Very good spot to go to East.People can see you from very far away, large shoulder for cars to pull over and everybody is passing on this road as it is basically the only one.
Got a ride super quickly to Sydney with a local that came to wild camp with me and took me to the ferry terminal the next day, amazing experience.

Got a ride to Saint John's on the ferry. People really kind, mostly older couples, every second person wanted to pick me up, but they were all going to Deer Lake, Corner Brooke or somewhere else. So I kept asking and found a guy going all the way to Saint John's.―K9f100

There does not seem to be any getting around the (currently $40.70) per passenger fare for the ferry to Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland. There is sometimes a ferry direct to Argentia (much closer to St John's than Port Aux Basques) but it is much more expensive.I found the North Sydney ferry terminal and ferry itself to be surprisingly difficult places to hitch for an onward ride to St John's but they are still probably your best shot. People may be reluctant to commit to taking you for the whole 9+ hour drive to St John's, so you might be better off aiming for some closer point like Deer Lake.
