Lots of traffic, and space for cars to stop. Accessible by the city bus 388 from the center of Rio for 5 R$. Our host invited us to do jet ski!!―Anonymous

My tip is to pay attention to the car plates, to see where are they going. I asked several times for a ride to cars with São Paulo - SP or cities around São Paulo plates, but I could only get a ride with someone from Londrina - PR. If the car is in Rio and it's going to Paraná, it is most likely that he will pass thorugh São Paulo to get there. It worked for me!―Diegocamposbraga

Pedágio Viúva Graça (toll plaza). Good spot for hitching to São Paulo. You can get here by bus 193C from the bus terminal next to Central Station (metro Central). Starts from platform D, spot no. 07. Hitch slightly further away from toll booths, there is a bus stop to pull over, restaurant and supermarket.―Anonymous

Posto Novo Pedagio, you can get to this gas station by bus 193C from the bus terminal next to Central Station. It's a small gas station, but some trucks and cars stop, you can hitchhike to São Paulo.―Anonymous

There's a gas station here, it isn't a very goo place to hitchhike but when i'm going from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo this is where I hitchhike. To get here you can take the train that goes to Japeri in the central station in Rio de Janeiro, it costs less than 4 reais.
You'll leave the train in queimados, after that you can walk for 30 minutes to this place or catch a bus. I prefer to walk.
Theres a gas station 5 Km ahead that is a great place to get rides with truckers, if someone ofers you a ride until there, acept it.
Other option is to go there by bus.

There's a service station and a Bob's in here. This is a good spot as it is already common among students from the Rural University of Rio de Janeiro to come and hitchhike in here towards Sao Paulo. You know, where people are used to see students hitchhiking is always a place with higher chances to get a ride.To get here you can take the bus 193c from the central station in Rio de Janeiro and ask to get off at Bob's (if he/she doesn't know where it is, just say it's the next gas station after the toll booth in the exit of the city).
