Excellent spot pour aller vers le sud. Aire très accessible en rer D depuis Paris. Particulièrement intéressant pour la Bourgogne et Lyon

We walked here from Macon, because we decided that it will be easier to hitchhike here since the highway wasnt ideal and we wanted to get to a small village between Lyon and Macon. Easy to hichhike here, would recommend if you have some specific place between Lyon and Macon. You will most probably only get rides one city away, so we took multiple rides to get to our destination

I must say we got so lucky on this one, there is place to stop for cars, but there is no traffic at all, only 5 cars passed in 30 minutes, we tried to hitchhike on the main road for a while, but the cars go way to fast and there is no place to stop, luckily one lady saw us hitchhiking on the main road and decided to head back for us at the next exit and it turns out she is going to the exact same place we wanted to go to.

Direction Lyon

Excellent place. Hitch from Macon to the south (Zone Industrielle). This is the Péage of the autoroute A6

The first day of summer holidays all the people come to the South. There were two cars stopping in the two hours time but both were only locals. Direction Geneva seemed hopeless.

Lots of people going to Lyon. Many national tourists with full cars during sommer time. We wanted to get to Montpellier and decided in the end to take the only ride we got to Grenoble.

We got out here after 650 km (from the Netherlands) in one ride and decided it would be good to stretch our legs and have a short picknick before continuing. Shortly before we would have tried to catch a lift we were offered one to Lyon. Very nice!

Waited for almost 8 or 9 hours trying to go East to Geneva. Hopeless! Ended up going to Lyon in one ride. Many people going South.

Dropped here (3PM) by a guy who picked me back in Paris, I was trying to reach Grenoble and only did so because of luck. Someone picked me at 6PM, I was about to lose hope and look for a spot to spend the night when my saviour drove me to destination.
Only 3 people offered to take me, but all were going to Lyon.

We got a lift on Sunday morning after half an hour. It was a girl from northern France though, going for a summer camp (pure randomness).

Used as an escape route from the motorway. A guy from the motorway petrol station picked us up and brought to Macon A40 exit.

Within 1h 30min waiting 6-7 cars stopped, all of them only local. It was Saturday evening though which might be the problem.

Circumstances: We were 3 people heading to Paris, but we were OK with splitting up. Strategy: Asking directly at the tollbooth, standing in front of the parking space with a sign, standing at the roundabout with a sign.

Findings: A lot of traffic on a Sunday, but nearly everybody (>80%) was going south. Impossible to get a ride. Waited 5 hours and then gave up. Also discovered a warning written on the concrete saying "hitchhiking spot of death"...

Probably good if you want to get to Lyon. If going to Paris, take the bus (nr. 7) from Mâcon main train station to Chalon-sur-Saône (1.50 EUR) and try highway entry Chalon-Nord. We had a good experience there. Mâcon-Nord or -Centre might also work better.
