There is a Petro-Canada Gas Station at the exit of Dorval Terminal where many cars stops before leaving Montreal

Very nice spot. Cars have time to see you and loads of space to stop

Quite a neat spot, though I had to wait a bit over an hour, which is longer than Quebec average for me. Maybe beacuse I started on the morning of Canada Day.

Easy to get to, $3 bus ride from the centre of Montreal. Great place to pull over, long straight stretch to get noticed from far, as though it was meant for hitching. Not so much traffic though.

Second time we get lucky here. It was dark, we thought it wouldn't work. Only 15min and someone drove us straight to Ottawa

Found it nearly impossible to hitch anywhere closer to the city, and here you are more likely to find cars that are leaving the island. We waited outside a gas station at the intersection, about 15-20 minutes.

C'était impossible pour trouver un ride plus proche à la ville-- ici, il y a plusieurs voitures qui vont sortir l'isle de Montréal. Nous avons attendus à une station d'essence, au feu tricolore, pour 15-20 minutes.

Even better than the one the wiki site is giving. Same way to get (local buses for 2-3$) there but keep walking over the bridge (there is a bike lane). Look on your left and that's it.
It's pretty easy to get there climbing the fence at the junction with the bridge (i've done this with my 20kg backpack)
Perfect spot and your should have more cars than the previous one.
Got a ride toward Ottawa pretty quickly

One of the few places in Montreal, easily accessible via bus (179 from L'Acadie Station), where you'll find a freeway entrance with a large shoulder. Good trafic, but often not going that far.
