Many locals, few people going to Germany at this time (Monday at 16:30)

I wanted to go to Heidelberg. It was already dark and it was Saturday... A group of several polish truck drivers were sleeping there until Monday, going back to Poland. Asked around for about 1.5 hours, almost no traffic, so I decided to settle for a ride to Karlsruhe and catching a train to Heidelberg. The spot should be good, but my timing and luck were bad.

Wouldn’t recommend this place not a lot of traffic. Been there a couple of times and the last time I left by train to the next gas station, just 20min by train. Way better place

Ask around, you will definitely find somebody going in your direction.

Not really a good spot, but mutch better than Aral gas station or standard hitching. Worked better here than traditional hitch, people stop on the crossroads.

Not a great spot, good enough to go to Strasbourg. Not much traffic but enough people go to the gas station.

Asking around should work, in my case I was pretty unlucky with the weather and full cars. Eventually decided to sign at the on-ramp and was got a ride to Heidelberg within five minutes.

Gonna go against consensus here. Almost all cars are local traffic and the ones that aren’t are usually going to Offenburg. I waited close to three hours with my sign saying Karlsruhe-Heidelberg before a French guy I talked to at the station took me to the autobahn.

Found a trucker to take me east onto the A8 within 15 minutes.
The ride itself wasn't great as he took a 45 min detour to get some fuel and then got stuck in a traffic jam for 2 hours, but in the end we got to Sindelfinger Wald.

If you can avoid this spot, do it. Many people stay in the vicinity.
That said, there's lots of space to pull over at the bus stop, and you'll find somebody eventually.

not an excellent place but it's fine if you wanna leave Strasbourg in direction of Germany (u can take a quick and cheap train from STBG to Appenweier, then walk about 25min. to the gas station)

Got offered lifts to Karlsruhe, Frankfurt and Nürnberg within 30 mins. Got a lift to Pforzheim direction Stuttgart after one hour. Friday morning in June. Agree with Mrm1985, if you are coming from south and wanna go to Stuttgart and your driver drives north: This is the place to get off.
