Entered the northbound service area very easily through the translucid sliding exit door (big 出口 in red) by the road. Good way to get to Nagano from Kofu city.

Great for leaving Tokyo to Kofu, I was going to the Minami Alps via the Kofu Station bus the next day.

Right after the toll there is a place to pullover. The toll halts the traffic, and the visibility is OK. Sign saying Tokyo. Ride in 7 minutes with a really cool dude who took me all the way to central Tokyo. He even spoke a little english! There is a bus from the theme park to Tokyo, it's 2200 Yen or somthing if this fails.

There is an ok place to pullover here and decent traffic, but it was very frustrating. I tried signs saying Tokyo, mt Fuji and gotemba, but people often gave the bs hand gestures saying they where going short distance, even though all cars where going in a useful direction and a short ride would have taken me out of the middle of knowhere and back to civilisation. They don't seem to understand the concept of a partial ride. Fujiyoshida would probably be a better thing to write on your sign, from there there is a good hitch spot to Tokyo.

Eventually got a ride to fujiyoshida with a nice elderly gentleman who was cool. He didn't entirely understand what Google translate was which made conversation a Challenge.

A good spot to get from the Fuji area backt to the expressway at the coast. Easily accessible with the blue sightseeing bus from Kawaguchiko and a 10 min walk. You can stand behind a road barrier with good visibility and a small road behind for cars to pull in. Also decent traffic on a Tuesday morning.

Was recommended to hitchhike from out the front of the shopping centre by locals. If you stand on the hill people can see you from the traffic lights and pull into the shopping centre carpark to pick you up. Got a lift all the way back to Tokyo after waiting about an hour
