Walked form the nearest station in theory it's not a bad place to hitch out from headed west, I flew a sign until a bus driver with an empty bus smoki g a cigarette asked me if hamamatsu would be good enough , and I ended up there where granted I couldnt get a ride before sundown , but still it resulted in a nice week of beach bumming before I went back to tokyo. There is a cart with cardboard behind the convenience store you can use to make a sign. For best results stand on the manhole cover towards the exit lanes closest to the station as people with animals or smokers will often Inquire upon your situation as was my case.―Stretch

Right after the toll there is a place to pullover. The toll halts the traffic, and the visibility is OK. Sign saying Tokyo. Ride in 7 minutes with a really cool dude who took me all the way to central Tokyo. He even spoke a little english! There is a bus from the theme park to Tokyo, it's 2200 Yen or somthing if this fails.―Bardthetortoiseslayer

Within 10 minutes, someone walked up to us and offered to take us all the way to Kyoto. It's a big place - don't go there too late though, or you'll mostly find cars with sarary men taking a nap.―Matsumoto Joe

Most drivers wouldn't look at me, or would just smile and go, the truck driver that gave me a ride told me that hitchhiking is not that common - he only took me because he was used to hitchhiking from Australia―Pax

The spot is really good. Lot's of cars, many people go to toilet or getting a snack. I got a ride after 45 mins. However, I was waiting in front of the exit. I experience it works out better waiting in front of the entrance of the convenient stores / food hall.―Anonymous

The spot was very good. It can be accessed very easily through a passage behind the convenience store and you won't be walking where cars drive. The station has everything, toilets, wifi, electrical plugs for charging your devices, Food etc.
I got picked up after one hour waiting time on a Monday. I started at 10am and got a lift at 11am.
It took me a total of 4 rides to get to Nagoya station and the drivers were always very respectful and curious why I'm hitchhiking in japan.
Tomorrow I'll continue hitchhiking to Osaka and after that to kumamoto, just to see how far I can go.
On this trip I never had any worries about unsafe road conditions, people being rude, not having food or a toilet. Everything was available all the time and it was a very good experience.

Great service area to get dropped off with lots of traffic. We spend the night there because it got late and there were multiple warm areas that are open 24 hours were we could sleep. Showers and laundry are also available. The next morning we immediately got picked up when somebody saw our sign :)―Anonymous

Was recommended to hitchhike from out the front of the shopping centre by locals. If you stand on the hill people can see you from the traffic lights and pull into the shopping centre carpark to pick you up. Got a lift all the way back to Tokyo after waiting about an hour―Adv
