Buses from Xalapa center to Banderilla can let you off right here. It's the road to Puebla and Mexico City, but the free one, so you're not likely to get a long distance ride. The spot is a good one, cars have tons of room to stop and can see you long before they get to you. Try to get one at least to Las Vigas, where you can easily get on the paid (cuota) road and hitch from a tollbooth (caseta). If you get stuck, an intercity bus from TRV company going further towards Las Vigas, Perote, and Teziutlan stops here.

Buses from Xalapa center to Banderilla stop about a 5-minute walk away. There's a traffic light right before the division between the free (libre) and paid (cuota) highways towards Puebla and Mexico City. If you're going long distance, the paid one would be better, but those going there would be in the inner, further lanes, so it can be hard to get a ride from here.―Anonymous
