I found a ride to Thônex, right before Genève, but waited for 40min - I think most of the people passing don't drive as far as Genève or go south to Annecy. You can wait under the trees in the shadows and there's a good place to stop on the right. The cars also drive slowly because of the traffic from the people turning left to the gas station.
