couldn't agree more with the review below. this really sucked towards switzerland, most ppl were going east to the french alps. ended up taking a lift to the tolls 5km further and had much better luck there.it is however a useful stop to ask for a big piece of cardboard to make a sign for the toll, the bigger the better - staff kindly helped out.

From Lyon to Geneva. Gas Station Valleiry: Last spot to get dropped off before the huge intersections (Annemasse, Chambery/Milan) if your driver does not go to Geneva. I cought the wrong day but think it should be ok to find a lift from there. try the earlier gas station if possible.Avoid week-ends because everybody is going to the french alps only which you dont want to!
However:
This spot might be really good for going south.
Not sure if you can get there by foot, you must find out, if yes, theres the possibility to catch the train to St-Julien and from there cross Geneva by public transport.

Le spot a l'air bon pour rester en France mais ça fait 2 fois que je m'y arrête et je ne l'aime toujours pas. J'ai attendu 2h la première fois, et la deuxième fois, au bout de 20min j'ai compris que ça allait être la même. A tout celleux qui s'arrêtent ici, je recommende de demander à n'importe qui de vous emmener au péage à 1 ou 2km plus loin. La bas, avec un grand panneau (grand, j'insiste), j'ai attendu à peine 5 min.―jurichezzbmx

Better to wait there than at the gas station before. It's actually a medium size toll but bigger the sign better it is. I used this spot to go to Sallanches and it worked well. It was winter time and belgian girls went to a ski resort near by―jurichezzbmx
