Hitched from the Eastbound shell. Took only a short time for a lift to Köln. Our driver was kind enough to drop us at the front door of our friends house

Most people were going to Paris, but I got extremely lucky and very soon found a couple taking me all the way to Düsseldorf, Germany!
I arrived there when it was already dark so it was a plus that you can technically reach Orleans by public transport if you don’t have a tent nor want to spend the night outside. Also there is probably more traffic there in summer or during the day with people going further than Paris

I started hitchhiking pretty early so there were only few cars. After an hour I started asking drivers and got ride to duseldorf with Polish driver (being polish probably helped me a lot with that)

The waiting time was over two hours because many cars were full, but I managed to get a 150 km ride to an Osnabrück gas station.

Having wasted a whole day in the Ruhrpot I ended up taking the bus to Ohligers Heide and got a ride to Frankfurt in 10 minutes.

With sign "A3 süd". Only got some offers to Düsseldorf. Moved to the onramp after 69mins, but had the same result there. If you get stuck here your best option is public transport to the next Raststätte.

Hünxe. Sometimes you get a ride to Ohligers Heide in 30 minutes, sometimes you wait 3 hours before accepting a ride into the HH'ers hell that is Ruhrpot. Today was the latter. Don't be like me. It's (at least) Ohligers Heide or nothing.

First time hitchhiking, just said 'Goodmorning' and eventually someone understood the sign to Hamburg-Münster. They actually went to Bielefeld, but argued it would work just as well going to Hamburg.

Apparently, there was a place for cars to stay just behind here. German van that went to a festival 'Harmony of Hardore' nearby my town just left going home. Can't say if the spot truly works, Netherlands generally seems difficult to take off.

There were two of us hitchhiking and we got a lift here after a 10-minute wait. Perfect spot before joining the A2 motorway

Extremely lucky lady came up to us as we were making our sign. I can see it not being bad. Not too much traffic though

Had a good interaction with the staff but maybe we got lucky. Got a lift with a young Dutch guy going to cologne. Overall was pretty good for us

*The employees don't like hitchhikers here. So don't stand right in front the store as a tip.* Nevertheless, we asked about 50+ cars in 50 minutes maybe even more. Many people just barely going over the border (like Kleve or 's-Heerenberg, Netherlands) or the cars are already full with people. Right as we got told by the employees to stop asking people for a ride. We just got one 2 minutes before al the way to the center of Köln. 140km/90 minute ride. Another group of friends got at this shell at the same time as us and they got a ride all the way to Dusseldorf Airport in 3 minutes of being there. Unfortunately they didn't have room for 4 people, only 3. So that is why we had to wait for 50 additional minutes (we got to Köln earlier though). Many Hitchhikers come here do, just took us a lot of time to get a good ride. It's about luck here!!

Great spot if you're hitchhiking from Cologne to the Netherlands. You can get here from Nievenheim train station and bus WE2. After that it's just a 15 minute walk to the station.
If you look on Google satellite, you will spot a small trail after the bridge over the highway. It is traversable but I wouldn't recommend it as it leads through hunting grounds that are private property. Better to take the long way around. Either way, the service station is accessible on foot through a whole in the fence or on the small road.

Waited for 5 minutes, then found a friendly man and his girlfriend who took me one service station further to Geismühle. There was low traffic on Saturday, but I got lucky and found somebody quickly.
