Arrived after sunset, the second guy I asked drove me straight to Aachen―Anonymous

Not a bad spot for Eupen or Liege (Lutych). It was raining a bit, so I hid under a small roof at a nearby car shop and just peeked out when a car was approaching. There is an Aldi nearby, if you need to resupply or need a sign.―Anonymous

Not a bad spot towards Liege (Lutych). There is a small gas station, where you can ask around, while you can hitchhike with just a sign from the same spot. Medium traffic, and a decent place to stop.―Anonymous

This place is counterintuitive, or I just got lucky, but I was exhausted and in a not-so-great mood, so I desperately wanted to get out of Germany. So I got a sign saying BE, and it took just a couple of minutes to get a ride to the small town of Kelmis in Belgium.―Anonymous

I made a mistake and trusted my driver that this would be a good place. It was not. I tried standard hitchhiking, but soon realized that there is too heavy traffic for that here. So I started asking at the gas station, and that worked after some time.―Anonymous

Right now the roundabout is closed due to construction. If youre heading to Köln i reccomend taking the 52 bus from the city centre to the gas station on autobahn 4. Its like 10 minutes.―stepanfoj

Not a lot of people going to Köln, but you can get to Aachen pretty quickly and go from there. There is space to stop but not that many cars going through.―stepanfoj

Not that much space to stop but the brave drivers do. Was here on a sunday afternoon so not a lot of traffic still got a ride pretty quick to a small belgian town behind the border.―stepanfoj

Not that much traffic, but it was a sunday. Still got a lift to Aachen very quick. Good spot, lots of trucks, and a few belgian cars.―stepanfoj

I agree with another comment, doesn't feel like an ideal place to wait - not to much space for cars to pull over―wazkort

Steady trickle of cars late at night on a Saturday. Lots are local or going to Luxemburg. For getting to Liege you have to really ask them where they are going to find someone driving past Liege to let you out in the subburbs. Traffic to Paris, for example, is good.―Anonymous

On the road just outside the gas station is also a good spot. The highway onramp seems to be useless. On a saturday night, the only people stopping for me were going back to Aachen. Eventually I took a ride back to the border, used the pedestrian bridge to change sides, and hitch hiked to Liege.

A fairly bad spot for hitch hiking, but maybe the best spot in this tangled mess of highways around Düsseldorf. There is no place where you can stand and catch most of the traffic from the car garages, or the people going to the car garages, or people dropping off for departures. Car traffic for arrivals, departures, taxis, and valet service are all mixed together. Exhausting, but doable. Lots of local traffic but also lots of traffic for long distances in all directions.
Hold out for a good ride, if you get dropped off on the wrong side-highway there will be no traffic going further in the direction you want.
Take a few minutes to look for a better spot and report back. One of the remote parking garages might be good.
