Looks like a good spot to get out of the city. The highway entrances have no space for cars to stop, but here there is space next to the road. Traffic is going slow because of traffic lights. Lots of local cars. Also Köln, Düsseldorf and Neuss license plates. Somebody stopped for direction Dortmund, but not my direction. Tried with sign 'Neuss'. Took a break at the cafe around the corner for a coffee and toilet. And then with sign 'D' (Düsseldorf). Nice guy picked me up and drove to Neuss.―Splunt

Lots of holiday traffic in october. But got a lift to Wuppertal very quick by asking around the restaurant.Also waited more than an hour before here for a further lift in direction Osnabrück.

Nice spot to get out of Duisburg towards the Netherlands, but I must say it was probably more about luck than a good spot. There's no shadow to stand in during summer btw, I got quite a sizzle on my neck after that half hour. The driver was really nice though, drove me all the way past Venlo, when he didn't even plan to cross into the Netherlands at all, and even bought me a coke and gave me some cardboard for a new sign―B5Scheuert

Very nice spot. Got there on a sunday morning at 7:30, it looked extremely empty, but after 30mins at the on-ramp with a "HANNOVER WEST" sign a nice man stopped trying to take me to Helmstedt, but right as I was putting my stuff into his backseat, another car stopped after seeing my sign, saying they'll take me to Duisburg. Obviously I took that offer. Very nice people, even the ones that didn't take me. Very nice experience for my very first time hitchhiking―B5Scheuert

Good spot! I was asking around for an hour and in the end met a couple from the Netherlands while filling up my water. The took me all the way where I needed to go. I spent 6 hours travelling with them. Really perfect.I asked at the parking lot at the end, not at the gas station.

I stood there for almost an hour with a sign saying Köln and Essen on Monday at 11. many cars passed by but the vibe was not great. Frankfurt is a banker city and the people gave me weird looks. However one van stopped after 20 minutes, they were going to Hannover though. After a while a guy driving to Bochum (city right next to Essen) took me along and we had a great ride :)―Arenwithane

Very good spot to get out of Oberhausen onto A3 in the direction of Arnhem. There's a traffic light you can stand next to with a sign. Mine was super improvised and it still worked in like 5 minutes. Not super far but to Hünxe which I knew to be a good spot to continue. Was pretty late, so I might have been lucky with Feierabend traffic―thebeekeeper
