Not many cars passing through the area from 6:00-9:00am, though many people approached me for fukuoka, so may be a good place to stop if you’re heading to fukuoka. I went to kagoshima-chuo after being dropped off at minamata station; nice driver bought me the ticket!―Du

I didn't have to wait, someone saw me walking with my sign and asked me where I wanted to go.From Nobeoka my goal was Fukuoka but I went step by step and I just told him Kurume.
He took me, and told me he took many hichhikers on that road.
I don't exactly where you wanna stand on that place, but it's a big roadway station so you should be fine. Just don't be afraid to go step by step.

I waited in Tosu interchange, and looked for a right car for cc. 1 hour. Finally a family looked me, and invited me to their car.―Anonymous

There is a service area somewhere around here (I think it was called Ishiyama). It is a nice spot and even if you are travelling from Nagasaki to Kumamoto (or vice versa) it's better if you go here. There is also an underpass and you can cross to the other side of the highway (the other service area).―Anonymous

Lots of cars were going north. I had a sign just for Kyushu. Got a,lift after 20 mins. Bit of a pain getting to this service area from hiroshima right now because there were road works so it was about a 1h walk from the tram.―Anonymous

Only waited 5 minutes at the petrol station before at truck driver came to me to drive me to the next rest area. You cang get there if you want to go to Kurume or Fukuoka―Anonymous
