Its an alright spot to get to the highway. If you're new to central asian hitchhiking this might be a cold start and you'll have to figure out the taxi thing, but you'll get used to it. Experience for us:Three cars stopped and the third gave us a ride. They said we had no chance of hitchhiking and tried to find someone for us at truck stops. They then treated us to plov and drove us to the 5 km to highway :)

Near the entrance of the sea port, there is a tiny cafe run by a woman named "Asia". It's the waiting place for all truck drivers coming from Azerbaijan by ferry and most of them are Turkish and Georgian, so speaking Turkish or Russian helps a lot. Ask these gentlemen nicely and you may find a direct ride all the way to Almaty. It will take you around 4 days however.―Anonymous

Great spot, lot of cars were stopping. We got ride to Beyneu, we paid around 10€ but you can definitely get a free ride as well, but in longer time.―Adam
