Heading to lion’s head through Barrie, left from downtown Toronto. Literally the easiest way to get out of the city I have been taken il less than two minutes to Barrie instantly

Going west from Toronto.
There's a nice straigth place to stop on the ramp to 400 highway.
To get there: get bus to brampton, hitch to Orangeville and from there to this point.

To my opinion, the best way to get there - operating year round, cheap, frequent: take the ttc bus 165D from Wilson subway to its last stop, Hwy 400 Car Pool Lot. Buses run Mon-Sat from 5.43am - 24 to 30 mins interval, last bus at 9.51pm. If You will not get a ride north, the last bus 165D back to Toronto runs at 10.54pm. Sunday: they run from 8.50am till 8.10pm - every 32-40 minutes. You can use a free transfer from the subway, and You are supposed to pay extra $0.35 since You travel past the city border. This last stop is only a FEW METERS from the ramp! THe ramp is in a good place because it is out of the city, yet there is enough traffic on it. This seems to be the best spot to hitch north/transcanada from Toronto.

Not much space for people to stop, but I waited about 5 minutes there on a Sunday morning with an "Ottawa" sign and got a ride past Kingston.

This is very close to Canada's Wonderland. At the gates to the park they throw out insane amounts of food from anyone trying to enter the park gates with their own food. Shameful practice, but possibly a goldmine for dumpster diving? Anyone know? Leave a comment. I will check it out myself in August.

The guy who picked me up did not know what hitchhiking was, I had to explain. He took me to Ajax out of desire to help, telling me that the neighborhood is only ethnic people and that they dont tend to "get" what I was doing. The driver was from Sri Lanka. I don't even think my explanation made sense for him in the end.

Plenty of space to stop and passing on ramp, but nobody seemed to care, so it seems like it's mostly metropolitain traffic.

There is not even a sign prohibiting to go on the on-ramp here! So it is technically legal contrary to all other on-ramps in the area!

Flat surface with enough land for cars to pull off. A nearby field close-by to nap, hide of stash things + close to a Walmart. This is straight a few minutes from the Vaughan station, the northmost station to leave the city. Easiest so far!

Waited 1.5 hours for pickup to Toronto, lots of cops tho, but didn't give us any trouble
Good traffic, and plenty of space to pull over
