I began hitchhiking to Cali from here in 2015. It tooke a further two days to reach Cali, read about it on my [blog here](http://www.hobospirit.com/hitchhiking-from-medellin-to-cali/)

Toll north of Medellin, to get there take the Metro de Medellin and get off at the last station called Niquuia, then take a bus to the toll, I did it in 2008 with good results, did not reach my final destination was Cartagena but forward enough and I left another good place to hitchhike.

This is actually the same as the spot a few kilometres down west at the toll collect station. Someone brought us here in order to only have the vehicles passing by which are definitely going north at the Panamericana Road. It took us (two guys) almost two hours until we almost gave up before someone took us for a two hour ride. Hitchhiking here is feasable but it takes its time.

Setting: We were two guys going to Cartagena. One guy looked Latin like, another one obvious foreigner.

Now: This is the place where the 2nd peaje (toll collect station) is where all the cars and trucks are passing. Don't try to walk there as it is mentioned in the description of Medellin, it would take you hours! Take a bus from the final metro stop Niquia to there and tell them to drop you off at this place. There is also a Esso gas station just after that. We found it general pretty hard to get a ride and we only found someone by talking to him while filling up. Hitchhiking in Colombia is not really fun I think. We didn't make very far and had to take a bus later. This is always a good option when you get stuck somewhere as they stop wherever you stand. So you need definitely time and patience.

Buen lugar para esperar camiones en la ruta a Bogota, hay una estacion de servicio antes de un puente peatonal donde esperar.

Best location for South towards Cali, three petrol stations and room for cars to pull in. Get off the metro at La Estrella continue south and walk up the hill.

Didnt wait that long but be sure to be picky with your ride. Took me a while because I kept getting rides down the road and there arent many great spots along the way.

Ahi empecé mi camino hasta Armenia, con dos amigas demoramos aproximadamente 12 horas en llegar hasta nuestro destino final.
