You can’t hitchhike to Yamagata on this road. It’s the city centre and all the cars use the middle and 3rd lanes to go to Yamagata, and drive fairly fast. After this point shortly the road goes underground and there’s no other spot other than inside the city. I found it impossible to hitchhike, took the bus to Yamagata for 1200 ten.―Lee

Good spot for heading towards Sendai. There's a traffic light, the cars go fairly slowly because they have to turn and there should be plenty of space to stop. Also easily accessible I think―Anonymous
