Best place in Ii i reckon. For north at least. Only one lane forward and there is lights in front of the bus stop so the cars go slow (no roof on the stop though). There are many people from Oulu going to Tornio at all times of the year but idk about how good it would be at night. This is also in the Bible belt of Finland so there is higher likelihood of running into a gooder person who picks you up. Also many Norwegian tourists in the summer who could take you straight to kilpisjärvi or norway

Unless the weather is unbearable I wouldn't suggest asking people inside if you're going north since only southeners stop here. I caught me a ride to the shell 2km north and got a ride instantly. Honestly even with bad weather it's better on the bus stop

People going out of work. Find a guy to go north of Oulu. Lot of locals but worked for me

Bus information is outdated. 50 doesn't exist any more, you have to take bus 23 now.

This is a good place to hitchhike towards Kemie and Rovaniemi, I got here a ride within 15 minutes to the turn towards Rovaniemi.

I would consider taking the bus no. 50 from Oulu to here if you want to hitch north. The ride costs ca. 10e and lasts 1 hour. From here (or other stops in the town of Ii) you are sure to catch a ride.

A bus stop. A shell petrol station also nearby. Many trucks stop there.

A bus stop with a lot of cars going to Kemi, and some trucks in the shell station

Great spot to get more to the north. There is a high traffic and only one main road. Lot of cars from Sweden. We got a ride in less than 5 minutes all the way to Rovaniemi. Cars were driving slowly as there was a speed radar.

Early bird caught an enormous worm, got a ride not to Tornio or Haparanda but to GÄVLE 2 hours north of STOCKHOLM. Traffic lights just before this bus stop and a Shell gas station aswell. There is a bus from Oulu that stops at this bus station, highly recommend. A local suggested skipping Kemi and taking a ride all the way to Tornio, because many travel to Ikea Haparanda with an empty car and Kemi is nit very friendly for hitchhiking.

Very good spot, high traffic but it's better to write nearest city than Rovaniemi or North.

Waited here for 60 minutes around noon on a workday and only found a very short ride (15 km or so) with a delivery driver. Very few people go onto the highway from here.
I'd recommend going straight to Ii with the bus (zones A-C) and hitchhiking from there.

Best spot to catch all the traffic from Rovaniemi to the South. There's space to stop the car on the side of the road even though there is no bus stop. Cars are driving by slowly because there is a traffic light just before. An okay walking distance from the centre.

Bus stop. Clear view for the cars.

Really low traffic but still managed to get a ride to Li

Technically this should be a good spot... But I stood there for 90 minutes without finding a ride and ended up taking a bus (23 line) to Ii, in the hopes of finding a ride from there. If your planning to go to Sweden from Oulu, I'd recommend going to Ii straight away (A-C zones). Don't waste your time.

Towards north, decent amount of traffic, got a car here immediately, however spot seemed uncomfortable for drivers, so wouldn't recommend it fully, wait time more likely of 30+ minutes otherwise
