Both directions (Chania or Rethymno)Definitely not a good spot :
1/greek people are suspicious and don't stop often
2/ this road is the more dangerous of all greece, and it's even more dangerous to make the cars stoping here
Try to avoid people that would let you at this spot (if they go to Kalyves, refuse gently).

I was living in Chania for one year, so I have tried this spot several times and it always worked!(but hey- I'm a lady traveling alone)
once I did it with two friends (one man, one woman) and we managed to find a ride in less than an hour.
So, I don't think it's that bad. I'd say, average...

I've never seen more dead place to hitchhike. Noone stops (3 hours of waiting). Direction Heraklion.―Anonymous
