In the afternoons you can easily catch a ride from Switzerland to the villages on the French side with cross border commuters, but the other direction is difficult. And the other way around in the mornings.
Did not work towards Berlin. But usually you can frequently see hitchhikers here. We changed to Hellerberge on-ramp which is clearly the better choice.
Did not work for going south. Most cars here go straight over the highway crossing that is close by towards Poland and do not turn south towards Dresden. Eventually we walked one hour to Ragow and caught a ride there.
To go from Montauban towards Paris but (other than me) you would rather take rides that go further than just the next village along the highway (it was difficult to get away from there) ... really try to get on the highway to do petrol station hitchhiking.
Ride right to Barcelona, it would have been most convenient for me to jump out of the car on the highway in the city center. I guess the driver felt like it was more safe for them to drive further into their neighborhood to let me leave the car - I agreed.
Somehow I ended up walking along the normal street next to the highway. Was stopped and fully checked by police when they saw me. I lost like 10 min like this, well they also did not want to take me with them to the next gas station. Eventually some guy picked me up.
Bad spot eastwards. Too many Ubers here. Eventually youth football coach picked me up to get me away from there. I guess he also did a little detour to bring me to a good gas station to go further towards Zaragosa.
Walked here from Donostia. Caught a ride before the police arrive that the gas station lady pretended to have called. 2 male drivers who were on their way to watch deer in the mountains ... I also joined them for this. But they were mainly speaking Basque.
Didnt work for me at all. Took a train to Basauri. You might think this is a popular on-ramp but I guess there is just too much variation in where the cars are going so getting from there to Donostia was not posssible for me.
People here were a little hostile to hitchhiking thinking it was illegal. A family with kids told me they had no space in their car although there clearly was.
Walked out here to eventually catch a ride out the city. As it was late, the lady invited us to pitch our tent in her garden. She had a husband and young kids and they served us French cheese.
Asked around towards Girona. Tried to sleep in the nearby forest - cant recommend because of wild boars. Driver was smoking cannabis, a bit of a desperate move on our side.
Walked out here from Tarragona. Also it was not possible to get a ride here from Tarragona. No chance going to Valencia. This is where we learned that hitchhiking in Spain can be horrible.
Caught a ride with a seasonal worker working at the sea in summer and in the mountains in winter. One of my all time favorite rides. Good music good company.
Eventually we thumbed at the road behind the toll station. For us asking around at the parking lot did not work for going towards Bern. The guy said he had to recharge his Karma after making it through the border control.
