Tried to go south to Dijon, but most cars went west or even North/East, because there is a bridge to the other side of the highway wich quite a few people take. Eventually I had to take a ride into a slidely different direction than planned. But it tourned out very nice!

Interesting spot. The service station is quite dead. But it is possible (and also legal I think) to stand next to the Autobahn, since they are going relatively slow there. There is also space for the cars to stop but no one did. Eventually I got a Truck driver from the Service Station.

Big area where people stop to eat and take gaz. I was trying to go to Strasbourg, but lot of people were going south, and the one going around Mulhouse/Strasbourg were already full of people&package.
I tried both sides of the area, on the left asking trucks conductors but they weren't allowed to take hitchhiker's ; and I also went on the right side near the gas station and shop, to ask directly people. I waited 2 hours and eventually found a nice couple that took me to Toul, near Nancy. Not really my way but I took the train from Toul to Strasbourg!

Even in the Evening with less light it was super fast. Not too much cars thought. I got two cars in 10 mins. There's a bit of space for parking after the roundabout but not to much. The Person took me to the N4.

best deal in Nancy to head south or to Paris. Did it a hundred times. There are plenty of places to stop and people see you from far away because it's a straight line. From the city center, take the bus n°4 to reach Laxou

If you go to south, never stop at the first gazstation, very closed from Touls. I was stuck there 5 hours because everbody continued straight to Reims/Paris. People from north, going to south never never stop at this fuelstation.

I waited here to go to Dijon and an other time to Troyes. The spot is good but I waited for a long time each time

I stood here with my "Paris"-sign for less than ten minutes until a transporter stopped for me that went directly to Paris!

Another car had stopped before but wasn't going very far. I think this is a perfect spot, cars can pull over very safely!

I stood here several times with my sign saying 'Dijon' and I waited about 45 minutes.
I had the impression that most people go West rather that South.
If somebody takes you make sure he takes you at least to the next gasstation (there is one near Neufchateau).

Good spot as it have parking spot and is just before a traffic light. However may not be the best for going to Paris as this direction might be used by driver who will stick to national road 4. I waited 3h with a "Paris" sign, long wait but it was worth it as I had a direct ride to Paris. People can offer you to go intermediate destination (like Toul). Before accepting this, be sure that you're driver will drop you on a good spot as the RN4 is often a double track, high speed road.
