This is a really good place to hitch! Get off the bus right after the toll gates and hitch from the bus stop. Bus fare 42 pesos (May 2014). Took me only a couple of minutes to get a ride going to Punta del Este.―Veska

Waited there 3+ hours and gave up eventually. A better spot might be 1-2 km further up the road.―Platschi

Waited about 20 min (in a couple male+female). There is no good position further up the road as a highway starts soon.―Anonymous

Going from Montevideo to the east, this is the best spot to hitch hike.HOW TO GET HERE:
In Montevideo, you go to the bus stop in the corner of Minas and Paysandú, near to the Plaza de los Bomberos. There you can take the bus 711 (wich costed 40 uruguayos on octobre 2013) until "Peaje de Remanso de Neptunia", you walk a few meters after the toll and rise your thomb!

It's a spot I used when going to Montevideo. It's on the turn to some houses. Although it doesn't have a lot of space for cars to stop it's after the turn which a lot of people take. When I tried just after roundabout but it didn't work so good even with a planty of space to stop.―Anonymous
