We came on a ealy rainy day where you could not stand outside without getting soaked. Gas station personel helpes us out finding a ride but took 3 hours... gor a ride to the next intersection where we had mutch better luck.

You can take bus X12 (it is more like a mini van) to this destination which is a petrolstation. From here you can catch a ride to the national park. Make sure you say you want to go to turtle rock for example, because both the petrolstation attendant and my driver said I should go back towards Ulaanbaatar to get into the national park. My ride said he first wanted to get paid to bring me all the way to turtle rock, but after declining he said he was willing to take me halfway for free.

To go east (to Chengis Khan Statue or to the cities in the east) take the bus #27 and get off at the last stop. You will end up in a town and there is a gate (checkpoint). Go past this gate and start hitchhiking. It's one of the easiest places in the world.

You have to be prepared for the fact that most of the drivers will ask you to pay for the 'favour', but if you will wait long enough eventually you will catch a free ride.

If you get dropped off further from the center in UB, you can always try hitchhiking first. It's not like other big cities where it's impossible and you have to either walk or take a bus. People expect you to pay when you waive at cars though, so definitely explain yourself before getting in the vehicle.

Good spot for hitching out of Ulan Batar going south. There is a bus that goes all the way here. Many drivers will ask for money, but somebody will come that takes you for free.
