Traffic moves quickly but visibility is good. Plenty of space to pull over. A lot of local traffic but some long-distance traffic. I got a lift within an hour.

Just ask in the ferry lots of cars in it and most of them goes to İstanbul. It took less than 5 mins to find one.

Btter spot is maybe a couple of hundred meters further on, on the highway. The spot on the highway is good for rides south towards Izmir. Stand on the shoulder after the traffic lights. To get here it's a 45 minute walk from the city center. Try to hitch while walking - I got a lift to the highway, which saved me some sweat...

Many tourists coming by car from Izmir during summer. You can try and ask on the ferry as well.
