I think location is generally good, especially going south (I was going East). Lots of traffic on a Wednesday at 4:00 pm. I was standing in the bus lane near traffic. The bus comes infrequently when I was there so it should be fine, just be careful since traffic is going fast. Giving it 3 stars because my experience went a bit rough. First hour had a sign that said “Ost” (East) and looked like a mess, it didn’t work. Changed my sign to “A3 Wurzberg” and cleaned up a bit, had 3 cars stopped and finally had one take me to a service station (better loco for going east).―Wiisportzs

A car stopped almost instantly, but I felt pretty lucky. I also slept close to this spot and can only recommend it. It's only 2–3 km to a nice area where you can find a place to pitch a tent. There are two ponds to the south; I took a swim in the southern one.―Larixium

I stood there for almost an hour with a sign saying Köln and Essen on Monday at 11. many cars passed by but the vibe was not great. Frankfurt is a banker city and the people gave me weird looks. However one van stopped after 20 minutes, they were going to Hannover though. After a while a guy driving to Bochum (city right next to Essen) took me along and we had a great ride :)―Arenwithane

It was getting dark so I felt like my chances were getting pretty low. Quite some people ignored me when I came up to them, the vibe of the place doesn’t really help being there with a cardboard. First day noone going south, only Frankfurt or Frankfurt airport. Next day we had a sign saying A5 SOUTH wich was very helpful and got picked up in 20-30 minutes, and drove close to Landau. My new technique strikes again! (Monday morning solo female). Sign in hand (Freiburg, maybe Basel would have been better sign though), walking around looking lost, for a place to hitch, immediately got offered a ride to Basel. Lots of Swiss cars, some southern German, not many French.―friki
