I didn't have to wait, someone saw me walking with my sign and asked me where I wanted to go.From Nobeoka my goal was Fukuoka but I went step by step and I just told him Kurume.
He took me, and told me he took many hichhikers on that road.
I don't exactly where you wanna stand on that place, but it's a big roadway station so you should be fine. Just don't be afraid to go step by step.

Gas station and a adjoining road to the highway. A couple pulled over after 10 mins and took me a long way north. Almost all traffic is going towards Kitakyushu.―AK1204

Near by there is a bus stop where car can safely stop. I waited only 10 minutes. (going in direction of Koga)―Anonymous

It's a bad place because the lane leading to the high way is far away from footpath. There is no chance for anypne to stop―Anonymous

There is a service area somewhere around here (I think it was called Ishiyama). It is a nice spot and even if you are travelling from Nagasaki to Kumamoto (or vice versa) it's better if you go here. There is also an underpass and you can cross to the other side of the highway (the other service area).―Anonymous

So I was going down do Kyushu, idk how the other people got to this station, maybe they got dropped off there, but I had to pass a trail full of spiders and webs and then jump a fence to enter 💀 the fence is rather easy to jump but you need a stick to clear all the spiders, kinda felt like some Indiana Jones type of shit, so be prepared. Unless you’re doing it on 8th of September 2024 then I cleared all the creatures on that trail.Speaking of the spot itself, I was holding a Fukuoka sign, Caucasian male slightly tanned wearing an Osaka cap and probably 3 spider families on my backpack. First car stopped (approx 10 seconds of hitchhiking) going all the way to Nagasaki, so a win is a win.
You can actually watch me getting to the SA on my yt channel Polyglot Abroad if you want to see what getting there is like.

See hitchwiki; best spot to go out of Fukuoka. Waited 5 minutes at the end with a sign for Kumamoto, and got a car dropping me there. Easily reachable by tram.―Abibi
