Not the greatest spot, but has a lot of traffic turning to the highway. You can take the metro nearby here and then a bus or ride the rental bicycle here like I did. I had a man stop before and he was going to the south from Shanghai, but I wanted to head north. Then half an hour later a man stopped and invited me to have dinner with his shipyard friend near Nantong (南通市). So I accepted and ended up staying with them for two days and also exploring a shipyard with them there. Only thing that I found weird was that the driver lied to his other coworker that I'm a daughter of his foreign boss and never told his wife that he picked up a hitchhiker. And he also told me that at first he thought I was Chinese, as I was all covered up from the sun, but once he got closer he stopped only because he saw I was a foreigner and then he of course wanted to pick me up straight away. Otherwise it was a nice two days with those shipyard men, because both of them could also speak English due to their work. But it was also a big food coma with them, as three times a day they always wanted to order too much food...―Anettlee17

It is a huge service station, lots of cars. I would even say a bit overwhelming, but then I suggest looking at the number plates, and maybe that will help to choose the cars to ask etc. A young couple I approached was glad to take us to the suburbs of Shanghai, where we could take literally the last metro of the day to the city centre.―Anettlee17

Toll Gate - good spot for rides West towards Suzhou and Nanjing. Take Metro no. 11 to station "Anping" (7 CNY). Walk 20 minutes south along Moyu S Road to a tollgate of expressway G2. It's not the busiest toll gate though - waiting time for a car going to Suzhou: 45 minutes.―Anonymous
