Really easy.―Lolangarros

HOW TO GET HERE:take a bus from Central do Brasil (Rio de Janeiro) to Vila Canaã (border of Duque de Caxias), and ask to get off it in the toll.
there\\'s a Federal Police next to that toll (the cars go too fast there, anyway i got a ride in less than 20minutes. maybe it\\'ll be easier to you if you take a bus to Petrópolis and start hitchhiking from there. but the bus is like 10reais more expensive -not too much, but you can drink like 3 bottles of beer with the difference hahah-)

Take a bus 100 (dir. Terminal Bingen) from the rodoviaria in the city center and go until the end of the line (2,80 reais). The highway is just in front of the terminal. It's not a very safe place, the road has many turnings and there's no point walking up the road because there are no safer spots anywhere nearby. Our driver pulled over just because nobody would probably stop in such a dangerous place.―Anonymous
