Wanted to get on to A61. Tried it during rush hour. There are some people who take that route every day, for example to Koblenz. Not perfect to stop for a car.―Anonymous

A lot of people going to Frankfurt, also you can cross the highway via a bridge and go north―Anonymous

There are a lot of trucks unloading here in the morning - I just asked the drivers and the third one took me to the next gasstation on the highway. Probably only works in the mornings though―Anonymous

Really hard to get anywhere else than the airport - finally someone took me to St Augustine from where I caught a hitch onto the highway―Anonymous

The route here is quite complicated (we took a train and two buses, unsure which ticket to buy and then we had to go 35 minutes). There are a lot of trucks and a few cars. We only just arrived, and someone took us to Erfurt. We were traveling as two people. It's a good place to travel east.―Anonymous

Stood at the end with a sign, a lot of cars park near the end so you can ask around and use the sign or a thumb at the same time. After 30 minutes a turkish guy took me to a gas station after Frankfurt. Pretty good and lots of traffic.―stepanfoj

I stood at the roundabout on the end. There was a lot of traffic. Had a sign saying Köln. Then a guy took me past it to a station in the direction of Frankfurt. Good spot. You can get here by bus from Aachen very easily, the bus station is right next to the station.―stepanfoj

Not too many cars, but lucky to get a ride to the next gas station as that guy was heading to Essen.―Anonymous

I waited only a few minutes, there was much traffic. Only problem: There is a fence around the station, so maybe you have to climb. But that’s no big deal.To come here take the train “RB 25†from the cologne main station in the direction “Marienheide†or “Overath†for 3,20 €. Leave at “Stümpen†and turn right and go up to the “Kiefernweg†and turn right. Follow the street that is later called “Dammelsfurther Weg†up to the “Pestalozziweg†for maybe 500 meters and turn right. Now you pass the Autobahn and turn right again in the “Plantageâ€. Follow this way a few hundred meters through the forest and you will see a service station on the right side. Maybe you have to climb a fence. Now you are on the a station without oil station but much traffic. Easy to get a ride here. Totally it takes approximately 40 minutes from the cologne main station. In my experience this is the best possibility to leave cologne.
