Actually we tried one day before to get a ride but it was already too late i guess, so we stayed the for the night. The riverside in villefranche is recommended to camp wild.(:In the morning we waited about 30 min to get a ride. But the person just brought us to a village nearby. But it is a very good spot. There is a lot of space and its comfortable to wait there.

Its a good spot. You can talk to the resting truckers and see if they'll give you a lift. Almost all traffic is french, and they dont seem to love hitchhikers. We managed to get picked up by a nice french man though.―Gdapain

Had a sign with "A31/Nancy" written on it and I waited at the gas station entrance and the nearby traffic light for an hour before giving up and taking a flixbus (the stop is 30 min walk northward, in the university citadel). There was a lot of traffic but the gas station was deserted and everyone who stopped there were workers from local businesses―BepisFresh

Direction Besançon, Mulhouse, Basel, Germany (Freiburg)Good place at this Péage, if someone can get you there at least. If the driver don't go through the Péage onto the highway, you can access the Péage by a short walk on a path situated on the south side. Then there is a fence, but it is jumpable near the Péage as some people already got here this way

Dir south toward Lyon...That is definitly not a good spot :
Cars go too fast, it's polluted, very noisy, it is dangerous, you are not seen cause people are more focus on accelerating on this ramp to the highway...
I was droped here. After one hour, a kind man offered me a ride to the Péage and told me that it was really not a good spot to reach the A6...
