the last rest stop before Calais ! lots of traffic going to the ferry, UK cars, etc. We were 3 people, so not many had space for us. eventually, we took a car just to Calais terminal to buy a foot passenger ticket for £30. if it was earlier in the day, and we waited longer, we might have found people going onto the ferry.

we 3 were trying to get to Calais/Dover. a very nice person from Lille took us to this station from the A1. it was much better than the A1 as all traffic was going the right direction. we met lots of people who were going to England via the ferry. eventually, we were offered a lift onwards to Aire de St Hilaire Cottes, the last fuel stop before the Calais ferry, so we took it.

traffic is not crazy, but this is still my pick of choice to get to england from france. i've had varying luck ranging from rides in 2h to, this time, getting there at 18:30 and only getting a lift at 10:00, with only 4h spent sleeping. i strongly recommend asking around, maybe with a sign.
not huge amounts of traffic but very solid proportion of UK cars (seasonally dependent). i've found that many english cars can be downright mean and are often full, but don't get discouraged! there are also some nice ones worth waiting for.
easy enough to give up and go to calais if you're in a rush.
indoor bits close at 22:00 but i believe the one opposite stays open.
someone called the cops and staff lady vouched for me so they apologised and left me alone

French/English question

* French : Quelqun a déjà essayé cette aire pour trouver un conducteur qui traverse la mer pour aller en angleterre?

* English : Did anybody ever try this service station to get a ride accross the sea and directly to the UK?

First service station after Calais. To go South. I got stuck there a Saturday evening and had to spend the night in my tent. Not many cars stopping at this service station and they were quite full. The staff is very very nice though.

We 2 ppl waited an hour with luggage and we got a ride to Calais. The cars can stop very well on the side.

[did this back in December 2024]
Hitchhiked with my bike cause I was tired and couldn’t keep going. I think this isn’t a good spot, someone living at this spot saw me and we became friends, so one of his friends agreed to help me get to Lille with my bike
