The place can be messy but it's the easiest reable on foot, just be patient and make clear you're hitch-hiking. Got a ride by an off-duty taxi going to Kutaisi airport for a pick-up, I got off at the exit of the highway and hitched directly there for the next ride to Tbilissi.

Got a ride to the last petrol station before the split Burgas-Turkey.

Lucky ride to Inegöl 30min. before dawn.

Not such a good spot anymore due to the economical crisis, most cars take the other road you don't need to pay for. All the trucks have to stop to wheight their load, many made signs they were going out before Istanbul. Any stopped despite their traffic is almost continuous. Got a car ride to Istanbul after an hour.

Police don't let you HH where the cars and trucks lanes merge and ask you to go to the Shell petrol station where a lot of people wander around. Choose your lane regarding traffic and try to HH before the mosque so they don't see you, it should work better. In general a sign to Edirne to get out of the border asap is a good strategy.

Kind of the only decent spot towards Bulgaria, police spend a lot of time here just as locals for coffee. I've been trying for 3h until night with the little traffic from the petrol station (police was there) and 4h straight on the highway the next morning with a sign BG - СРФИЯ. Most cars were completely full, I left with a big beer box under my legs and my backpack on my knees, that was the only room available in the car, but I made it to Sofia.

Traffic is slowing down because of the "vignette" toll and enough place for card to trucks to stop for a good 500m. Off season better to accept rides only to Plovdiv/turkish border.

Got a ride to Niš.

Not too bad spot, with enough visibility and place for a car to stop after the off ramp. Got a ride to a petrol station 30km away and after the toll.

Good spot with enough traffic for both ways, got a ride to Belgrade after an hour.

Little traffic, just like all the petrol station along this highway. Got offered a ride from a turkish truck driver to the last petrol station before serbian border. The old building is still there.

Until the road becomes a highway a 1km further all spots of the avenue are even, just take the one you feel comfortable with. I chose this one because traffic is a bit spreaded and cars aren't going too fast thanks to the gas station begind. Two lanes and enough space for a car/small truck to pull over on the on ramp.

Most traffic is going to Burgas. Got stuck here all sunday afternoon + monday morning. Cars are full, I asked to truck drivers but all declined until one drive me tl little before Svilengrad. For Turkey better to wait longer to get a direct ride from Sofia/Plovdiv.

Got stuck here a whole sunday plus a good hour on monday morning before I get a ride to Zagreb airport. Little traffic, mostly local, all cars with croatians plates were either packed or not caring at all. If you come from Maribor, better to stick to the traffic light in Hoče.

Accepted a ride to the next gas station after two hours on a sunday morning, next time I'll stay here.

Got offered a ride to Maribor when walking to this point from the city center with a SLO sign sticked on my backpack. The guy told me there is several thousand Slovenians commuting to Graz everyday.

A bit so so since there were roadworks, but cars aren't going fast and a car can pull over, took the first ride to a gas station 10km away.

Got offered a ride to Wels, Austria while filling up water in the bathroom... big station with a lot of traffic.

Low traffic in early morning, got a lucky ride to Austria. I've seen mostly local plates and several german ones, I've been told that people going to Strasbourg from Metz prefer to take the free motorway through Nancy.

Long to reach, just like all the good spots to get out of Paris. I also had three offers for a ride to Meaux, which can be interesting since cars have to cross the toll to get there.

I was a bit after the curve with a sign Bursa and then Gemlik, I waited about an hour and a half before the most beaten car stops thanks to the sign.
