did not feel very nice bcs you can only hop in as the drivers pay at the toll, there is no rest area. also clearly illegal.
this also means drivers might feel like they need to help you, so good to get ahead to a better spot not far. hitch at the ticket booths where they have to lower their window :) avoid the automatic gates where cars can just drive through.
there is a big highway security building right next to it that seemed inactive and did not bother me even though i lingered for a while before thumbing.
also, there is a pedestrian underpass connecting the toll gates so you don't need to actually walk across the motorway if it's really busy.

If you go there by foot, you will have to walk on the side of the road and sometimes over a meadow. Took quite long for a car to stop and it only took me to Château-Thierry, not Paris. The spot itself is very good, but non of the cars stopped that day.

Good spot reachable by foot, but the traffic is little. There is a German police station on the other side of the road, so a lot of lorry drivers won't take you with them (it's illegal for them). Waited a long time, but finally somebody took me to Reims in one go.

Not too many cars at this hour but it's ok, someone took us (we were 2) 30 minutes later to Thionville (we had a sign for Metz and Luxembourg).

A bit long to get here but simple (just RER to Bussy St George and just walk, better than going to Vémars).
A kind worker took us (we were 2) to the station near the end.
We found an old couple who took us to Reims, good people.
Good place to go east, I also want to try if by I can go to Brussel easier from Paris by starting here compared to Vémars maybe.

Waited around an hour with a sign that said Germany, changed it to Reims and got a ride in 45 minutes. It was raining which made the wait unpleasant and long.

You have to walk here along the Avenue de Champagne from Rue de Louvois, then just stand next to the "no pedestrians" sign, there is enough space for cars to pull over and pick you up.
We waited here as 2 guys with a sign for Metz and got a ride from a guy going to Strasbourg who initially said he could drop us off at the Aire near Metz but ultimately decided to drop us off near the city center.

Peage in the east of city. Fantastic. Also big restaurant/service station not too far away. Check out hitchwiki entry.

Good to wait by car park. DO NOT GET RIDE TO NEXT SERVICE STATION, TERRIBLE, BAD.

Not the best spot because there is not so many place for cars to stop, and it's in a blind corner. anyway, I catched a ride to paris in less than 10 minutes. The good thing is that it's so close to the city center!

> A4 Metz Strasbourg Luxembourg Germany

good point if you are along A4 and your driver goes in Reims, let him/her stop here.

We were waiting for 2 hours on Tuesday midday and no traffic in there - one car in 5 minutes.
