Heading to the UK. Saw a bunch of UK plates when I arrived, but they didn't have space or weren't going across the channel or just weren't fun enough to take hitchhikers. Waited along the wall next to the shop with a sign "direction Calais?" for 2 hours, but got nowhere, though I saw a few more UK plates. Then moved to the far end, at the exit onto the motorway, and got a lift within 20 minutes with a very kind person who went an hour out of their way to drop me on the road to Calais.―Wienerpolser

Heading to the UK. Didn't have a good time here. Spent 3 hours alternating between the exit road, the shop entrance, and walking round and asking people. Literally no-one said they were going towards Brussels, most people seemed to be going north, and there were lots of Dutch plates. Got offered one lift to Antwerp, and then eventually a guy driving to Spain offered me a lift to Brussels, though it turned out he wasn't driving to Brussels at all so I got out at Mons...―Wienerpolser

A decent spot going south or east. Maybe I got lucky, but I quickly found a car going in my direction (Dunkerque).―martih

As always a good spot. I was waiting for a British car, but very few came through, so I opted for a nice pair of French guys.―martih

Had a sign indicating E42 to Cologne, had my first offer in 5 minutes but she was going west. A friendly German couple offered a bit later, said they hitched a lot when they were young. I stood at the exit by the no parking except service vehicles sign to catch all cars (not trucks) as they exit. Beware what looks like a driveway is actually a local road and sees a lot of traffic.―Streamrider

Usually a good spot if you want to go to Valenciennes (everyone seemed to be going there) and further down to Paris. I wanted to go to Lille though and it took me a full 3 hours to find someone. I did find a right directly to my destination though, they even did a detour for me, so that was super sweet. It was pretty late at that point (I waited from 7 to 10 pm so I imagine that it was getting late might have toggled a little pity)―thebeekeeper

Maybe my Liège sign was a bit optimistic because nearly everyone was going to Bruxelles. Eventually got a ride to Namur.―Arphile

Was standing at onramp with a sign for Liège but visibility was not great, I ended up moving to the roundabout before the gas pumps, reverted to my BE sign and I got a ride past Mons in like 5 minutes.―Arphile

We tried to signal with the thumb at the exit, then asked around, then returned back and signaled for longer. Alot of people are going only to town right next to it. It was really hot outside today so it was hard, but eventualy great guy took us beyond Mons.―Kromicz

Found a car in the direction of Mons, France pretty fast by asking around. A lovely person too that gave me control of the aux.―thebeekeeper

The first car I asked was a lovely Parisian family who took me to the suburbs of Paris from here.―anettlee17

More people going to the Netherlands than Liège but I still found a ride there in under 30 minutes. Even got approached back! Bonus points for the cute dog I got to have on my lap (not reflected in the rating.)―thebeekeeper

The door was not open, but you can follow the wall/fence until it ends, climb down a small hill towards the autoroute and then jump the (second, smaller) fence. Sounds more complicated than it ended up being, the fence is even a little bent down and there's trees to help. Lots of local cars but I still found people going through Lille to Mons within 15 minutes. Would definitely recommend this spot to get out of Paris to the North.―thebeekeeper
