There is a lot of traffic, but the traffic light is really fast. The people are not very nice and don’t easily give rides to strangers. However, some people are kind and might offer you a lift."

You can take a bus and like 20 minutes walking and you are there. Best way to go directly to Roun or Caen

Had a sign "Paris". It's not a huge service station but there's some traffic.

good spot for paris, great spot for north east in the summer. many cars were full, loads of benelux and german license plates from homecoming holiday go-ers, if you are looking for a ride to paris, better to hunt down plates with 75 than to stand at the entrance to the petrol station. if talking to french drivers ask for direction paris as opposed to paris itself, they might be more likely to give a ride. we saw other hitchers here but they ignored us.

If you want to get on the A13 towards Normandie this is the only good spot. Stand on the sidewalk and hold a sign saying A13. Cars can stop on the right lane or drive off the road next to the parking garage.

Near Metro stop Porte d'Auteuil. Hitch straight here to go towards Normandie (don't go into tunnel). There is a 'no pedestrians' sign to stand under :)

Il paraît qu'il est meilleur que la porte d'Auteuil pour la Normandie. A essayer.
I Heard it's a better spot than Porte d'Auteuil for Normandie. To try.

not so much space, but some cars dare to stop. got a little lift to la celle saint cloud, and from there a lift to rouen. might have been a lucky combination.

We were a couple trying to go to Normandy on a Saturday afternoon. A hitchhiker was there already and probably got a lift, didn't work for us though, we gave up after something like 2 hours. However at some point we were offered a lift to "Les Mureaux" which is actually good because it's after the 1st gas station. Not so easy for cars to stop (only one stopped). Maybe better to have a sign with A13 or gas station symbol than Rouen or Normandy.

good place compared to others in paris, but hard for cars to stop because of the trafic. you can also try a little bit further, at the second spot

Me and a friend with HUGE packs because we are bringing our instruments were worried about getting a ride due to the size. I speak very very little french so I was also worried. We took the RER to poissy, slept on near the cathedral outside, the police were very nice and didnt bother us, we woke up the next day grabbed some old bread for free and took the bus to auberge. At the bus stop you take your first right (if your walking in the direction you were coming from. Set up at the rest staition, my friend held a sign and I walked up to people and asked if they were going west on 13, the second person I asked said sure thing. He was heading towards Rouen but he dropped us off at a nice rest area where he even found a ride for us because our french was poor. Really good spot to hitch from.

Around 30 minutes wait on a Wednesday evening (4:30 pm).

The traffic jam of the peak hour probably made me wait longer than usual as it puts people in a bad mood.
On the other hand it allowed me to talk to drivers while they were waiting for the traffic lights to turn green.
And that's how I got a ride to Vierzon.

I had a big back pack with me and 2 card boards. One with a "next gas station symbol", and the other with Orléans.

Good spot, very easy accessible by metro. Direct ride to Bordeaux! Waited an hour though and it was the first car that made a stop.

no long wait from this good spot. An excellent option when getting south or west. Take care, don't take a car which doesn't go to the saint arnoult peage at least, if you don't wat your trip becoming harder !

indeed, sometimes it happens that you have to wait for one hour and a half, I use it a lot (maybe thirty times or more), sometimes it was a great succes, sometimes, can't know why, it was harder. Still a good option !
