DIRECTION CHINA 🇨🇳 : To come here, you can take different buses (check 2GIS/Yandex) it should take 1h30+ from city center considering traffic in Almaty is chaotic.Here, cars and trucks will go either North either East. Personally, I have catch a small truck that was going East to Shelek and asked him to dropped me in the rest area before the town, so I could catch a longer ride. However, there is not a perfect spot but it will work. I waited almost an hour, trucks go too fast to stop.

We were two people and one bicycle hitching to Almaty. As soon as we were waiting at the street there where cars and truck stopping. A friendly truckdriver took us with all our bags and bicycle. He was super friendly!―Anonymous

looks like this is not bad position to start hitching to north direction, but in fact it's crowded by taxists and locals, I stood 1 hour and got nothing. but it's easy to get from Altyn-Orda bazaar (western enter of city) on 303 bus to busstop Promkombinat.―Anonymous

Good traffic and a lot of cars stop for us, but most of them asked for money. When we said "no money" they passed through. It took about an hour to move from this place and it was, I think, the twenty-fifth car who agreed to go without paying money.―Anonymous

Outside the gas station. Thumb out directly on road using sign as well. Good spot for east towards kegen, kaindy lake and Kyrgyzstan. A bit messy with slip roads etc by the side of a fast 2 lane road, but it worked as people pulled over in the slip road. Drivers where a shared taxi, spoke zero English but basic Russian worked. They wanted 4000t (7.50 EURO) to legend. I could have rejected but as it was getting dark and in a hurry I paid. Driver was honest and fun and waited with the foreign idiot.―Anonymous

Just by the seti entrance arch. With thumb, in rain, getting dark. After a few rejections a driver stopped. ItI was in a hurry so happy to pay, and I had been told the rate was 5000 (10 Euro) so offered him that. He accepted but said it was small. At the end of the ride a kazakh hitchhiker paid him 2000 ( they gave him 5000 and he gave 3000 Change. Either him saying my payment was small was sarcasm, or it's the usual ripoff for tourists. Still dngaf. Zero English and it was rainy af.
