Many people pass through this road as it connects to the free highway in the future. I had a very comfortable journey to Shirahige Tori

Write your destination on a piece of paper and there will definitely be a stop. You don't have to wait long as it is a famous road. Don't forget to buy supplies from 7-Eleven.

Good spot but not a large amount of people actually stopped here. Though, great as if someone does, they,re definitely going east. This is no good for going west.
To get into here by foot, you'll have to jump the fence, or if you're lucky like me, the backdoor was open :)

Okay, have now tried it going east, and it was easy. So for leaving Kyoto heading east, good spot - otherwise, avoid/

Going east might be different, but if you're going west there's really no good place to stand or for cars to stop. There's decent traffic, so it's doable, but I wouldn't recommend it if you can help it. Make sure you have a map with the next SA you want to get to with you that you can just point at, because the expressway branches crazily soon after this.

Big service area with access from Otsu station and thus Kyoto. Has a nice view of Lake Biwa.

Solo Caucasian Woman with a sign in Kanji for GIFU and an umbrella because it was raining. Hit the hitchhhiking rainbow and got a driver going all the way past my final destination so I went the whole way!!

Waited a bit for this one, about an hour. Going north towards Takashima. I waited near the exit for cars going west but the Lawson is on the opposite side of the road so not many cars.

Girl hitchhiking alone, two lovely women took me to Lake Otsu, they were going straight to Kyoto. Many people passing that station.
