There is little traffic, (we were here on monday at 4pm), but it is worth the wait. People are going to Leipzig, Hanover or somewhere further west.

Good spot, we think. It seems to be a regular spot for hitchhikers heading south/southwest/west. We stood by the western on-ramp to the autobahn. Not a lot of traffic, but we also arrived late in the day. P.S. There’s a shower: think about using it you bum!

We were two guys hitchhiking late in the afternoon/evening. We were signaling to go for Leipzig/Magdeburg. The hour was late in the day, so when a driver offered us a ride to Leipzig we accepted. In hindsight, we should probably have headed straight west towards Magdeburg/Hannover, since it was difficult to plan the route after stopping on the road to, or in, Leipzig. We were heading northwest after Leipzig towards Göttingen/Kassel via the A38. We did however get onto the A38 by sheer luck, the driver’s poor sense of direction and him being a bit creepy (esoteric guy that let us lie in the back of his van). Stay safe out there folks.

Two guys hitchhiking in the afternoon. We were picked up by a local heading to Michendorf. We were visible and there’s room for the drivers to stop, but we hiked to this spot from Potsdam and travelling along the road the amount of cars passing by would vary.

Two guys hitchhiking. We hitchhiked here from Wannsee to Potsdam intending to head southwest, either to Leipzig or Magdeburg. We hiked from here since there was construction at the on ramp to the autobahn in Nikolasse. We were picked up quite quickly and there’s a busstop + handicapparking where the drivers can pick you up.

Please note that if you just want to get to Potsdam you can take the S-bahn from Berlin instead.

Quite a lot of full cars with holiday-goers, but enough traffic atleast! Got a lift that went close to Berlin after around half an hour. A few people were also going North.

Big station, many cars standing on the parking lot, few cars going. People going either to Berlin or North, truck drivers either somewhere local or in pairs (so no place for another person). After two hours of standing with a sign at the exit I went back to talk to people in front of the restaurant. One person who earlier said is not going my direction approached me saying they used to hitchhike and it's good if I move to am Fichtenplan, so I went with them (they were going to the airport to pick someone up)

Got a ride to Berlin fast (with a person going there to bring back a piece of big furniture). Lady at the shop spoke no English but was very helpful with getting the paper for the hitch sign (after we managed to communicate somehow)and even run after me to give me a better one after a minute. Easy spot to get to by walking half an hour from the train station, a bit uphill though

On Saturday afternoon it was basically empty, got a lucky ride with a sign "Magdeburg"

Not too many people but spot seems ok, got a ride to Berlin with a sweet Kazach guy, had a lot of fun trying to get to know what Kazachstan is like trying to communicate in a mix of poor polish english and russian

It's a great spot to go West. On a quiet Saturday morning, I got a ride all the way to NL within half an hour waiting, asking drivers and no sign.

The Michrndorf rest area is easily and quickly accessible by the multiple bus lines from Potsdam Hbf and a short walk.

This was the starting point of my first long-distance solo hitchhiking journey: from Berlin to Belgium. It couldn't have started off better than with this 589km, 6h15 ride :-)

Best spot to leave Berlin south or west.
Ask around for rides west or(!) south and respekt common etiquette if there are other hitchhikers. I hitchhiked 15 times from here (mostly alone) and it always worked.
Waiting time 5-90 min.
60% of the time you end up 50km further at a big rest stop in Michendorf where A3 and A9 splits. While there might be another 45 min waiting time awaiting you its still worth it to go there. After Michendorf it will get better!

An excellent spot for going South and West. Get her by taking the regional train into direction Dessau, and get off at Michendorf for a walk of half an hour.

Very difficult to get to Berlin city from here. Most cars were going to Poland here so possibly a good place for this destination.

Between off-ramps 18 and 17, gas station. Good place to get into Berlin.
So after coming from the East with a Polish car, this is the place to step out (if you want to go to Berlin).

We stayed here 8hours waiting for a car to Frankfurt am Oder. It's better to get to the center of Berlin and then somehow by bus or metro go to other side of Berlin in this highway.

michendorf, michendorf, if the world would be as easy to understand as 'michendorf rastanlage' everyone would love to live here! hannover, magdeburg, dortmund, leipzig, munich are to reach from this spot. you should definitely (!) wait for a driver that can take you all the way to your destination and NOT only until the next rest area (which might not be as good as 'michendorf'). if you need to reach the other side of the rastanlage (if you are only transiting berlin) you need to walk in the direction of michedorf village center (aks inside the station; they have local maps), walk underneath the 'berliner autobahnring' (200 meters east of the area) and follow the concrete way through the forest on the other side. this maneuver can take up to 30 minutes even though it looks shorter on this map. there is an ALDI as well as REWE market (open until 10 P.M.) in the center of the village of 'michendorf' (detour changing the sides of rest areas + shopping = 10 minutes).
again: my 'michendorf recommendation' is to wait until someone can take you to your day's final destination, don't just take the first car as this spot is excellent! on my personal ranking "1" (very-very poor) to "10" (excellent) i will rate this spot a "9 to 10".

Most of the cars are going to Hannover or Hamburg. Leipzig/Stuttgart direction is difficult but doable. French cars preferable.

Michendorf
Very good spot to go in direction of Hannover. Just ask the drivers on the station.

I arrived on Wednesday about 10 am and waited 50 min for a lift direction to Hannover.
