Perfect spot for going further south, almost too easy, just wave a sign and ask everyone you see―Frederik

I wanted to go to Heidelberg. It was already dark and it was Saturday... A group of several polish truck drivers were sleeping there until Monday, going back to Poland. Asked around for about 1.5 hours, almost no traffic, so I decided to settle for a ride to Karlsruhe and catching a train to Heidelberg. The spot should be good, but my timing and luck were bad.―Anonymous

Wouldn’t recommend this place not a lot of traffic. Been there a couple of times and the last time I left by train to the next gas station, just 20min by train. Way better place―Anonymous

While on a pit stop on my way to Basel, scared of not being able to cross to France, decided to ask the two (french) cars next to me if they would give me a ride. One did to Mulhouse. This gas station did seem to have more French cars than others, so probably good for that (also lots of Swiss). Solo female.―Anonymous

My new technique strikes again! (Monday morning solo female). Sign in hand (Freiburg, maybe Basel would have been better sign though), walking around looking lost, for a place to hitch, immediately got offered a ride to Basel. Lots of Swiss cars, some southern German, not many French.―Anonymous

Not much place to stop, but its managable, perhaps a gas station 200m before this spot is better, but this works just fine―Anonymous

Asking around should work, in my case I was pretty unlucky with the weather and full cars. Eventually decided to sign at the on-ramp and was got a ride to Heidelberg within five minutes.―Anonymous

Gonna go against consensus here. Almost all cars are local traffic and the ones that aren’t are usually going to Offenburg. I waited close to three hours with my sign saying Karlsruhe-Heidelberg before a French guy I talked to at the station took me to the autobahn.―Anonymous

Found a trucker to take me east onto the A8 within 15 minutes. The ride itself wasn't great as he took a 45 min detour to get some fuel and then got stuck in a traffic jam for 2 hours, but in the end we got to Sindelfinger Wald.

If you can avoid this spot, do it. Many people stay in the vicinity. That said, there's lots of space to pull over at the bus stop, and you'll find somebody eventually.
