There is a good number of people climbing the mountain (especially on weekends) and it's fairly easy to hitch back from the parking area near the temple back to Aso town. People will know you are a traveller without a car who just came here to climb the mountain, so they won't have any worries. A tip for climbing: follow the path going left and climb the rocky route to the top first (it is well marked with yellow arrows), make a circle clockwise and make your way down by following the paved route near the old cable car station.―Anonymous

Solo white woman. Had a sign for Takachiho as I planned to stop there omw to Oita. The driver who picked me up was stopping there and going to Aso so I went all the way to this point with him―Bellatrix
