There's decent space after the roundabout for cars to stop, later the road becomes a highway. Alternative route if you want to get past Mulhouse towards Besançon.

Got a lift from the police after they were worried for our saftey. One of us was in a wheelchair so there is that. perhaps not as good as it was, or perhaps more of an us problem. we got to go down the moterway with the blue lights on so that was fun!

There's a big billboard near the exit where you can stand in the shade after 13:00 (once the sun has moved).

Lots of people going to Switzerland. Quite a few to France, too.

IF YOU HAVE TO WALK HERE: don't bother climbing the fence, the gate at the workers parking is open (and if not there's an easy climbable wall next to it)

didn't spend much time here, got a ride with to german grandpa hikers

The parking lot is a barren wasteland for trucks only. The access road has a narrow side strip where cars can stop, but there's only industrial areas and tiny villages nearby, so if you travel on sunday like me, there are no cars at all.
I tried standing behind the guard rail of the deceleration lane, but gave up after 2 hours and walked to the train station.

Bad spot BUT was so lucky. The lady dropped us here then immediately a car stopped in front of us to ask if we had a problem. Thierry was a Christian that genuinely wanted to help so he brought us on the next gas station just for us. He honestly saved the day.

Good spot to go west but we wanted to go backward to Basel and it didn't work, nobody went the other side. So we took a ride to the péage si we can change side. Thanks Baptiste.

Stood with Lyon sign at the exit of the car area. First car stopped to Besançon, I took it. Accessed the gas station from behind as my previous driver didn't want to pay toll (there is one couple km before the station).

While on a pit stop on my way to Basel, scared of not being able to cross to France, decided to ask the two (french) cars next to me if they would give me a ride. One did to Mulhouse. This gas station did seem to have more French cars than others, so probably good for that (also lots of Swiss). Solo female.
